Travel 101 – Luggage Tags Tips and Tricks

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hello my fretz!

Welcome to my Travel 101 Series, where you'll get tips and tricks on how to make your travels and adventures a hassle-free trip. You're going to learn the ropes of how to become a stress-free traveler.

You baggage/luggage are one of most important things that you should always keep safe when traveling. These are where your clothes and travel essentials are stored. This is why baggage tags exist to prevent you from losing your belongings.

Significance of Using Luggage Tags

Majority of the time (guilty me ^^) people don’t usually put luggage tags on their bags. Even if you don’t check in your bags, that doesn’t excuse you from not having luggage tags. Here are some benefits of putting tags:

  • Having similar bags, can be difficult to identify. By having a distinguishable tag that you attach your luggage with can ensure that you have the right bags with you and you don’t lose your bag.
  • This gives lesser probability of getting your luggage stolen. Thieves prefer to have those bags that do not have any tags or identification in it so they can easily make an alibi that they picked the wrong bag.
  • There are instances that your baggage/luggage can get lost or has been boarded on another flight. The personnel can find it quickly and they have all the information they need for them to return your things.
  • What Information should be Present on your Tags?

  • Name – Write your name the same as the name that you have on your flight tickets. If it’s uncomfy for you, you can simply put in your first initial and last name.
  • When traveling with the family and you have multiple bags with you, then you can use one contact name for all bags.

  • Cell phone number – For security and privacy purposes, you don’t have to provide your home phone number. Best that you write your cell phone number on the tags since your cell phones are always with you and then you can easily receive messages or calls when someone finds your luggage.
  • Hotel Address and Phone number – You might be going out of the country or your cell phone signal might be scarce. Then providing your hotel address and phone number can also help that person in contacting you.
  • Alternate contact number – If you are not comfortable giving your home phone then best that you also provide an alternative number for them to call you. You can use your best friend’s cell phone number or anyone whom you can trust.
  • Note: Please include area codes and country codes on all contact numbers.

Common Concerns When Providing Home Address and Contact Details

For some, providing your home address or phone number can be risky because by doing so can alert burglars that there’s no one home. There are others who think that providing home addresses can help in shipping their luggage back home.

Just to be on the safe side, best that you use your office address and number as another alternate contact as to make sure that your home is safe from any burglars or scam artists.

    Other Luggage/Baggage Tag Tips:

    source

  • Make sure that the contact details on the tags are printed or written clearly.
  • Best to purchase waterproof tags to ensure that tags are not susceptible to smearing and tearing.
  • Put tags outside and inside of your luggage. Inside tags should be placed in a conspicuous place inside your bag.
  • Best to have light and bright and unique tags, so you can easily identify your bag from afar or when in a carousel.
  • By putting luggage tags can ensure that you’ll have a stress-free vacation and you don’t have to fret when your luggage are misplaced or lost.

I do a lot of travelling, and definitely use tags all the time (in addition to having a bright orange suitcase).

I don't have my home address on my tags, but do list both my contact number and email address (in case I'm international and not using my local number).

Email is a great idea as well. Bright orange bag is super cool. ^^

These are really great tips, never even thought of not using my home address. Also hiding another tag inside your bag makes alot of sense in case someone pulls the tags off your bag.

    Thanks for sharing 😊

You're welcome. Yes, definitely the tags inside the bag is a great idea. ^^

or you know....write your steemit URL on the tag :p

Nice one. ^^ maybe I'd do that as well. :)

Ah. Outside and inside. Did not think about inside :). I think I just put phone numbers on tags as well.

Boom ^^ Let's be careful next time. ^^

This gives lesser probability of getting your luggage stolen. Thieves prefer to have those bags that do not have any tags or identification in it so they can easily make an alibi that they picked the wrong bag.

That's interesting Dawn. I'd never thought of that. Thank you :D

Great tips @dawnsheree! My son lost luggage once on a trip from South Africa to Germany, omly got to him 3 days later, sure having tags would have helped as it was a humongous task trying to trace it! To make matters worse, his prescription medicine was in it so it cost him a visit to a German doctor, was quite hectic!

Wooohoo. That's quite an experience. This is the reason why we should be putting tags in and out. Glad your son's trip was okay and he was safe. ^^
