Travel 101 – How to Take Care of Your Passport

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Passport is a form of identification that is officially given to you by the government as a form of identification and proof that you are officially a citizen of that country. This is the number one requirement that you’ll need if you want to go out of the country.

Maayong Buntag/Good Morning Steemit Fretz!

Welcome to my Travel 101 Series, where you'll get tips and tricks on how to make your travels and adventures a hassle-free trip. You're going to learn the ropes of how to become a stress-free traveler.

Being able to travel overseas is the most fulfilling thing I’d want to do in my life. I’ve only been to one out of the country trip my whole life and it was quite memorable because I was with my sister.

One of the most important things that you need to carry with you when traveling is your passport. Without this, you won’t be able to fly overseas or get past through any borders. Once you lose it or damage it while outside the country, you will have to go and call the embassy to give you an emergency replacement, which is very expensive and inconvenient.

How to Take Care of Your Passport

Your passport is your gateway to going overseas. Damaged and lost passports would be considered useless since immigration officers don’t accept any tampered documents.

Here are a few suggestions on how to make sure that you keep your passport untarnished and prevent it from getting lost.

Buy a Cover

The first time you receive your passport or whenever you renew it, you should always make sure that it is protected. You should have invested on a durable passport cover.

There are tons of things that can happen when you simply put it on your bag, it can get dents or fold or worst gets ripped apart. Best that you have it placed in a safe place as to not to get any folds and etc.

Passport has different shapes and styles. Style can be appealing to the eyes but just make sure that your cover is durable enough that it won’t damage your passport.

Don’t Leave It Anywhere or Use as a Deposit

At times, when traveling, you want to rent a bike or motorcycle, you need to leave some sort of identification as an assurance that you’re going to return what you borrowed. Don’t ever, not in the least think about leaving your passport. Bear in mind that you are not the only one who leaves stuff in there. There’s a chance that they lose a few of them.

Use another ID to show as identification. As much as possible, refrain from using your passport to get or rent on things. Once you lose them and you’re out of the country, the hassle is just tenfold. You get to extend another day in that country but not as a tourist and you have to make some phone calls, rebooked flights and etc.

Always Keep it Dry

Bad weather, rain, snow and all sorts can potentially damage your passport if you just leave it unattended. Getting your bag wet from the rain or from any water activity can soak in lots of moister that can enter inside your bag and get your passport wet.

It’s best that you put your passport on a zip lock. Best to put it again on another zip lock. When we were traveling my sister and I doubled protection by putting our passport in a zip lock and then put it on another zip lock just to make sure. When you’re in a foreign country, you just don’t want to get in trouble because you didn’t take care of your passport and you got it wet.

A passport is the most important proof of one's identity and losing it while traveling can get you in trouble. By following these tips, this can lessen your worries and ensure that your passport is safe and sound. You also get to tour around without any hiccups. Until next time my fretz!
