How Steemit Makes Blogging Easy | 3 Issues New Bloggers Face

in #thealliance6 years ago

More people are aspiring to become successful bloggers and earn an income in 2018. With easy access to the internet all over the world blogging is an attractive proposition for anyone who would like to earn a side income or make a full time living.

However, blogging comes with many disadvantages. In this post I highlight 3 main issues that every new blogger faces and how Steemit makes it so easy to blog for anyone who may be interested.

Loneliness

The main issue that new bloggers face is that they feel isolated. Starting a blog on your own can be very lonesome. The first year is especially difficult because there is little or no traffic to a new blog. The majority of visitors who land on a new blog realize that they have arrived at a newbie blog and do not take it seriously.

For a newbie, blogging can be an entirely different experience. Agreed that a new Steemit blogger also gets fewer vistors than those who are experienced. But if you have a good title for your post and an attractive image that stands out you are bound to get clicks. The reason being that all new posts get the same chance when they are published and start appearing in the new feed.

In a previous post, I wrote about using tags judiciously so that your post can get noticed. It is better to be big fish in a small water body than a small fish in a large ocean. What I mean is that you should use tags which are not the top tags being used on Steemit.

To do this, you can sort tags available on by clicking on "view all tags"at the bottom of the list of tags on the left of the feeds. Choose one or more relevant tags which will not have more than a few thousand posts. By using these less popular tags your post will have a higher chance of being noticed.

Money

The second major issue that new bloggers face is that they are low on financial resources. You need money to make money when you are a new blogger. This problem is pretty much sorted out on Steemit because you get paid for your posts right from day one.

It is true that SBD earned by new blogs is less but it is better than no money at all. Besides, if your content is good there are high chances that your post may be selected by a curation service like Curie and get a big upvote.

There are quite a few Steemit bloggers who are earning a full time income from their blogs on Steemit - a platform that is less than 2 years old. Compare that with old world bloggers who take years to earn an income enough to call themselves full time bloggers.

Discipline

The third issue that bogs down bloggers is that they are unable to build the discipline that is required to make their blogs successful. Daily blogging is an exception and a majority of bloggers with their own domains on the internet post once a week or less.

Posting regularly is more a norm than an exception on Steemit. This is made easier due to several smaller communities which every Steemit user can be a part of, after meeting certain criteria laid out by the community leaders. By being active in the communities you feel encouraged to post regularly since you get people who are interested in your content, and upvote and comment on it each time you publish a post.

Some of the best bloggers groups on Steemit are @thealliance, @thesteemengine and @curator. If you are not a member yet, I highly recommend that you apply for membership to these groups while they are letting people in after a due application procedure.

So you clearly see how Steemit solves three of the biggest problems that bloggers face. In fact Steemit makes it easy for a new blogger to succeed on the platform.

Lot's of people think it's an overnight thing. Start a blog, get readers, make dat money. But there's a lot of stuff in between. Like...good content, hehe. Life as a blogger is not like Kevin Kostner in Field of Dreams. It takes a lot of work to become a big fish in the blogger pond, hehe.

True, and that is where Steemit simplifies the process for new bloggers through its various features. Eeven after the established bloggers make their voting circles, smaller communities make it work on Steemit. Thanks for your comment!

Yeah, the communities that have sprung up to support people as they come in, help them grow on the platform, and find their feet, amazing things. A part of several myself. Always hard to keep up with everyone, hehe. :)

I agree- this is not a get-rich-quick platform. It takes dedication and persistence as well as quality posts. I've been here since last summer and have made this my career. I out in 8-10 a day minimum and eventually it will all fall into place.

Yup. Slowly building up SP...takes forever. And when you think about what it will take to get to the votes that are worth dollars...but, if you keep at it, keep improving, keep reaching out...it will happen :)

This is all very true, making your way on this platform can be a long hard struggle - and certainly for many the biggest challenge will be overcoming the long initial period when all their work receives little views or reward votes. As you say plenty can be done to help improve your post rewards, and joining a community and generally finding people to keep up with helps alot - if you wish to gain views and upvotes you have to spend as much time as you can viewing and upvoting others work -that's what really pulls people back to your own blog.

So true. You get what you put in and joining groups makes it easier because commenting as a lone wolf gets us nowhere in my experience. Prior to joining a few groups I was a lone wolf, commenting away with long form comments but most of the trending pagers simply ignore most of the comments. It is only after joining groups like @thealliance, @thesteemengine and @curator that I started getting soem traction on my posts in the form of comments. Thanks for visiting my blog!

SAme here @maxabit - once I joined Discord groups and started interacting, thing began to go through the roof for me. Like you, I am a loner and homebody but steemit has been a personal revelation for me.

It true! I would not have stayed long in steemit if it were not for the communities I joined. The struggles we face is real and thank you for the honest opinions you have pointed out here. There are still a lot of people new to communities in steemit and this is a good way to introduce to new steemit users.

I'm in @thesteemengine too and I have to say I really enjoy the friendliness of the users there, might need to explore more on @thealliance!

The smaller communities do make a big difference. Without social support one feels lost as though alone in an ocean. The whales vote each other up and comment on each other's posts, leaving others to fend for themselves - until they give up and leave. Steemit's core idea is upheld by our communities and not by the super high steem power users. Thanks!

I think you are spot on about the three primary issues new Steemians face... but my experience has been that given some time, it should not be difficult to get along with a number of people and a few discord groups

Discord groups are a parallel social systems in themselves. Starting with a blog on Steemit and networking on Discord groups is the best way to promote content as well as make good contacts. Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you for these tips and sharing more insights in a bloggers life!💕

Some simple but GOOD advice given here! Everyone should take note of these. Steemit definitely will need a lot of effort from you and discipline churning those quality contents out.

You hit the nail on the head here! Steemit community is great for bloggers. I recently recruited a bunch of them to join steemit!

Congratulations! This post has been chosen as one of the daily Whistle Stops for The STEEM Engine!

As a 20-year veteran of blogging and social media. we should also not overlook that the "marketing angle" many people take with Steemit tends to set up newcomers with unrealistic expectations.

Also, let's not forget that a random newcomer who arrives at steemit.com is presented with the "trending" page which is filled with $500 posts, which could easily lead people to think this is just a giant "cash dispenser" where they can get lots of "money for nothing."
