Vanitas (in a Petri Dish) by Suzanne Anker
Vanitas (in a Petri Dish) by Suzanne Anker
I recently happened to come across First Street Green Park on a morning walk, I had been there a few months ago, and taken shots of some of the art so I almost didn't go and explore it, but something told me to go and check it out, and I noticed most of the art is new, including these pieces I will share in this post.

These pieces are called Vanitas (in a Petri Dish) and are by Arist Suzanne Anker.
Looking online I found some information on these pieces which I will summarize between shots,

Petri dishes, named after the German bacteriologist Julius Richard Petri (1852–1921), are the round, shallow glass vessels used variously in laboratories to grow bacteria, germinate plants, and view liquid samples under low-powered microscopes.

For these photographs, She fitted out Petri dishes with various dense materials and created little landscapes made of both naturally occurring and man made materials.

The tile Vanitas comes from the 17th Century genre of Dutch still life paintings

And a final shot to give you an idea of where these were located, they are on the right wall of this photo, as you can see there is a lot of other art pieces, so this last shot is also a teaser for more posts to come.

Thanks I enjoy walking and am always looking for things to get photos of :)
Very interesting street art. I like some more than others. I like the concept behind them though. So is that an alley? or just a pedestrian walk way? Are those on tarps? just always curious about where street art is found
THis is in an area where there is lots of street art, the alley is a walkway between streets, and changes occasionally,
the Petri dish art was on some sort of circular fabrics mounted to the fence
Thanks for additional info @tattoodjay
Most welcome :)
Oh my @tatoodjay, these are quite interesting...the insects and frogs, wow! Quite an original art display I would say, something to think about..perhaps speechless :) Looking forward to the next set of pics...
This was all of her work, such cool pieces and what a creative mind to think of this project
