Hi Steemians! Yesterday I started exploring Toronto's neighbourhoods. As you may know, the Canadian metropolis is a very multicultural city and as for example in New York or Singapore, there are whole districts that belong to their own population groups. Three of them are conveniently located on a direct walk from my accommodation to the city centre.

Hallo Steemianer! Gestern begann ich Torontos Neighbourhoods zu erkunden. Wie ihr vielleicht wisst, ist die kanadische Metropole eine sehr multikulturelle Stadt und wie beispielsweise auch in New York oder Singapur, gibt es ganze Stadtviertel, die eigenen Bevölkerungsgruppen zugehörig sind. Drei davon liegen praktischerweise auf direktem Fußweg von meiner Unterkunft zum Stadtzentrum.

Little Italy

Approximately half a million Italians live in Toronto, as can be seen from the size of this district. There is no real Italian flair, but you can't expect winding, cobblestone streets in a city where almost all streets are built according to the chessboard pattern.

Ungefähr eine halbe Million Italiener leben in Toronto und das merkt man auch an der Größe dieses Stadtviertels. Wirklich italienisches Flair ist zwar nicht zu verspüren, aber mit verwinkelten, kopfsteingepflasterten Gassen kann man natürlich auch nicht rechnen, in einer Stadt, in der fast alle Straßen nach dem Schachbrettmuster aufgebaut sind.

By the way, the borders between the individual districts are not clear, so you can also find Thai restaurants in Little Italy, for example.

Die Grenzen zwischen den einzelnen Vierteln sind übrigens fließend, man findet also zum Beispiel auch Thai Restaurants in Little Italy.

Kensington Market

The name of this quarter is a bit misleading. It is not a market, but Toronto's artists, hippies and dropouts quarter. Here you meet even more weird characters than in the other parts of the city and it is almost impossible to attract attention here. This neighborhood is very trendy, you can literally feel the energy of this city here, which reminds me of NYC over and over again.

Der Name dieses Viertels ist etwas irreführend. Es handelt sich nicht um einen Markt, sondern um Torontos Künstler- Hippie- und Aussteigerviertel. Hier trifft man auf noch mehr schräge Typen, als in den anderen Stadtteilen und aufzufallen ist hier wohl so gut wie unmöglich. Das Viertel liegt voll im Trend, hier spürt man förmlich, welche Energie diese Stadt ausstrahlt, die mich immer und immer wieder sehr an NYC erinnert.

Chinatown

Besides the Italians, the Chinese are among the largest ethnic groups in the city. The streets of Chinatown are dominated by colourful signs with Chinese characters, small shops with exotic food and of course many Chinese restaurants.

Neben den Italienern zählen die Chinesen zu den größten ethnischen Gruppen der Stadt. In den Straßen von Chinatown dominieren bunte Schilder mit chinesischen Schriftzeichen, kleine Läden mit exotischen Lebensmitteln und natürlich viele chinesische Restaurants das Stadtbild.

Back in Downtown

After these many different impressions I followed Dundas Street, which also runs through Chinatown, to the famous Eaton Centre, the largest shopping centre in downtown, which fascinates with its architecture. One of the highlights is the glazed roof, for which the Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle II. in Milan served as a template. Below is a sculpture that depicts a swarm of almost real looking flying geese.

Nach diesen vielen verschiedenen Eindrücken folgte ich der Dundas Street, die auch Chinatown durchzieht, bis zum berühmten Eaton Centre, dem größten Einkaufszentrum der der Innenstadt, das durch seine Architektur begeistert. Zu den Highlights zählt das verglaste Dach, für das die Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle II. in Mailand als Vorbild diente. Darunter befindet sich eine Skulptur, die einen Schwarm fast echt wirkender, fliegender Gänse darstellt.

Afterwards I went to the town hall square for some night shots. I have already seen a lot of this city already, but there is so much more to discover. So now I will start a new city walk and tell you about it again in the next article!

Zum Abschluss ging es dann noch für ein paar Nachtaufnahmen zum Rathausplatz. Ich habe nun schon viel von dieser Stadt gesehen, doch es gibt noch so viel mehr zu entdecken. Also werde ich gleich einen neuen Stadtspaziergang starten und euch im nächsten Beitrag wieder davon berichten!
