Today, I Chose Steemit Over WordPress
That's really saying something for me. I am a staunch WordPress fan, and I've been using that platform for more than a decade. I mean I can sit on the porch and reminisce about the good ol' days of having to install your themes and plugins via FTP.
I have a blog that's 4 years old with about 70 articles on it in the "make money online" niche that's spent the majority of its life just sitting between sporadic periods of me posting on it. See, I have a lot of knowledge about WordPress and Internet marketing, but I suck horribly at being consistent.
Thus, a 4-year-old blog with 70 posts that is doing nothing, especially not "making money online".
Pardon Me While I Try to Justify Being a Crappy Blogger
I'm old...er, older, y'all. I'm in my 40s and I don't have the time or patience to write in the hopes that something might happen. You know, the trial and error portion of life is past for me, or I subconsciously feel it should be. Not to mention the insane volume of stuff I've read, courses I've taken, and money I've spent to find success.
I know I'm not that horrible at this Internet thing because I can do any of the above for clients and find decent success. I just can't seem to do it for myself without some sort of guaranteed incentive.
Enter Steemit.
Yes, I'm aware that Steemit is not a guaranteed incentive, but the potential that it might be seems to suffice. So...
Call Me Crazy, But...
even in light of the current problems occurring here on Steemit and my knowledge of some of the more complex problems around here, I've decided to shut down that blog , and shift any poor focus I might have been giving it here to Steemit.
If Steemit explodes tomorrow, I can always save the blog before the domain expires or fire up a new one. I back up all my Steemit posts that mean anything to me anyway, so no loss there.
In fact, I don't see where I have anything to lose with this move at all. Steemit has pretty much been my main blog since I started writing here anyway. I think the problems will eventually iron themselves out. This place is too cool, and there are too many others who have put all their eggs here (I know, not smart, but easily insured) for it to fail.
I have a few accounts on other social sites paying in crypto, and none of them hold a candle to Steemit in any way, shape, or form.

Every time I try to use WordPress I get frustrated and give up. I'm no tech guy and it's too complicated for me- I can never get it to do what I want!
I'm completely self-taught. I Googled my way through it and drew from my experience with a couple other platforms.
I know what you mean though. Earlier this year, I tried out Shopify, and I actually ditched it because I just didn't feel like learning a new platform.
Well, having your own blog can be much more financially rewarding. But, you really have to work it. Search engine optimize it. And get really good and appropriate affiliate links on it or really good ads that are relevant.
Or basically, you find something to sell, then you make a blog about it.
And for lots of us, that just isn't our mental process.
So, why pay for a server to idly sit there?
Steemit doesn't cost money sitting there. In fact, it has the potential to make pennies for decent, but sporadic posting. And more, if you can get the following and pump out the content.
I agree whole-heartedly! Everything you said is spot on. Thanks for taking the time to leave your thoughts.
Very impressive post, i'm in my 40s age also I believe we share a lot, also I have developed a social network website using Wordpress's though since 6 years and now I am in steemit and now I am in steemit.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
