Learning with Attractive Games Methods

Play has a deep biological, evolutionarily important, function, which has to do specifically with learning (Marc Prensky)

One of the biggest challenges that teachers face is capturing students' attention and delivering subject matter to be understood by students. For this to be achieved, then the teacher must master several methods in learning, such as the method with an interesting game.

The game is a fun activity. Each student ever play the game, whether it's a video game or a game in the outdoor.

In the learning process, a creative teacher can apply the game method. This method presents a subject matter through various forms of the game. The games may be designed by the teacher themselves.

Here are some interesting games that can be applied by teachers in the classroom. These games are light games and do not require a large space.

I will give some examples of games in learning Arabic (some games I've done). Why Arabic? Because I am an Arabic teacher. You can adjust to the lessons you teach in the classroom.

  1. Antonym games; the game trains students' hearing to focus on the word the teacher conveys so that it can spontaneously mention the antonym heard.
  2. Whispered the word; the game trains students' hearing sharpness to capture news content and deliver the news to their friends.
  3. Choose the right image; Train students' accuracy in listening to the words spoken by the teacher to match the available images.
  4. Who am I?; students are trained to think, to guess, and use a variety of question words in Arabic.
  5. Guess the word; students practice to ask questions and explore the vocabulary they have to guess one secret word.
  6. Construct words; train students' skills in composing Arabic words of random letters.
  7. Write a letter; train students' ability to focus on listening to words that contain certain letters.

Then, what do we get from a game? Here I summarize Marc Prensky's statement in tabular form.

Games are/have ...That gives us ...
A form of funEnjoyment and pleasure
Form of playIntense and passionate involvement

The benefits of the game method include:

  • Awaken student interest
  • Cultivate and develop a sense of student cooperation
  • Develop student creativity
  • Grow student awareness

This is a brief explanation of learning by game method. Hopefully teachers everywhere can develop some other attractive game methods.

Great works, I wish you success

Yap. That's one of the important thing in teaching. I found it hard to deliver information to my student... Most of the time - especially when they are getting sleepy and it's kinda a sign that my class is boring enough - I start to present it in simulation or game.

But its hard to find a suitable one

Great stuff and You will like the work of Dr. David Jubb check my blog for some recent stuff from him!!!
