My first car was a 1964 Chevelle el Camino. What an awesome first car. What was your first car?

in #transportation8 years ago

I was just thinking about my first car. My brother's co-worker was selling his el camino and I just got my drivers license. Back in 1988, $1000 dollars seemed like a lot of money, but I loved the car and I needed the wheels. It was my first car purchase and the el camino was the coolest car I ever owned.

The one regret I have about my el camino is that I painted it red. It was so much cooler in the primer. I spent hours on body work and I spent too much money on the paint. The car wasn't the same after I painted it, but it was still the coolest cruiser and daily driver I ever owned.

What was your first? What was your favorite car? I'm @runridefly, and I would like to know what wheels you enjoyed cruising in the most. Thank you for viewing my post

Lovely car! Check out these American muscle cars I recently discovered in Bangkok, Thailand.

Hah great topic... my first car a 1970 Dodge Charge with a 318 and automatic shift... I don't have a before updates and lots of lost knuckle skin.

Loved MOPAR back in the day! Sweet ride! The 318 was a really strong motor too. That had to be a fun car to drive!

I have a dodge A-100 van it is powered by a 318. I love 1960s cars and trucks.

Those are so cool with the flat front ends! My friend had one of those when we were younger. Good times. Feeling hungover just thinking about it LOL.

@kyusho, a true american classic. Thank you for the comment.

Well when I first got it for Christmas from my parents (they paid $250 for it), the real fun was when the engine shifted to one side (broken engine mount), and locked the accelerator link. But with all those knuckles later, she ran fine until I picked up a 73 340 Cuda... I will put them all up tomorrow.

@kyusha, one time I hit a large dog on a rural road near my house and the radiator was pushed into the fan. Only car problems I had with the chevelle

Whoa bummer, more for the dog... but wow.

My folks gave me my first car, a 1966 Mercedes Benz that dad had bought used in Germany. We drove it around the continent for about three months when I was seventeen. Dad then shipped it back to the states, and I inherited it after it broke down somewhere in Texas.

I drove it up to Illinois, got married, moved to New Hampshire, and it ultimately and sadly died of neglect due to my being an impoverished young married... :( I sold it for junk to a local garage.

@creatr, a girl in high school had a serious crush on me and she had the same car as you and she drove it into a ditch. Awesome first car my friend

Super cool! Mine was a Peugeot 206....lame in comparison.

@benjojo, my aunt sandy bought a Peugeot 505 new here in california in the early 80s. What a rare car on the road back then.

My first car was a Yugo 45, it took me everywhere. Amazing car, I could trade my Dacia for a new yugo.

@alktoni, i have seen a few of these around here, but it was a rare sighting here in california.

Nice first car indeed. Mine was a 1971 Buick Skylark convertible. Took this image off Google, unfortunately don't have a picture of it. But mine looked almost identical, same color with centerline mag wheels and lifted a bit in the rear with air shocks.

1960's through 1972 muscle cars are my favorite generation. @the-bitcoin-dood, super sweet car my friend. Love the olds, pontiac, chevy and buick A-body style

Man that is what my Brother and I used to rehab and flip... tomorrow I'll post'em with the newer models as well... great idea for a post @runridefly

Same here. The 60's and early 70's were great years for automobiles. Nothing beat American muscle back then! Best part was, we could buy them cheap in the 80's. Fun time to be young and into cars. The price tags on these cars now are just insane.
