in #utopian-io5 years ago (edited)

This is a weekly report of the Suggestions category. It contains basic stats, tips and interesting open source projects to start contributing. Also, I will show you the most common mistakes of this week and how to fix them.

In this post:

  • Category summary
  • Top scored contributions
  • Common mistakes and how to fix them
  • Interesting open source projects
  • Useful posts

Category summary

source

  • Week: 45 (from Nov. 1 to Nov. 8)
  • There were 2 contributions and both have been rewarded.
  • The average score was 70.5
  • There were a total of 2 unique contributors in the category.

Number of reviewed and rewarded contributions

Average score

This was a quiet week, we had only 2 contributions. What could be the reasons of this poor week? The price of STEEM had something to do with that? Maybe contributors did not understand the new bot yet and opted to not contribute until they learn how it works... Is the category hard? Are the Mods too strict? Are the guidelines not clear? Write in comments if you know the answer.
Although we had only 2 contributions, the average score was the highest of the past four weeks. As I said in my previous report, this happens because the authors of both contributions are regular contributors. They understand and follow the guidelines. So, they always get scores above the average.
This is the best time to contribute to the Suggestions Category. We have few contributions per week. Thus, you have a high probability of being rewarded. So, what are you waiting for?
Remember that upvotes are never guaranteed.

Since we did not have Staff picks this week, these are good contributions to read.

Common mistakes and how to fix them

source

The aim of this section is to show you the most common mistakes found this week. Followed by a short description and some tips/advices when applicable. Normally I split the section in two: Contributions with a score of 25 or less and Contributions with a score of 50 or less.
This week I will make an exception since the score of the submitted contributions is above 50.

1.1 - The possible solution was not described in sufficient detail

When you propose a new feature, it is great if you add a possible solution although this is not mandatory. Explain how to implement it.
You can add a pseudo code script with your possible solution and detail in which file it should be added.
If you do not know how to code, you can explain in details how this new feature should works. Where should be implemented? In which component of the app? In what position? Why is that a good position for that feature? What happens if you click on it?
Mockups are useful. Edit your images, try to follow the pattern design of the app. For example, if the app use Material Design, try to follow the rules of Material Design and add Icons which are listed in their site. Do not paste a random image/icon that you found on Google.

1.2 - The impact on the functionality and usability of the project

If the overall of your post is excellent, but your idea has little impact on the functionality and/or usability of the project, you will get a few point less. Try to suggest unique, original and useful features.

This is another great report for the Suggestions category. Well explained and quite Illustrated. Thumbs up!

The quietness in the category could be because of the current Steem token value. Not the new voting bot behavior, or other questions in the post. However, we need more contributors to this category and all I can think is ''Visibilty''.

Please note that while the CM hasn't changed the footer, I am not scoring #iamutopian posts based on the questionnaire. They have their own metric, and that will be the case until we go live with the new guidelines and new questionnaire, which will be comprehensive enough to reflect these types of posts.

Your contribution has been evaluated according to Utopian policies and guidelines, as well as a predefined set of questions pertaining to the category.

Yep, the price of STEEM is too low...
Thanks tykee

Thank you for your review, @tykee! Keep up the good work!

In the first chart does the "rewarded" bit mean the number of contributions that have been rewarded at the time of posting, or does it include contributions that could still be rewarded (are currently in the queue)?

As for the reason(s) behind the low number of contributions... I think it could be a combination of everything, haha. I don't think the suggestions category is affected by the new bot (unlike development and translations), so if people are confused about it and not contributing to the suggestions category, then that is a shame. I would actually say this is a great time to submit suggestions, because there isn't much competition, if any, so it probably means your suggestion will be upvoted in the next voting round every time.

From what I can tell (I could be completely wrong) it's pretty difficult to get a suggestions contribution "accepted" because of a multitude of reasons. It doesn't really make sense to me to be so strict with a category like this. Maybe lowering the maximum voting cap and lowering the reviewing standards will help with that, as that will allow simple, but still valuable ideas to also get submitted.

Anyway, I really hope it comes back to life, as I always appreciate hearing ideas from others about my own projects!

It include contributions that were scored in that week and could be rewarded. I will clarify this in the next report. Please, tell me if you see something wrong.

I totally agree with you.

Thanks for the comment! :)

Maybe contributors did not understand the new bot yet and opted to not contribute until they learn how it works

I would like to say that contributors have nothing to worry about. They mostly compete within a category until the post comes to the payout time. Actually, @amosbastian summarized it quite well already.
