Torshavn (Faroe Islands) - A place where time stood still...

The top photo shows how big is the place and i took it from the top deck of the cruise ship that i am working. I took a walk in to the city and talking with some locals (looks like everybody speaks very good English) i went to visit Tiaganes witch is the oldest part of the city. The beauty of the place is that is still made up of small wooden houses covered with turf roofs and from what i understand the oldest one dates back 500 years.

The place as you can see its really quiet and this despite the fact that few thousand tourists were here today from the two cruise ships that were docked in the port. I like a lot this turf roofs as they give a very relaxing atmosphere. The weather was not so great as it was a bit cold and most of the time cloudy but in a way this matched perfect with the place.
Another great place in Tinganes is the Tórshavn Cathedral!
It is the second oldest cathedral in Faroe Islands and have an amazing garden...
Of course i got charmed by the beauty of the place. It is great to see that there are places where we manage to live in harmony with nature. I did not walk a lot around mainly because of the weather but on my way back to the ship i did manage to make few more photos that i will share with you.
I stay for a while in this little harbor contemplating the view and relaxing. I wish i could stay longer here and be able to make more photos but the weather really rush me back to the ship. It was a place that i really enjoy, i am glad that i visited and i manage to share with you a bit of it! It is a place where time stood still for hundreds of years...
awww i love the little houses with grass on the roof :)
I like them a lot too! There is a Scandinavian thing with the turf roofs... but its fun and relaxing in the same time to see them.
Fascinating city indeed, the grassy rooftops give the region a unique rustic feel. I would enjoy visiting the place one day. How's the weather by the way besides the never ending rain? Was it cold when you visited the place? Looking at your photos, it looks rather cold for July :P
It is a very relaxing place where for sure if you visit you will "charge your batteries". The weather was really cold specially for July, only 14C (Celsius) and if you add that was windy as well then imagine and it rain as well for a while. But even with this weather the place is fascinating!
It looks like a lovely place to live. Little houses and great community :)
It is a great place and i am very happy i had the chance to see it... a very relaxing place and i got really excited when i sow the little houses with the turf roofs!
