Colombia Part 20 - Day Two at Tayrona National Park: A wonderful Day and horrible Night at the Beach of Cabo San Juan (Photos + Videos)

As I told you in my last post Kathi and I had entered the Tayrona Nationalpark and spent our first night after a 4 hours hike with some guys at Camping Don Pedro in the middle of the jungle.

The next morning we left early to reach Cabo San Juan. - The most popular part of the Park.

The first part of our 2 hours hike we had to cross more jungle. Just like the day before we were almost the only people on the path.

At first we were a bit lazy and wanted to rent some horses, that we had seen the day before standing around or occasionally running our way really fast... but unfortunately there weren´t enough of them available that morning.

So we just went walking through the jungle, climbing over fallen trees and rocks, avoiding the mud and sweating a lot as the air was still really humid and it started to get hot.

After about half an hour walking we got to the first beach!! Kathi and Peter were really exited about that :D For me it was just harder to walk without shadow and in the sand.

The first beach was Playa Arrecife followed by Arenilla and the Lagoon and beach of La Picina.

After 2 hours of this exhausting walk we finally arrived at Cabo San Juan!!! - The place that we already knew from many, posters and pictures!

Here we had to choose between sleeping in a tent or hammock downstairs or take a hammock up the rocks at the little cabaña. - Of course for us as adventure lovers it was pretty clear that we would take a hammock with the best view of all!! - We couldn´t know by then, that we would regret that later BIG TIME!

So we went up there, enjoyed the view and reserved ourselves a few hammocks... I put my own one. The view over the bay was just spectacular, it was warm and there was a little nice breeze blowing in my face while I stood there, watching the waves and enjoying the smell of the ocean.

Under the roof there are 12 hammocks put in a circle, which are suppost to stay dry :D As we were the first ones arriving, we could choose the ones with the best view just towards the sea.

From here we could walk to the balcony, enjoying the view to both bays and the sea, that was just in front of us.

After that long exhausting walk and getting installed, we decided to jump into the water, put a hammock at the beach get some food and beer and relax for a bit.

At 17:00hrs every path at this park was closed and we were forced to go upstairs, as the sun would go down soon and it was forbitten to come back after.

It was in fact dangerous to use one of the tracks or walk at the beach in the dark, because there were wild animals going around... like right here a few weeks ago a little child got eaten by a crocodile.. this happens to be the way from our place to the lockers, and also the other tents etc.. which would be a problem for us later.

We had enough beer and cigaretts to enjoy the sunset and made ourselves comfortable watching it.

This was actually also when the trouble began... all of the sudden big grey clouds were showing up and it started to rain and thunder... it got very windy and cold and we started to freeze a bit, but it still seemed to pass by fast...

We were wrong! - Soon it started to rain and the storm got closer and closer!

At some point the the water entered our space, the whole floor was wet, we were also getting wet and we had to put everything secure with us in the hammock in order to avoid that it would fly away. As you can see I was already pretty cold by then.

We just waited and waited that the storm would pass... but it didn't.

Some of us already fell asleep and others fought with the cold. Peter at some point started to shake so much because of the cold, that he decided to go downstairs and get his sweater... but within 5 minutes he came back without it... he told us that the way to our lockers was blocked by crocodiles...

About one hour later I had enough and checked upstairs if the private rooms there where taken or free... and we got lucky!! There was just one couple, also escaping from the hammocks, in one of the beds... the two other beds were still free.. so at 2am we finally were safe and warm, letting our wet stuff and hammocks behind.

This was by far the coldest and most horrible night of my life!! But also a great adventure!! We were sooooo happy to finally fall into that bed and sleep!!

As always I hope you enjoyed reading my post and I am grateful for every Upvote, Resteem and Comment, as you are supporting my travels with it!!

Cheers,
Liz

Oh yeah! Cloudless is the beginning of a journey, and such a storm at the end. I can't even imagine myself in your place, I really don't like the cold. (One time I floated on the river Chusovaya and the weather all 7 days were terrible, it was 7 cold and damp in the tent... ) I'm glad you moved to a drier and warmer place!
P.s. "way to our lockers was blocked by crocodiles... "- this sounds ominous...)

yeah! 2 days after they closed the whole park and evacuated the people because the weather apperently went on like that and it got a bit dangerous. I also hate the cold!! And I couldnt even get my sweatshirt :D Oh no! 7 in a tent?! That sounds horrible also! Where you alone?! We at least tried to warm each other :D - We were so happy to find that place! I hope this never happens to me again ;)

it's a very nice trip. I've also just traveled in my post.
