What is a Statusmatch?

Many Airlines and Hotels offer Status to frequent guests. So once you reach a number of flights or stays you will receive special benefits even if you fly coach. 

The Oneworld Alliance has a very compelling Statusbenefit if you reach the highest Tier Emerald. You will be able to access First Class Lounges even on Economy Class Tickets. 

The problem with Frequentflyer program is that once you are locked in into one program you are very unlikely to change to another as you don't want to start again from scratch. So Airlines and Hotels came up with a Status Match to get other customers to try out their products. 

Airberlin offers the easiest Status Match of all Airlines you have to send in a  picture your current Status Card with another airline and they will match your Status up to Gold in the Airberlin (up to Platinum if you are Lufthansa HON)

If you have Status through Amex etc. you can start matching your Cards to other Alliances or Hotel Chains. If you have a flight with an airline coming up you should check if there are any Statusmatch offers outthere. You could get an extra free bag, Lounge access or with a Hotel you could receive free breakfast, Suite upgrades or Latecheckouts.
