When I read the article that @lishu wrote yesterday, I reviewed a part of the history of the last 20 years, and I felt the need to remember those times.
This is not the subject of this article, but human nature, IT, the Internet and the digital society.
Sloth, greed and egoism
I think these three moral traits considered to be eminently negative are actually part of the engines of human evolution.
And I think they are defining for mankind.
Last but not least, I can tell you that in fact they were unjustly demonized.
Let's take them one by one.
The sloth – main factor of human progress
Don't you believe me? Why the man rode a horse for the first time? Or why did he put the animals to work for him? Laziness!
He also chose not to walk around in search of the necessary resources for life and began to make agriculture.
Also he invented a bunch of machines to take over the heaviest and boring tasks.
I'm lazy. Very lazy. So lazy that I use my brain rather than my muscles. I prefer to think in detail about the action, to mentally optimize it, and only after that to accomplish them. And if I get started, I do things quickly, because I get bored easily. And how well I can, that I do not have to do it again.
Greed - the origin of investment and capital
Greed is also a factor of progress. Why do you think that man invests intelligence, labor, money and time in creating new resources? To accumulate goods or money.
But would we have had finances without the desire to enrich man?
Or do you think that a field that currently generates high income would be a bit successful in their absence?
Egoism - the only way to do charitable things
Of the three moral traits, egoism is probably the most blamed. Wrongfully!
I admit. I'm selfish. At least until one point.
Yes! Because if I do not earn enough money, it will be tough for me, and then surely, I will not care whether you have what you need or not.
And if I do not have the resources to satisfy my basic needs, I certainly will not be able to do charitable work.
If, on the contrary, I have everything I need, I am quiet, and I have the clear mind, I can think of how to help you or those around me.
Is not that so? Just look at Bill Gates who founded the largest charity foundation in the world and you will agree with me.
"Everything that can be digital will be"
I had been in the computer field for a long time ago. I caught the beginnings of the Internet in Romania in 1995-1996 and I can say that I have lived all the changes brought by the new digital technologies.
The Internet has democratized and facilitated access to information. And the press, as I knew it, has almost disappeared.
By 1999 I saw the first digital camera. It had a resolution of one megapixel, and professional photographers at that time considered it a sort of unnecessary technical curiosity. Just that the Internet and technological evolution have led to the democratization of photography, and now there are many more professional photographers and infinitely more amateur photographers.
In the printing world, what else to say. Twenty years ago, barely the first color printers appeared and now almost anyone can use a color laser printer.
Closer to our day, after a few culinary shows in the United States and with the help of the Internet, there appeared a plethora of young chefs who really hit the position of the "gods of the kitchen" until yesterday's intangibles.
Consequently, I am convinced that the same thing will happen to all the areas touched by digital technology and, more recently, by the blockchain technology.
Sloth, greed, egoism and the blockchain technology - where can they lead?
Two things should be added, and we have the full picture of the future: decentralization and decentralized collaborative economy.
The democratization of access to capital and cutting-edge technology, blockchain technology, decentralized collaborative economy, and human nature (as shown above) will lead to a technological breakthrough with an unpredictable impact - a real "industrial revolution" of the 21st century.
In this context, SteemRomania can and must be one of the nuclei that will trigger a change in how we relate to the community, economy, resources and future.
It will not be easy to adapt to a model that no one has previously implemented. We will have to learn on the go and most likely there will be plenty of syncope.
We must learn to collaborate beyond the vainglory and atavistic instincts if we do not want to disappear swallowed by the coming changes.
And let's not forget that in any revolution there is a counterrevolution and the "blockchain revolution" will not be exempt from this.

Citind articolul de ieri al lui @lishu am revăzut o parte din istoria ultimilor 20 și ceva de ani și am simțit nevoia să rememorez vremurile de atunci.
Dar nu despre asta voi vorbi în articolul de față ci despre natura umană și despre IT, internet și societatea digitală.
Lenea, lăcomia și egoismul
Cred că aceste trei trăsături morale considerate eminamente negative sunt de fapt o parte din motoarele evoluției.
Și mai cred că definesc omenirea în esența ei.
Nu în ultimul rând vă pot spune că de fapt au fost demonizate pe nedrept.
Haideți să le luăm pe rând.
Lenea – principalul factor de progres al omenirii
Nu mă credeți ? Oare de ce s-a urcat prima dată omul în spinarea calului ? Sau de ce a pus animalele să muncească în locul lui ? De lene !
Tot de lene a ales să nu mai cutreiere pământul în căutarea resurselor necesare traiului și a început să facă agricultură.
Și tot așa a inventat o grămadă de mașinării care să-i preia sarcinile cele mai grele și mai plictisitoare.
Eu sunt leneș. Foarte leneș. Atât de leneș încât îmi folosesc mai degrabă creierul decât mușchii. Prefer să gândesc în amănunt acțiunea, să o optimizez mental și abia după aceea să trec la realizare. Și dacă tot mă apuc, fac lucrurile repede, căci mă plictisesc ușor. Și cât pot de bine, ca nu cumva să trebuiască să le mai fac odată.
Lăcomia – originea investițiilor și a capitalului
Lăcomia este și ea un factor de progres.
Altfel de ce credeți că omul investește inteligență, muncă, bani și timp în crearea de noi resurse ? Pentru a acumula bunuri sau bani.
Dar oare am fi avut finanțe fără dorința de îmbogățire a omului ?
Sau credeți că un domeniu care actualmente produce venituri ridicate ar avea vre-un pic de succes în lipsa lor ?
Egoismul – singura modalitate de a face lucruri caritabile
Dintre cele trei trăsături, egoismul este probabil cel mai blamat. Pe nedrept.
Eu recunosc. Sunt egoist. Cel puțin până la un punct.
Da ! Pentru că dacă nu câștig destul, nu voi avea cu ce să-mi duc zilele și atunci sigur nu mă va interesa dacă tu ai sau nu ce-ți trebuie.
Și dacă eu nu am resursele necesare să-mi satisfac nevoile de bază în mod sigur nu voi putea face acțiuni caritabile.
Dacă dimpotrivă am tot ce-mi trebuie, sunt liniștit și am mintea limpede mă pot gândi cum să te ajut pe tine sau pe cei din jurul meu.
Oare nu este așa? E suficient să vă uitaţi la Bill Gates, care a fondat cea mai mare fundaţie de caritate din lume, și veți fi de acord cu mine.
"Tot ce poate fi digital, va fi"
Sunt în lumea calculatoarelor de multă vreme. Am prins începuturile Internetului în România în 1995-1996 și pot spune că am trăit toate schimbările provocate de noile tehnologii digitale.
Internetul a democratizat și facilitat accesul la informație. Iar presa așa cum o știam până atunci a cam dispărut.
Prin 1999 am văzut primul aparat de fotografiat digital. Avea o rezoluție de un megapixel iar fotografii profesioniști din acea vreme îl considerau un fel de ciudățenie tehnică inutilă. Doar că Internetul și evoluția tehnologică au dus democratizarea fotografiei iar acum sunt mult mai mulți fotografi profesioniști și infinit mai mulți fotografi amatori.
În lumea tiparului, ce să mai spun. Acum 20 de ani abia apăruseră primele imprimante color iar acum aproape oricine poate folosi o imprimantă laser color.
Mai aproape de zilele noastre, după câteva emisiuni culinare realizate în Statele Unite și cu ajutorul Internetului au apărut o pleiadă de tineri chefi care atentează cu real succes la poziția "zeilor bucătăriei" până mai ieri intangibili.
Pe cale de consecință sunt convins că se va întâmpla același lucru cu toate domeniile atinse de tehnologia digitală și mai nou de blockchain.
Lene, lăcomie, egoism și tehnologia blockchain – unde pot duce ?
Ar mai trebui adăugate două lucruri și vom avea imaginea completă a viitorului: descentralizare și economie colaborativă descentralizată.
Democratizarea accesului la capital și la tehnologii de vârf, tehnologia blockchain, economia colaborativă descentralizată și natura umană (așa cum arătam mai sus) vor duce la o revoluție tehnologică cu un impact imposibil de prevăzut – o adevărată "revoluție industrială" a secolului 21.
În acest context SteemRomânia poate și trebuie să fie unul din nucleele ce va declanșa schimbarea modului în care ne raportăm la comunitate, economie, resurse și viitor.
Nu va fi ușor să ne adaptăm la un model pe care nimeni nu l-a pus în aplicare anterior. Va trebui să învățăm din mers și cel mai probabil vor exista destule sincope.
Trebuie să învățăm să colaborăm dincolo de orgoliu și instincte atavice dacă nu vrem să dispărem înghiți de tăvălugul schimbărilor ce vor veni.
Și să nu uităm că în orice revoluție există o contrarevoluție iar "revoluția blockchain" nu va fi scutită de acest aspect.
Misiune
Schimbarea începe cu noi. SteemRomania este locul unde învățăm împreună cum să trăim viitorul.
Viziune
O lume în care vom avea toate resursele necesare pentru crearea de noi oportunități pentru noi și pentru comunitate.
Slogan
Vino cu noi, vom construi viitorul!

Back in 1998 I was doing research in molecular biology, and was only mildly succesful at it. I was already in love with computers and started learning html and Javascript. Then I discovered Perl and read the famous quote of its creator, Larry Wall: "the three virtues of a great programmer are : laziness, impatience and hubris" - your article made me instantly recall that quote.
Greed I also consider to be a great combustible in the engine that leads to progress. I've always thought Gordon Gekko's -"greed is good" speech was wrongly maligned. Too much greed is bad though, just as too much of anything is bad.
Where I have doubts is with Steemromania (and especially with the "romania" part). I know it is extremely hard or almost impossible to accept for some of those who despite all the signs have chosen to stay.
I left the country in 1991 and travelled back at regular intervals. It's been 27 years and unfortunately the rot and putrefaction are still there. I remember the late Silviu Brucan and how scandalized a young me was when I heard him on TV in early 1990 that Romania needed at least 20 years to change. How optimistic he was !
I'm not sure anymore that Romania can change as those who could change it realize that it is in their own self interest to leave. Two "Romanias" seem to exist, populated by people having almost nothing in common except the Romanian language : the country with that name and the "Romanian diaspora", a virtual country.
I'm happy to share the same point of view about sloth, greed, and egoism.
On the other hand, the change must start somewhere. And I'm a kinda guy that still makes artificial respiration, even if the forensic doctor signed the death certificate and the pit was dug.
SteemRomania is currently just an attempt to coagulate a working core. We still have a lot of work to do until we'll be a functional community, but there is the determination to do so. And we'll do it!
Speaking of being still here, I can tell you that there is no reason for me to leave Romania. I am almost 50 years old, my children are on their own feet and one of them is resident in Denmark.
And if I did not leave, I'll try to change something.
That is why I try help to build this community.
I admire you. I've tried several times to come back and see if my help was wanted. It never was. My compatriots kept looking at me as if I had come not to help but to ... "steal their horse" as we used to say back in the times. You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped.
I know exactly what you say. I've been through this. And I also know that if you try to explain to them what and how, they tell you cannot know better than the ones involved.
The hardest thing is to change mentalities. Sometimes it's impossible.
Then speaking about SteemRomania, I think we need people like you. I really wanted the last few days to ask for your opinion.

Indeed, reading this article I thought about Larry Wall's quote too, it fits so well here!
Really didn't get most of the article, apart from the bit at the end about collaboration, which I support wholeheartedly.
That being said, allow me to be a nitpicker for a moment, and correct the wrong assumptions about laziness. We didn't start using horses because we were to lazy to walk, it's because with horses we could get 10 times farther in half the time. We didn't start using animals in the fields because we were lazy, but because an animal could plow a field in a way that a human can't. The plow and the ox are responsible for several billions of people being alive currently. Same with agriculture, you can't sustain a population on that, not one that can develop, not one that can form a civilization. So it's not really a case of laziness, more of a case of progress. Same with machines, they can go above and beyond humans, replacing them entirely if needed in many fields. They can efficiently work faster and with even better skill than the most dedicated and hardworking humans. It's up to the people displaced by machines to not fall into laziness and just mope around the house watching TV all day. If they don't, well, that's laziness.
Back to the matter at hand, supporting each-other is a good way of making sure that we can all succeed on this platform. But I'm not in the "support anyone in the community because this is the community that we support" camp, because there's no barrier for entry in the community, so you get all sorts of people that I don't feel should be supported, people that willfully spread misinformation, discord and resort to bullying others, people that care absolutely nothing about the content, about the creation process, and are just in it to spam copy-pasted articles that they don't even read, and then expect votes and praise.
Discretion is advisable. Especially as the community grows and develops real power to enact change.
I understand your opinion about laziness. I think things are a little more nuanced. Also, I understand that the opinion about greed and selfishness is similar. But let's get over this side.
As for the conditions for joining the community, I do not agree at all. Most likely, we have all made mistakes at first. The role of the community, in this case, is all the more necessary. If someone helps you learn and correct you when you are wrong you do not even have the excuse that you did not know what and how.
The community support is not unconditional. For now, we are still at the beginning. We have a lot to do but we guarantee that we will not support those who do not respect the work of others and want to earn by fraud. Thank you for showing us the possible mistakes that we could make!

Maaaan, trebuie să nu fiu de acord cu partea cu lenea. Deși natura tinde să ne ceară să fim legume, noi trebuie să luptăm să fim mamifere. Asta cu lenea și dacă să zicem, ar fi cum zici tu, ar trebui să facem tot posibilul să o îndepărtăm.
Din nou partea cu comunitatea, mai ales românească, perfect de acord și cred că deja nucleul începe să fie conturat. Totuși, hai să nu "supportăm" orice doar pentru că e cont de RO. Nu înțeleg de unde atâta "bunătate" în comunitatea asta. Trebuie să conteze efortul iar efortul dacă nu se traduce în ceva care mie, cititorul, să-mi aducă un plus valoare (poate fi emoțional, științic, news-worthy etc.) atunci nu votez. Nu voi vota niciodată pe cineva numai pentru că e român sau pentru că face parte dintr-o comunitate. Nici una nici alta nu sunt meritul lui. Scriam pe vremuri pe blogspot și apoi wordpress și să mor, comunitatea de acolo nu avea astfel de gânduri filantropice bazate pe apartenență.
Lacomi și egoiști așa e, toți suntem. Și când dăm bani la cerșători de fapt dăm tot în mod egoist crezând că ne punem bine cu Bărbosul :))
Se pare că avem păreri similare. Cât despre lene, la mine lucrurile sunt ceva mai nuanțate. Poate greșesc dar nu-i totuna să fii leneș și să gândești cu a fi puturos de-a dreptul.

Sunt de acord, schimbarea incepe cu noi, asta este singura metoda de a influenta in mod pozitiv comunitatea, prin actiune proprie. Eu zic ca, nu doar invatam cum sa traim viitorul dar modelam viitorul.
Imi place viziunea, sper sa avem resursele necesare pentru a creea oportunitati, lucrez la partea de resurse chiar acum, dar consider ca avem potential si mai mare de atat, putem chiar schimba vieti. :)
Subscriu la partea cu „modelăm viitorul“. Și eu cred că avem un potențial uriaș. Trebuie doar să scăpăm de paradigma lipsei resurselor. Dacă am reacționa unitar ca și comunitate, nu cred că ar mai fi cineva care să poată nega potențialul. Eu am făcut ceva cercetări în direcția asta ... și sunt absolut convins că putem face multe. Incredibil de multe !
Putem face chiar foarte multe, este doar o chestie de timp dar mai intai trebuie sa ne consolidam ca si comunitate. Eu presimt ca lucrurile o sa se schimbe in bine, curand.

Lenea, lăcomie, egoism... fac parte din natura umană începând de la Adam si Eva încoace. Natura umană poate fi schimbată. Fie prin înțelegerea si acceptarea unei relații cu Dumnezeu care duce la o înțelegere noua a vieții si o schimbare a gândirii (in Biblie se vorbește despre “Metanoia”- schimbarea gândirii) fie prin resursele proprii, ale Sinelui care este educabil ( in zilele noastre exista o sumedenie de cursuri de dezvoltare personală, cărți, google... si in cele din urma tot la o “Metanoia “ se ajunge....) Fiecare e liber sa aleagă calea...
Sunt de acord ca schimbarea începe cu noi. Lucrând de peste 20 de ani in câmpul fundațiilor de caritate, am dorit sa schimbam mentalități si sa învățam oamenii sa pescuiască nu doar sa le oferim pește. Uneori am reușit alteori nu. Pot spune despre mine ca in acești ani am învățat multe si m-am schimbat mult. Important este sa fim deschiși la schimbare si vom avea doar de câștigat.
Subscriu viziunii si sunt de părere ca impreuna e mai bine decât de unul singur.
Sper să vină momentul acela în care vom avea nevoie de experiența ta în zona de caritate.
Eu văd multe oportunități ce derivă din această comunitate. Dar toate la timpul lor.

I am happy tobe part of this technology revolution and i do think we couldn.t be born in other better times. I will resteem your post because i 100% agree with it and i can't wait for our community to evolve a lot. It's a wonderfull world, and i don't believe that it's only about greed..only ones who desire Ferrari and have no other purpose, could be called greedy. I've read somewhere about this laziness thing. I don't agree. Laziness is laziness. Inventions and progress stem from creativity and need of efficiency.
Greed opens the road for corruption, plagiarism and other unethical behaviors. In the context if your post, I see it as a human need for evolution, for striving for more (see Maslow's pyramid of needs).
As for selfishness, well it just comes down to compation, helping others and giving back. If I don't have anything to eat, I'm not going to do charity activities or I will starve. I don't consider that being selfish, but survival.
Building a community on creativity, need of evolution and giving back to those who help you, it is a great idea to strive for. This would be qualitative community. Not all are suited for this. I agree everyone deserves a second chance, but not a third, forth and so on. I've seen this a few times on Steemit. They were told to correct their mistakes to no avail. Spending resources for people that don't want to learn and grow is a waste.
If we judge the moral traits used by me in absolute terms, I do not even agree. But it is always about nuances and in this case, things do not look the same.
As for charity and help, I am one of those who rather offers a fishing tackle and lessons than ready to eat fish. And I'm certainly not helping anyone who does not want to learn. Here It's clear that we are of the same opinion!
Well, even though I don't personally agree with sloth, greed and egoism, I have to admit that your article takes what is good from all of them. It is just a utopia to see all of these evolving in something good. If we think about these concepts and we put them at the core of human evolution you will see that they simply can't match it.
Think for example of some savants that have made this world a better place. Marie Curie for example had barely some food to eat, lost her life making progress in the world of physics and chemistry and all of these for us. She had none of the qualities described here, but she contributed to the advancements of this world.
Actually a lot of the researchers and the people who change this world for better give everything that they have and receive almost nothing back. The rest of us are just living.
That was it, my honest opinion, hope you will accept it as it is.
Everyone has the right to his / her own opinion. If we were all to be of the same opinion, the world would be extremely boring.
About sloth, greed and egoism, I think we can not judge them absolutely. These are nuances. No one is just lazy or greedy or egoist.
It is correct what you say is a utopia to put them at the center of human evolution, but equally utopian would be ignoring them and believing that we can evolve by ignoring them.
