Exploring Angkor Wat

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemit back again with another travel blog. This time it from one of the most famous temples in the world called Angkor Wat and for any of you that don't know its located in Siem Reap which is one of the bigger cities in Cambodia.

Here's a map showing you the temple complex that houses many different temples such as Ankor Wat, Bayon and Ta Prohm to name a few. There are so many possible temples that you could see if you wanted to. This leads me nicely onto my next point and that is the temple passes. You can get a temple pass ranging from one day, three day and seven day all increasing is price. We decided to adopt the three day pass enable us with plenty of time to go and explore the temples as we pleased rather than rushing around like headless chickens with only one day on the pass.

We booked a tour with our hostel called the ''Grand Tour'' it cost us $18 for a 6 hour private tuk tuk and we got the chance to see the sunrise over Ankor Wat itself. Despite seeing the sunrise on the first door the sky was far too cloudy for one of the spectacular sunsets you see in pictures. Luckily we had the three day pass though and decided to spend our third day by going to Angkor Wat again and it was significantly better.

While I was exploring Angkor Wat we came across two monks located inside the temple itself and they offered the ability to bless you ! I took them up on this offer for a small donation and its probably the most unique experience I've ever done and something I'll never forget ! I've made a video showing me being blessed and I'll provide that here :

I'll post a collection of pictures from Angkor Wat here.

Over the three days we spent exploring the temple complex we saw so many different temples I've actually forgotten which temples in the complex that the vast majority of my photos are from so I'll post little annotations next to the ones I know for you.

Overall this is definitely the main attraction to see in Siem Reap and I'd have to recommend anybody that visits Siem Reap goes to Angkor Wat its such a unique special experience !

Thanks for reading,
Ben

It is one of my dreams visit this magnificient temple. The first and the third photo remind me part of the movie Mortal Kombat :) :) because it was shooted around there :)

Its a very magical place to visit - So much to see and do ! Make sure you go early to avoid crowds

I really like the temple. You had some really nice personal and cozy pictures that help with the atmosphere. I would't like to visit the temple and be surrounded by millions of people screaming and upsetting the sight :D
Thanks for sharing and I will read your other reviews, like Koh Phi Phi which I visited two months ago. Cheers!

Glad you enjoy reading my reviews - Yeah you definitely need to explore this one early to avoid the crowds big time otherwise its crazy ....

This was a great post, I would love to visit Angkor Wat someday. You always see the main temple in pictures and it looks big, but the information you have provided does a better job of showing the immense scale of the whole area. It looks like you had a really cool time and how cool that you got blessed by the monks! Thanks for sharing.

There are so many temples its crazy ! Definitely worth visiting !

I have wanted to go for a while, but I keep hearing from people that it is sooo crowded. Your pictures don't seem as though there is any crowd at all. Did you go at a super slow time or am I just mis informed? Thanks.

It does get crazy busy - What we did was on the second day at the temples was get there for opening time around 4am and everybody else is watching the sunrise from outside, we just went inside and as soon as the sun rose we took these pictures before the crowds entered

Ah, that's a genius tip. Thanks.

A very beautiful place. Places that keep the sculpture on temples

Have you been ? You should visit
