Suggestions Category - Weekly report: #1

in #utopian-io6 years ago

In this post you will see statistics of the Suggestions Category.
Also I will show you common mistakes and how to fix them.

Category summary

  • Week: 42 (from 10/15 to 10/21)
  • There were 8 contributions of which 6 were, or will be, rewarded.
  • The average score was 51.4 with an average reward of 23.8 STU from Utopian.
  • The total reward from Utopian for suggestion contributions this week (so far) is 23.8 STU.
  • There were a total of 7 unique contributors in the category.

Suggestions and other categories

In this boxplot we can see that, although the highest score of Suggestions Category is lower than the highest score of Blogs and Development, the minimum is bigger. Also the median of these three categories is pretty the same. Meaning that the contributors didn't get a high score (> 80) this week but most of them were rewarded (with a median of 65 and an average of 51). Remember that upvotes are never guaranteed.

Common mistakes and how to fix them

Happily we had a few contributions with low score.
These are the most common mistakes of this week.

Contributions with a score of 25 or less

The suggested feature is already in the project.

Always try the app before suggesting new features. Use it a few days, search info about the project owner, look at the repository, read the entries in the Issues Tracker, look for alternative apps and check if they has the feature that you are going to submit. To get a higher score try to submit original/rare/unique features, these are more valuable for the PO.
Check if there are features that can be used to achieve the same goal with the same effort.

The suggested idea is duplicated

This is not easy to spot, so do not rush an take a few minutes to check this.
Go to the repository of the project and check the Issues Tracker. There, remove the is:open filter from the search field to look for open and closed issues, then write a word (or two) which could describe the feature you are going to submit. After that, look at if it was suggested on Utopian in the past, a good search engine for that is AskSteem

Contributions with a score of 50 or less

The overall presentation of the post is below the average and/or the suggested features do not add significant value

The formatting, language and overall presentation of Utopian posts is important, a good and well formatted post is easy to read and understand. Check this post made by @espoem. Also, I recommend you to read @didic's comments
Always submit original and detailed features that add value to the project. This is not mandatory but highly appreciated, these kind of suggestions usually have a high score.

The data was fetched from Utopian.rocks.
This post is inspired on @amosbastian's weekly posts, for that reason you could find similarities with his posts, although I tried to make it different.
I intentionally copied the category summary section from Amos' post to follow a common pattern.

There's a lot to like in this post, and I'm glad that more and more category managers are doing this. I like the data, and I really liked the tips.

I think the post could have been better written, in regards to style, grammar, and proofreading. I'm sure you can do better, and trust that you will in the next installment.
