Shaping Student Character Through Marching Activities

The marching activity is a positive activity for students. This activity is included in the extra-curricular activities of students. In my school, there are some extracurricular activities, such as boy scouts, youth red bars, drum bands, religious activities, sports, arts activities, science, and line-marching. Especially for marching activities, this activity must be followed by all my students.

In general, this activity is an effort to train the student's character. Because one of the important activity that can shape the character of the student is the marching activity.

Then, how the activity of marching can shape students' character? I summarize some of the benefits students get in this marching activity, i.e:

1. Discipline

I think this is the main aspect. In this activity, students are required to obey the given command. Students are also required to keep their forces in order to remain orderly. Students must maintain their attitude when in a position of line. This means that students should not move or speak without a cue from the leader of the line.

2. Responsibility

When students are in line, they must maintain their respective positions. This means that their position should not move to another position without instruction. Each student has a role and responsibility in the row. Herein lies the responsibility they must bear.

3. Teamwork

In a row, teamwork is absolutely necessary. If their position changes, then the line is not compatible. When students hear the cue from the leader of the line, then all the students who are in the line must follow orders. If there is one person who is in line not following orders, then the line in the group is not balanced. You will see chaos in that unkempt row.

4. Leadership

Another aspect that is not less important is to train leadership. One of the students will be appointed to be the leader of the line. This trustworthy student must be held accountable to the members of his troops. Here, the student has been trained to be a leader who must be prepared to face any risk that will happen.

5. Time Management

Another aspect that is not much different from the discipline is time management. Here students are required to be able to use the time effectively and efficiently. If one member of the troops arrived late, then the position of the line was not perfect.

6. Flexibility

Another benefit of this activity is that students are able to move flexibly. You will see in one line, when they hear the signal, then their movements and attitudes must be in accordance with what is commanded. Here students are required to be ready and alert. The mental exercises gained here are that students will be able to face all future challenges in a ready and alert state.

7. Respect

This line of marching activity is also able to teach students to be respectful to their fellow human beings. Students have been trained to have respect and obedience to their leaders and must also have respect for their subordinates.

Activity marching not only to shape the character of the students but also to train students' physical and mental endurance. With routine follow this activity, students will be an individual who has a strong character, a great physical endurance, and have nerves of steel that is resistant to any situation that suppress it.
