On a Walk in Long Island City, I came across St Mary's Roman Catholic Church on the corner of Vernon and 49th Streets, with these statues out the front.
Unfortunately by the time I got there was near the end of my walk and the streets here were getting busy, and I just couldn't get a shot without people in shot.

I thought it was worth a shot of the Steeple as well quite cool detail on it.

And a shot of the Church Itself, I did some research online and found the Church in this area had a troubled start, including the church and 30 buildings in the area being destroyed in a fire inn 1893.
The current Church in a gothic style was completed in dedicated on October 29th 1894

Love the architecture on this church! So amazing that it is more than 100 years old. The US is so bad about tearing down old buildings - of course they don't seem to do that with churches. :)
Nice photos @tattoodjay. Statues are very peaceful and comforting. Even for those non catholics out here.
I like the light and shade in this last image of the full structure. The Gothic style was all the rage back in those days.

What a beautiful church. When I see these old buildings I sometimes wonder how many people have been in these buildings...pretty amazing when you think about it. So much history, tears and joy... Thanks @tatoodjay
