Frightmare Mansion - Chapter 8
Later that afternoon, Mom and I gave my new room a good cleaning. We found some old school pictures on a top shelf of the closet. She pulls out an old black and white graduation picture. There's a girl in them that looks a lot like me, Mom is blown away, "This must be Lila. Oh my God, this is so uncanny, her resemblance to you - you could be twins, but from different eras."
Mom looks at the back of Lila's grad picture, and reads out aloud, "Class of 1966, Lila May Winston, age 18. She graduated from River Park High School, the same High School you'll be attending, what are the odds of that."
She hands me the graduation picture. She has long hair parted in the middle, and even has the same dimples I've got! "Wow, this is a little creepy."
Mom rummages through the Lila's grade school pictures, "Look at her, she even looks like you as a small child!"
"Mom, I have to say this is really weird, I figure a lot of people can look similar as adults- but as children too?"
Then she pulls out a picture of Lila siting in a field with lots of people around her. She's wearing a reef of flowers around her head. Lots of beads around her neck. Her long hair draped over her shoulders, "Looks like Lila became a flower child."
"Flower child?"
"Some people called them hippies back then," she checks the back of the photo. "Holy Moses! Woodstock 1969. Wow she was groovy aright."
"Woodstock, I heard of that. He played there," I point to a poster of Jimmy Hendrix.
Mom looks up at the poster, "That's right, Jimmy Hendrix, Santana and many other popular bands played there. It was a dairy farm turned into a music festival. Ran for three days. Hundreds of thousands attended. If you were hip that was the place to be."
I reach out wanting to look at Lila more closely, and Mom hands me the picture, "This is really something, I'm living in her house, her room-"
"Does it bother you?"
"You know, actually I feel good about it, like this is my home, maybe like somehow I've returned home."
"Well it is your home now. I'm very happy to hear you say that. By the way, what do you want for dinner tonight?"
"Pizza!" I throw my fist up.
"I've should of known."
"You know I'm a pizza freak."
"How about we make our own, from the ground up."
"As long as it's a pizza!" I wave both arms side to side over my head.
"Okay I'm leaving you in charge, I'll run down to the market I saw down the road, I'll be right back!"
"Okay."
