You? Save the World? That's cute ;)

Your immediate environment directly affects your health, happiness, productivity and even sanity. This includes your home, neighborhood, school or work and the other places you frequent on a regular basis. When your environment is out of balance, you suffer.

For instance, if your house is dirty it will attract bugs and they carry diseases, and you will get sick. If your neighborhood is not respected and people throw trash on the streets, property values will go down and this attracts a criminal element to the now cheap housing. Soon, there are drug dealers on the corners and homes are being broken into and it is no longer safe.

Same with the environment of your own body. If you take care of it and keep bad foods to a minimum, you can expect good health and your body will take care of you far longer than if you eat bad, fill it with chemicals or drugs, or never exercise.

Everything you do has a consequence. If you take care of your body it rewards you. When you keep your home and community clean and in shape, it keeps the value high and discourages criminal activity.

It starts with you. You must be the change you wish to see.

This leads to the greater environment. You cannot help save the rainforests across the world if you are not recycling paper products at home. You cannot expect the industrial farms to keep pigs living their lives in crates when you engorge on BBQ pork from unethical or unknown sources.

Every single thing you do has a butterfly effect. It may seem insignificant to get one new paper bag from the grocery store each time you purchase food, but if you shop only once a week- that’s 52 bags. That’s one tree cut from the rainforest. That’s pounds of chemicals poured into the environment. It’s the death of a species from due to destruction from the chemicals and the death of a thousand creatures who made that tree their home because it was their environment.

It’s true that you cannot save the world with one action. But that one action can mean the world to many.

A circle is perfectly balanced. When you contribute to the balance of the circle of life, you are making a difference.

And that makes you pretty cute in my eyes :)

You know, I think we ALL make a difference... people tend to get a little apathetic because they don't feel like their contribution is "big" (like ending hunger or finding a cure for cancer) so they fall into the trap of thinking they don't matter. Not true! We all matter!

You are 100% correct- each and every thing we do matters 100%!

I may not personally find a cure for cancer, but I allow a university to use my computers power remotely to research cures when I am not using it. They would not be able conduct such vast amounts of research if it wasn't for each of us random humans who give them access to our PC's!

It's nothing to me. But everything to the cure.

Everything does have a butterfly effect and a lot can just be a small change to someone else's life. But doing good to change small things can help a lot.

Absolutely true :) That's why I like to smile, at everyone. Ever since I was little I just have this thing where even if I am having a bad day, I smile to all humans I make eye contact with. It may change their day. Did you happen to read my suicide story a month ago?

Edit: Not my suicide, but the piece I did about a true suicide?

Worries you are a ghost now
Haha of course not yours silly. :)
Um, I don't remember, I think I did back then when I wasn't as busy.
Was that the one about someone walking and smiling, and if they got a smile back they wouldn't do it but nobody smile back?

Yes, the girl walked 6 miles to the bridge. When the coroners found her note the next day, it said she wouldn't jump if only one person smiled at her along the way...

It is tragic that not many smile these days, though a lot would be worried they would get killed or something just for smiling at the wrong person.

@arbitrarykitten knows that @stokjockey is a Big Fan. I have not yet met the Kitten in real life but I know if I do I will know Her by Her Beautiful SMILE !

One day it has to be......

very true, when we go for walks we tend to pick up trash along the way just to throw away in a bin a little further. people can be so careless sometimes.
not just with the earth but also with their body
i just wrote something similar but concerning the meat industry

So true, it is overwhelming to think of all that needs to be saved, improved, made better, .....but those day to day things I add up to something that hopefully becomes what the collective consciousness evolves to

Exactly :)

The chain reaction must start somewhere...

"If your neighborhood is not respected and people throw trash on the streets, property values will go down and this attracts a criminal element to the now cheap housing. Soon, there are drug dealers on the corners and homes are being broken into and it is no longer safe."

Uuummmm.... generalisation much? These kinds of things have a few more factors involved than what you're suggesting.

And just a tad over-simplified and condescending too.

However the point you make in the bigger picture is fair.

We just discussed this very thing in the county's Urban Youth Initiative group meeting. You are correct, it is most definitely a small part of a much larger picture, but every little bit counts. The point is one person can make a difference- it may not seem like it sometimes but your seemingly small action can have a huge impact. Not meant to be condescending in the slightest, on the contrary, it is to begin an internal dialogue. By starting small, by picking up and throwing out the trash in your own life, you begin a chain reaction. Only then can you move on to the surrounding environment: home, then the neighborhood, and on and on.

Start small, it's the only place one can begin anyway ;)

Qigong, aye? You are the first I have met here on Steemit :) I have been practicing since before high school.

Thanks for this post. I totally agree. We really need to start looking after the world more. Reuse and recycle ♻️ guys 😉
