Babymoon - PART II

Singapore: Marina Bay

From Part I

When we got matched with our son, we decided to take a few days prior to pick up to spend together. I like to call this my babymoon, kinda like a honeymoon but instead of post action, do it pre, as who has time after they have a baby.

I am sure my hubby @shai-hulud would have been happy at home gaming right up to the last minute, but as the saying goes happy wife, happy life so we landed in Singapore with two days and three nights to spend exploring.

I had aspired to get this awesome post with the entire babymoon/Singapore adventure done with the hope that @curie or @ocd-resteem found it and did their awesome thing, but given it is almost a month since the babymoon and three weeks since we picked up our little man, I am finding that time is limited so instead I will be putting it out in parts.

Another not as brilliant idea I had was to walk to Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Sea in the mid-afternoon heat. We found these rock chairs that were so cool to the touch that we laid down for a quick break after the 40-minute power walk. While the walk was doable, the humidity was a killer, so we caught the MRT closer to the hotel.

If we weren't walking, we used the MRT, even to and from the airport with luggage and backpacks in tow, it was way cheaper than taking a taxi for the two of us. The trains were full but accommodating. They were also very tourist-friendly, relatively cheap and easy to navigate. The best thing about the trains, the one to and from the airport was driverless, which meant you could see right out the front, which made the trip like a space ride.

Marina Bay Sands

What an amazing sight this hotel resort is, it looks like a giant boat floating in the sky by day and an aeroplane that switches up colours throughout the evening. Funny thing, I thought I only saw this place from the outside but when I started to research for this post I found that Marina Bay Sands is much bigger than my expectations and that the shops are all part of the complex, so we did indeed go inside and even eat some delish Japanese in the progress.

I am bad at food photography as I always get so excited or am so hungry that I eat it before I remember to take a photo and it never looks as appetizing. This is one of those days, trust me it looked great and while not what I was expecting for chicken karaage, it was delicious.

Entertainment was left right and centre and most of it was free. This is the first of two shows we got treated to while at the sands. The kids ran around and expelled their energy while the adults watched the show, it was free to watch, while there was a small free to play. It could have given anyone hours of entertainment as the pattern of the disc rotated through themes every 15 mins or so.

After dinner, we made our way to the free laser light and water show 'Spectra' Funnily enough designed by an Australian company, it gave me goosebumps and even brought a joyful tear to my eye. I love live shows and this 15-minute show was not one to disappoint.

videotogif_2018.06.13_20.38.34.gif

It runs at 8 & 9 pm Sunday to Thursday and 8, 9 & 10 pm Friday and Saturday. We saw this from the event plaza right outside the Marina Bay Sands. There is a purpose built seating area to view the show, so make sure you get there early to get the best seat. We arrived just before it began, so stood for a period of time before

Fun Facts

  1. The whole project was budgeted to cost S$3.85 billion, however upon finalisation it cost the developer S$8 billion, making it the most expensive resort casino of it's kind.

  2. Not to worry it brings in a ridiculous amount of cash when combined with the only other casino in Singapore brings in 1.5 to 2% of the countries GDP, food for thought next time you sits down to gamble.

  3. If you didn't already understand this from the images, it's huge, it has 2,561 hotel rooms, six expo halls, 250 meeting rooms, and the biggest ballroom in South East Asia, which is why it is in the top 40 largest hotels in the world.

  4. Right up the top is the longest infinity pool at a height in the world, at 191 metres (627 ft) above ground, it is close to 150 meters long. We didn't make it up the top as there is quite a fee to use the facilities if you are not staying at the hotel, it had nothing to do with my nightmare the night before about it being see-through and breaking with me in it. Oh before I get too distracted, it also holds a ton of water, that's a lot of water.

  5. People in Singapore know how to use underground resources and the Marina Bay Sands is no exception, there is an underground labyrinth that is for staff only, it is deeper than the MRT system and even has it's own 7/11 shop.

  6. Besides the shops, hotel and casino there is an art museum that is in the shape of a lotus, it has a retractable roof and collects water during the day for the water shows they run nightly.

This is just one of the piece's of art outside, we were short on time so never made it inside but Singapore is hub for most of our flights out of Perth and given the number of free activities for families, I am sure we will be back with our little man in the future and by then I am sure more amazing things will have developed, as Singapore is right up there with sustainable development for a better future.

Yay, thanks for your support.

Looks like a really great place to visit. Glad to see you both having so much fun.

It's a great country. A bit expensive in comparison to the country's around it but very inventive.

Did you check out the Rain Oculus? We spend so much time whispering end to end... haha
Beautiful pictures :)

No we missed that, where was that? There was so much to see and do and limited time to squeeze it all in. We saw a tapas bar called the Oculus in Clarke Quay, but it was closed during the day.

It is at Marina Bay Sands... It's outside and anyone can check it our. It was mesmerising to watch the water swirl through. Also the whispers...
Yes, I can imagine trying to squeeze everything in 😊

That would have been cool. I so love the rain. Always wanted a tin roof so I could hear it better but my hubby won out with a tile roof.

A tin roof... so cute 😊

haha, we had one when I was a kid, we also lived in a mud brick house :D

Oh, that sounds so cool

This looks very beautiful and you look happy !
I love the colors also water is a great form of attraction.
Thank for sharing.

Thanks, yeah water can be an amzing tool for art. It was a fun trip, last one with zero responsibilities.

That resort is amazing! Such an architectural feat with everything going on.

Your food photo issues made me laugh because I'm the exact same way! A few bites in and my plate is a mess and I think, oh shoot, I was going to take a picture of this haha

Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one lol. Its a common occurance. Sometime shai reminds me but most the time he looks at my face a few mouthfuls in and knows I've forgot again. Lol.

What a beautiful trip, I love the GIFS!

#didyoumakethem #amazing

Yeah, me or my hubby made all the gifs we used here. Just mini parts of the videos we took while out on our ventures. Thanks for noticing them. Sometimes people scan so quick they dont have time to load.

No worries,

I always appreciate a good GIF :)

Where are you guys situated in Australia?

Haha, I'd be running too, those things have a super powerful kick..lol. I'm originally from Victoria and thats where my parents live but now I live in Perth with my hubby and son. My sister and niece also live here now.

What about you? Where you from?
