Improvement on ''explore'' to improve users experience on commons-app

Components

Commons is an Android mobile application that allows direct upload of images to the wiki. The project is quite huge and has lots of users.
The functions within the apps are not much but important enough to attract lots of users.

The Home feature displays all uploaded images with the functions to take a photo from camera or a direct upload of an image from the gallery.
There are strict terms and rules to consider before uploading any image because the project is a wiki type and does not allow uploading of selfies and other related images but allows upload of professional images of buildings, status, beaches or any other images that serve as information to viewers.

Other features include nearby, explore, which shows random images that users of the project has uploaded.
I am a new user of the project but, I developed a huge interest in the project, and I have spotted some bugs that are restricting proper utilization of the application.

Proposals

While I was checking the explore feature, I found a feature that will have a nice impact on the user's experience.
As mentioned above, images on the explore section are random images uploaded by different users and, the tab allows direct download of images on the app, and I think for more direct credit to the original owners of images. I propose a more "technical favorite" function.

The function will allow users to favorite any image of their choice and this will send a signal, (in the form of Notification) to the original owner of the image that the image has gotten 1 ''favorite'' by a user and that will be a continuous behavior of the function.

Apparently, this is a function that will give the development team of the project a tough additional task, but the end result will be a great win for users and project owner.

Benefits

One of the benefits is the gamification which will implore more people to use the project.
Moreover, most professionals photography will know their work is hugely valued directly on the app and will also give them more visibility.
Average users can also get some tips from professional users in the project because it will be very easy to spot professionals works.
That is the improvement I consider for the future releases of the project.
