Impressions from Singapore / Impressionen aus Singapur

I was last week on a short business trip to meet colleagues from the APAC region. We stayed at the superb Fullerton hotel which originally was built on the foundation of a fortress and in the past was also the General Post Office Building of Singapore. Only 1998 to 2000 it was carefully reconstructed to a hotel. It is considered now a national monument.

ich war letzte Woche auf Geschäftsreise, um Kollegen aus Asien zu treffen. Wir waren im exzellenten Hotel Fullerton untergebracht, das auf den Grundmauern einer Festung errichtet wurde und früher das Postgebäude von Singapur war. Erst zw. 1998 und 2000 wurde es behutsam zu einem Hotel umgebaut. Es gilt heute als Nationaldenkmal.

Due to its central position between the Singapore river and the Marina Bay everything I wanted to visit was in walking distance. Here a view over the Singapore river to part of the financial district with a popular restaurant zone at the riverside.

Durch seine zentrale Lage zwischen Singapur River und Marina Bay konnte ich alle meine Erkundungen zu Fuß erledigen. Hier ein Blick über den Singapur River auf einen Teil des Geschäftsviertel mit einer beliebten Restaurantmeile am Ufer.

Breakfast time is also feeding time for the birds of Singapore. What attracts this bird so much?
Frühstück ist auch Essenszeit für die Vögel Singapurs. Auf was starrt dieser Vogel so?

Of course food remains. But this piece seems quite large.
Natürlich Essensreste. Aber dieser Brocken erscheint ziemlich groß.

And off he goes with his loot.
Und schon ist er auf und davon mit seiner Beute.

Singapore has a lot of interesting buildings. I liked how this building was greened up.
Singapur hat einige interessante Gebäude zu bieten. Mir gefiel zum Beispiel dieses üppig begrünte Haus.

Almost every day it rained (only in the afternoon). Without umbrella you are then "trapped" wherever you are. But you can drink a coffee and work (what I did) and sit out the rain - or you go shopping like the others.
Fast jeden Tag regnete es (immer nur am Nachmittag). Ohne Regenschirm ist man dann "gefangen" wo man gerade ist, aber man kann einen Kaffee trinken und arbeiten (was ich tat) und den Regen einfach aussitzen - oder man geht shoppen, wie die meisten.

But now to one of the modern landmarks of Singapore, the Marina Bay Sands Hotel which is dominating the skyline and which is illuminated nicely during the night. Every now and then they do some lasershows.
Aber nun zu einem der neuen Wahrzeichen von Singapur, dem Marina Bay Sands Hotel, das weithin von überall sichtbar und abends prächtig beleuchtet ist (im Bild läuft gerade eine Lasershow).

It is 191m high and on the top of its three towers it has a 340m long rooftop garden ("Skypark"). Also the architecture inside is impressive.
Es ist 191m hoch und seine drei Türme tragen einen 340m langen Dachgarten ("Skypark"). Auch die Architektur innen ist beeindruckend.

Best is that you can take an elevator all the way up (of course not for free) to enjoy the view! The picture shows the Skypark with its 140m infinity pool. On the right side the financial district.
Das beste ist, man kann hinauffahren (natürlich nicht umsonst) und von dort eine einmalige Aussicht geniessen. Im Bild der Skypark mit seinem 140m langen "infinity pool" (nur für Hotelgäste). Rechts das Finanzviertel.

On the other side of the hotel lays on reclaimed land the futuristic "Gardens by the Bay" with its bizarre solar trees. Also the first picture was taken there when I visited it in the night. More to that in part 2...
Auf der anderen Seite des Hotels liegt auf künstlich aufgeschüttetem Gelände der futuristische "Gardens by the Bay" mit seinen bizarren Solarbäumen. Auch das oberste Bild stammt von dort, als ich ihn am Abend besuchte. Mehr dazu in Teil 2...
