As Obioha lay on his bed that afternoon, he tried to recall some of the happenings of the past few months. After leaving Tony and Nwamaka that night, he had decided that the best way to get back at everyone was to join a cult group. He sought out the members of The Dare Devils in the campus and indicated his interest to become a member. He was instantly accepted and initiated into their group. This cult group helped him secure the letter from the local government that he required. After that he discovered he did not really want to continue with his course of study.

Oftentimes, he would be away from school on one assignment for the Dare Devils or the other. These mostly consisted of armed robbery operations and counter attacks on other cult groups that offended them in anyway. Things had been moving on fairly well except that the last operation claimed quite a number of the members of the group.

The operation was a lifetime opportunity for the group as the money involved ran into millions. They made use of their best hands and this included their leader, Walter. They attempted to hijack a bullion van conveying money from the airport to the Central Bank. In the process of trying to hijack this van, things went out of control and many of them were shot dead.

Obioha was the only one who survived that operation. His survival was a kind of miracle since the gang encountered the police who launched a massive attack on them. He escaped alive but with a scar running from his cheek down to his jaw. Walter, the leader of the gang, was also killed.

Obioha brought out a mirror and looked at his face, running his hand along the scar. A stranger stared back. He could not recognise himself. He had avoided looking into the mirror ever since he escaped safely He put down the mirror and looked around the room. There was not much in the room. He had shared it wih the other cult members, but now he was all alone. The other members, who were still alive, had all escaped. Everyone was left on his own. Their leader was dead and his followers had scattered.

Their clothes were still hanging on the wall hanger. He searched through them all and got a small amount of money. He also got a revolver in one of the bags. He examined the gun and found it loaded. He caressed it like a baby, all the while thinking. He had now lost his intimate friends and as before, he found himself all alone. His mind went to all those who contributed to this. Finally, he dwelt on Nwamaka, Tony and their children.

He decided it was high time he paid them another visit. He waited till nightfall. He decided it was unwise to remain where he was as the police may call at any time. He heard there was now a serious offensive against armed robbers and cult members.

At about six in the evening, he got up and began to dress. He put on his shirt, a cap and a pair of sandals. He brought out the revolver and putting it into his hip pocket, he took a last look at the room and left, shutting the door firmly behind him.

From their hide out to Tony's residence would take about forty-five minutes ride on the bus. He went to the bus terminal, paid his fare and secured a seat in the front seat. About fifty minutes later, he disembarked at the bus stop closest to where Tony and his family resided.
