Wednesday walk challenge - Gambling in the streets, Díli, East Timor
Wednesday walk challenge, by my friend @tattoodjay :))
Timorese like gambling. It's a fact. Maybe because they are Asians, gambling is also part of their culture.
They gamble, they make bets, they love cockfights, they bet money on it, always. It's part of the adrenaline.
That's why it's perfectly normal you see men and even boys carrying cockfighters like a treasure, caressing them and treating them in a way they barely do to their wives and children.
During some championships, like the Euro or World Cup, they make crazy bets, like their motorbikes, cars, or huge amounts of money, even when they don't have it. Even in the workplace. And when there are no events at all, they make a list of employees and, month after month, the following person on the list gets an extra salary paid by the remaining ones on that list. They call it Warisan, a Malayan / Indonesian expression that means inheritance.
These guys I've met on the roadside during my walk were gambling a kind of dominoes card game. I had never seen such game. And I was lucky to have the chance to capture this scene to show you!
I hope you enjoyed to know a bit more about East Timor in this walk with me.
See you next Wednesday!
Thanks, my dear Jay!
Love to all!
Steem on!

That is a healthy looking cock.
Lol, yes!
Amazing photos of a normal day in East Timor @nolasco. Lots of casinos and horse races here to gamble on. I don’t like the idea of animals fighting for entertainment. It may be illegal in Canada. I’m glad the cock is well taken care of while it lives.
True, my friend. I don't like the idea of animals fighting at all, but is a deep tradition in this culture! Thanks for your kind words <3!
You are most welcome dear Nolasco. I had to chuckle after my comment as my great grandfather was a bare knuckle fighter. Not a sport I would like to see for entertainment either. 😊
Neither do I! But we have to accept their traditions!

It all looks very serious @nolasco. There's something a bit unsettling about your photographs. Can't put my finger on what exactly. 😊
Que belas fotos, minha querida! Gosto muito...só tu! Beijinho grande carregadinho de saudades.
