Thoughts - Mechanical Analog and The Next Generation!
Albert Einstein (i hope everybody heard about him lol) once said: "Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere." Just from the beginning i would like to tell you that i am a huge fan of technology so all my thoughts in this blog are not against it, but how sometimes it does affect some niches... well in this case the mechanical analog watch!
In case you did not know all the Swiss industry of watchmakers are reporting financial losses. And there is no wonder why: try to convince these days a teenager to spend money on a mechanical analog watch. You should know that we are checking the time at least 100 times a day and we do that without even realizing. But try to convince someone (in our case the young generation) who is checking the time these days on a display (a display that is offering much more relevant information, functionality and most of all connectivity) to change to something that tells just the time!
Our young generation is growing up with the understanding that digital devices are more desirable then pretty much everything else.
Just ask one teenager to give up his/her mobile phone or to delete his account in some of the social media that they are active and you will understand how important it is for them... Just try and you will be surprise!
I think tying to convince the young generation to buy and wear a wristwatch seems a bit like trying to explain to someone (who doesn't even remember compact disc) why a vinyl record is so much more desirable that a streaming music service which provides unlimited access to every piece of music. And yet vinyl records are still being sold!
For me a good quality Swiss watch ( i am not going to give brand names ) is more a "time piece" and a piece of art as well in a way but does young generation fells the same? Is technology in this case going to make the classical watch disappear?
Hmm well maybe we don't even have to convince them as i think that the more digital our lives become the more we will want to counterbalance them with a little bit of urban gardening, vintage clothing and why not a mechanical analog watch!

Even I find myself checking the time more often than I should.
I remember when I was wearing wrist watches, I even own 2 of them but they are left somewhere in my old stuff. My dad had preety nice watches.. but this was a long time ago.
We kinda gave up our freedom with tech. Luckily this is changing, it started with bitcoin, it continues with steem.
To answer your question, yes we are dependant of our smartphones, remember the time we used to remember phone numbers?
Anyway , every generation is different and has different needs and desires. We just need to remember not to become the old peeps who are getting mad cause the youngsters are different.
It is scientifically proved that we are watching the time in one day more then one hundred times and we do that without even realizing so don't worry about checking the time more often then you think you should. We all do! Of course i remember the time when we had to remember phone numbers or writing them on one agenda to don't forget them.
I know every generation is different and have different needs and desires... i am a proud father so trust me i know that. My main idea of the blog was that us most of the time in our rush for new we forget the beauty of old and since i like a lot watches i mention them as an example!
I am not a father, not ready for it, I don't think anyone is ready to be a parent. Time is passing by but I want to offer my kid or kids the best chance in life and at this point in my life I won't be able to.
I know how it is to grow with almost nothing, I don't want that for my children.

Nobody is really ready to be a parent but what i can tell you is that having a child is the most beautiful and amazing gift that we receive from life. I am a proud father and my child is the engine of my heart.
Thanks a lot for following me, i am as well following you and great idea by the way with the cell game. I am thinking as well about adding an interesting and fun game but for the moment i am still debating between some ideas that i have.

Very well said bro' I too agree the mechanical analog wristwatch industry will never actually go extinct. Indeed the market is shrinking as we speak and will continue to shrink to the point it will become a sort of elitist niche. Still there will still be demand for classic wristwatches. The vinyl is a very good comparison. The book industry is also another good example in my opinion. Yes, we read everything there is to read on the Internet, we read with Kindles and tablets but that doesn't mean the traditional paper book will just go away. Maybe in the future there will be much more valued than today... who knows?
All we have to do is adapt in a way that we still going to treasure the beauty of the things that we have now but soon we will call them vintage!
