Colombia Part 23 - A one day trip Crossing the Guajira desert in Jeep (Photos + Videos)
As you know from my last post, Peter, Gil, Pierce, Jana, Manon and me had savely arrived in Cabo de la Vela, at the Guajira desert and we already discovered the area.
From here we wanted to go deeper inside the desert, so we decided to go to Punta Gallinas next, which is the most northern part of South america by the way.
We had to wake up pretty early and got in the jeep after enjoying a bit of the sunrise.
At first we still followed a "road" for like half an hour.
After that our driver just went on offroad... following his inner compass. It was a lot of fun driving offroad but also really bumpy at some parts of the road. As the sun came out more and more it got hot and dusty in the Jeep.
Every once in a while we took a break to switch places, because the two ones in the back were quite unconfortable, as with every bump you would jump up and had to be careful not to hit your head on the roof. Also there was a window missing so all the dust would come in :D :D
After 3 hours we did a little toilett- and food break, which in the end took a bit longer, because the group of another jeep needed our help changing a wheel.
It was a bit weird to see this little village with people living in the middle of nowhere.. they even got a little playground on the side.
When the Jeep of our friends was fixed we could go on for another two hours until we finally got to our pick up point, from where we would cross some lagoonns to get to our hostel.
The boat showed up in about 20 min and took us all the way through the lagunes. I am still impressed how the people here manage to organize everything, without celphones, internet or even electricity sometimes... maybe we are just not used to that anymore. :D
The boattrip was fun and it was kind of nice to be out of the dust.
As you can see the place was pretty basic, with hammocks as only choice for sleeping, showers yes.. but cold and not a lot of water and small meals. Everything was dusty because its pretty dry in the desert ;) -- But the people were super kind and we were already excited to see more!!
So getting there we enjoyed a great meal, got installed at our hammocks and enjoyed the view towards the lagoons before we would head out again to have more adventures.
As always I hope you enjoyed reading my post and I am grateful for every Upvote, Resteem and Comment, as you are supporting my travels with it!!
Cheers,
Liz

@lizanomadsoul I love your publications about Colombia, since you do them from a positive side and showing their kindnesses and tourist potentials, which all South Americans thank you for. The desert of La Goajira can be a rough and hostile environment for many, but for your photographs and videos, you can see that they enjoyed it a lot !. You were close to the border with my country, Venezuela that shares part of that territory with the sister country. I value and enjoy your work, both as a member of the community, and as a Caribbean !. I wait for the next one. Best regards.
Thanks my friend :) I appreciate your words! Colombia has so many beautiful sights to offer! The guajira desert was one of my favorit spots! I think today I will release the next part so keep updated :)
