Clear the Mind for Personal Happiness and Transformation

in #success6 years ago (edited)

Your entire experience and quality of life can be attributed on your ability to clear and control the mind. Many of us believe that our happiness is dependent on outside factors and on what happens to us. This however is not true.

Our happiness depends on the way we react to what happens to us. And the same goes for every other aspect of our experience too: your stress levels are a result of the way you react to events, and your ability to be productive depend on your reactions too. This is where the quote "It is not what happens to you, it is how you react to it."

Reactions Change Outcomes

Let’s imagine that you’re in a truck and it’s hanging over the edge of a cliff. If you move too much then it’s going to topple over the edge. If you are aware of this situation, then in all likelihood you will be riddled with fear. Your heart rate will increase, your blood vessels will dilate, your muscles will contract and you will start breathing quickly. You’ll sweat and your mind will be all over the place.

But now let’s imagine that you’re in the very same situation but you believe that you can fly. In that case, you’ll probably sit happily and not worry all too much about your position! The point is, your reactions can cause situations to manifest in different ways.

Let’s say you’re standing up on stage and you’re about to give a speech in front of lots of people. Some of us think that we’re going to say the wrong thing, that we’re going to stutter and that people are going to laugh at us! We thus begin to panic and guess what? Our blood vessels dilate, our muscles contract and our heart rate goes up. Our mind begins to race which makes us more likely to make mistakes, our throat becomes dry and hoarse.

The irony is that the speech is much more likely to go wrong simply because we’re worried that it might! And now imagine the same scenario but where you believe it’s going to go well, or where you just aren’t bothered about what other people might think. This kind of calm mindfulness is going to help you to act as though there isn’t even an audience there!

Mindfulness

It’s not just these stressful situations that can benefit from mindfulness and calmness either. Imagine for example that you come home from work and you can’t stop thinking about the last thing your boss/client/colleague said to you. Then you wonder if you sent that important last email…

How present are you going to be when you get home? How much are your family likely to enjoy spending time with you?
Imagine that you are on a great holiday but all you can think about is whether or not you left the oven on at home. How much do you think you’ll enjoy the incredible views of mountains going past your window?

Imagine that you’re in the gym and your mind is thinking about the computer game you were playing last night, or what your friends said to you earlier. Do you really think that you’re going to be capable of exerting maximum force in that workout?

I have been guilty of this in the worse way. Being a stock trader my mind use to to be consumed with my trading, how will things work out tomorrow, what happened earlier today, how much I want to make the next week. It destroyed my way of life and why I had to give up something I had a strong passion for.

We must live in the moment and be aware of what our mind is doing at all times. This is how we can control it do be calm and enjoy our lives exactly the way we want to....

Oh man, I could go on and on about the importance of mindfulness. I'm glad you touched on it.

The "live in the moment" idea seems to be dying out in today's world because we are SOOO connected at all times. We can always see what someone else is doing or what better thing we could be doing. For instance, if you're at a local stand up comedian show by some John Doe (say he is quite funny), you should enjoy that moment right then; not imagining what it would be like to see Trevor Noah instead.

Life is amazing when we learn to be calm, positive, and mindful! Good work @bitdollar!!

Yea I often say how mindfulness, clarity, and awareness is like the best thing to have in our lives. It makes life so much better of course. Many people are trapped in there heads or phones with other thoughts rather than what is going on in the current moment.

This destroys the most amazing part of life and its create so much success in all aspects. It is how we can improve our intellect, solve problems, connect with people better, more opporunities will come this way and the list goes on.

Thanks for sharing this comment @cabernet!

we must always think positively, life is too beautiful to worry, good post ;)

You got it! :D

Hey, and how are things with you now? Do you still worry about past or future or have you found a way to deal with it? :)

Hardly at all. After meditating for a good 2 years, I don't have too many uncontrolled thoughts or have controlled the thoughts of the past and future. What also helps is staying busy on productive goals. This keeps you feeling great, satisfied, accomplished, progressive and motivated. It does happen time to time but I now have a clear mind most of the day and then ignite what thoughts and feelings I do want to have.

So I will head out in the day, looking for good loving happy vibes. To connect with people to keep the mood high and thoughts on the moment. Same with working with myself, I do things that stimulate me in the best ways and having a focus on things keeps my mind from wondering.

How is it for you?

I’ve seen a few of your posts. I like your positive attitude and how you have practical ideas about how to improve your life. Living in the moment is the only way to truly live. I’m now following you. I see that you are from Toronto. Nice. I’m also from the GTA.

Yea just outside of Toronto. Always glad to see other local Steemians here. I would love to do a meetup when I find enough of them here. :D Following you also @newcastle!

I’m up for a meetup for sure if we get enough local people. Good idea.

Yea let's keep in touch and try to do it sometime in the future.

"It is not what happens to you, it is how you react to it." This is actually true. Someone once told me you being happy or sad all depends on you and not someone else. What you have is your focus point or happiness and not what you don't have.
A positive mind, focused thought and a rest mind or a worryless mind is what make you have a great life. Thanks for sharing @bitdollar, you are always awesome with your post and have never for once let me down. Love ya

So glad you enjoy the posts. It is true we make the feelings within ourselves so we can't blame anyone else or thing. When someone touches you, it is you that creates the sensation within yourself.

Thanks for the kind words @tutufaith, love you too! :D

I think I have what to take home from 'mindfulness'.
Great post. I love the pictures I'm seeing.

You made some very valid points

Our happiness depends on the way we react to what happens to us.

It all boils down to choice. Whether we care to admit it, there are always options for us to choose from.

Mindfulness, however, isn't as easy, it takes conscious effort and self will to get rid of nagging thoughts and distractions.

Yes it is a choice because all choices have consequences.

You are right mindfulness takes practice and discipline but can be achieved!!!

It definitely can.
