How Much Is Your 100% Vote Worth?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I  was doing post promotion of one of my posts last night in steemit.chat  and came across a post title that captured my interest. The title is - Steemit Voting Slider! So much fun! by @rawpride. I could feel the excitement he had while  he was writing that post. In response to his post, I congratulated him on becoming a minnow with a little over 1 million vests / 500 SP. He was able to start using the voting slider, because of the new milestone he had achieved. Now, I didn't go ahead to start asking him, how much is your vote worth? That is what my curiosity and inquires are all about in this post.

Before HardFork 19

Steemit hardfork (hf) 19 happened on the 20th of June, 2017 (about 2 months ago). The hardfork /upgrade of the steemit algorithm code named - Equality, was done to improve linear rewards by about 400% . My vote before the hardfork was worth $0.16.

After HardFork 19

Immediately after hf 19, my vote was worth almost $5 . The price of steem  in the coin market at that time too was getting to $3. Now, two months later, with 5,393 steem power (SP), my full voting power(100%) is not even up to $1.

Some Factors Affecting Vote Worth

I think that there are some factors affecting your vote's worth in this current era of hf 19. These are

Steem Power .  The more steem power you have, the greater will be your vote's worth.

Value of  Steem . The value of steem per time in the coin market is another factor that will affect vote worth

I would really like to give more to the people whose content I curate, especially the redfish in @redfishpillar . So, I'm seriously considering getting some delegated steem power (DSP) in order to achieve my goals.

Thank you for this simple and informative post. In the past few days the price of steem has been on the decrease, but that is crypto world. Soon the market will be on the high again. But I will like to ask, how can DSP be fully utilized to recover the amount spent in getting the DSP?

Thanks for the commendation @turpsy. Glad to see you here .Regarding your question about DSP. I really don't know how it works, since I am yet to try using it. However, a veteran Steemian told me that I'll be able to recover the money spent in getting DSP. Steem on!!!

Thank you for your response. I like to read post that adds to me in one way or the other. That will be good then, if one can get returns on such investment.

Mine is really worth very little @maryfavour! Only 0.03 cents at 100%! I hope to power up soon, but it is quite complicated to buy some steem from my country!
I've tried on many platforms , but can't do it!
Would be great if we can have someone make a simple step by step on how to, this will surely help us out!
Thanks
@progressivechef

Ah welcome, @progressivechef! Congratulations on your $0.03 vote at 100%!!! That is not an easy feat to attain you know. It means that you have about 200 SP, I think. Yes, please power up pretty soon. We need loads of SP to be able to enjoy rewards generated from this platform. I'm surprised to learn about the complication to buy steem in your country. If you have SBDs in your account, then you can easily convert them to steem and then ''power up'' that steem. Ok. I have some videos already that shows step by step how to power up your steemit account with fiat (local) currency. The video I need to make ASAP is how to convert SBDs to steem. Let me know if there is any other video you would like me to make for steemit newbies. From time to time, check on me at @redfishpillar. I hope to be doing there on request for newbies. Cheers.

Oh yes, really very hard to reach that level! I have infact 400+ SP now, i power up all my earnings! Once I can buying from my credit/debit card, i will power up more, but i can't do it right now, very limited in my country!
Oh yes I will be checking you @redfishpillar too, can i be a member too?
Thanks for much for your reply!
@progressivechef

Immediately after Hardfork 19, my vote was worth $0.17. Two months after, just like yours, just that its quite smaller; it's worth $0.03 at 100% VP. Sometimes, its worth 1 cents.

Although everyone says it's not just about the money, I'll be glad to do everything possible to increase the value of my voting power.
Hehehe... I don't do self upvote so its for a good cause.

I've been seeing people talk about delegation.

How do I get delegation and what are the responsibilities attached?
I hope I'm not boring you out with my question already!

My vote at 100% is very valuable depending on who gets it. Well, to put it in figures it's only worth one cent for now but that one cent may worth more to a person in a developing country than in a developed economy or to a person with less resources than the one belonging to an affluent class. Apart from the monetary value, I also have a rep score of about 50. So it would be more valuable to some one with a lower rep score than a higher rep score bearing person. And there is another value attached to my vote ....emotional value & the bonding it may create on the issue being discussed. I think I should stop here 😊

But yes, I always make use of this tool to evaluate my profitability before I use any whale bot for upvoting my posts. And it works perfectly. The only thing I find a little difficult is to adjust its slider to the exact point. It to takes some time. And it doesn't give the voting weight percentage value to decimal places. Otherwise it's a great tool and I use it daily. Recently, I found out that we can make a precise calculation by using its calculator tool here.

I'd also like to add here for those red fishes who wanna have some fun to get a vote slider even if they are not minnows yet, they can use esteem app. And you can control your vote-weight up to two decimal places. However I don't use it as I access Steem blockchain from my desktop.

@maryfavour - Though Steemit is not all about upvotes and money, the voting power and vote worth is an essential part of building our own reputation as well as supporting other authors good content through upvotes. Therefore, all of us must be aware of the voting worth. I was already using Steemnow but your article puts a good spotlight on the fact. It will help newcomers. Thanks. Upvoted

if people really know this things then i think they will start voting well instead of voting people with things like 0.1% and some people will even vote with 0.05%, how annoying it could be. Thanks for sharing Ma, I just hope more people will read this and know that their vote is affected by so many factors because personally I feel such people are not just being nice.

Lol, while walking this morning, i then remembered a day I saw an upvote with 0.1% on my post. I didnt count it, i assume the voter decided that is the best he could give at that time. Anyway, it was funny.

it could be annoying my dear.

Most of the time my votes are just worth 1 cent. If I am rather inactive then up to 3. I tend to just vote a lot and toss it out like free candy during a parade.

Thank you for sharing that wonderful site. I really like all the data it gives.

Thanks, @enjar. It's always a pleasure to have your wonderful views on issues. Let me begin by congratulating you on your 1 cent vote!!! That's a milestone achievement in the sense that if you didn't have 100 SP and above, it would have been difficult to be able to give out 1 cent. Like you stated, if you are somewhat inactive or leave your voting power to get to between 90 % and 100%, then full votes worth of 3 cents can be achieved. Interesting finding! I like the expression of ''tossing votes like free candy''. That is what I love to do too, but Hf 19 limits us to 10 full voting power daily, instead of 40 that we had before the hardfork. Oh, thank you. A newbie introduced me to the steemnow platform and I like the data like you do too. Steem on!!!

So around 11 votes a day and you can stay in the 80-90% and thus where I get my 3 cent voters if I do. If I want to vote 40 times a day like I do my power just gets drained to around 10-20%. The higher your voting power the more % you lose on it per vote. The lower it is the less you lose per vote. You gain 20% of your voting power back each day. Thus even if I vote 40 times a day and I’m drained down to 10% over a few days I’ll still regain 20% that day and more then 11ish votes its more around 40.

I hope that helps and makes more sense. I know for a while I was sticking to just 10 votes a day as well. Its nice not being forced to unless you like giving out the bigger upvotes.

Hmm...@enjar, this is giving me a deeper insight into how voting power functions in this hf 19 era. I am interested to know how you came about this '' The higher your voting power the more % you lose on it per vote. The lower it is the less you lose per vote.''

@timcliff wrote this a while back explaining voting. I hope it helps. It helped me change my views on voting per day.

https://steemit.com/minnowsupportproject/@timcliff/minnow-voting-it-is-still-ok-to-vote-40-times-a-day

I cannot thank you enough, @enjar, for providing this link to @timcliff's post. Just read it from start to finish and have a better understanding of how voting works for minnows. You guys are lucky! As a dolphin, I dare not try that voting spree method, if I decide to cast 100% vote on 10 good posts. However, I constantly adjust my voting slider button to be able to vote on both author's content and some comments, especially those on my blog page.

You really have a good knowledge of this. Like you wrote and I laughed,

toss it out like free candy during a parade.

I will toss my own little for your contribution, I actually learned from your analysis.

Thanks for sharing this @maryfavour. I never new my upvoting activities has this much value until I read your post. I will keep these points in mind henceforth.

Very informative. Please ma'am I would like you to provide answer to the question asked by @turpsy. I am interested

Thanks for the commendation, @eurogee! It means a lot to me. I've provided an answer to the question asked by @turpsy. Please see response. Keep the steem fire burning!

Yes seen. Thanks for providing an answer. Of course I will keep steeming: this is my vocational heaven😝

It's good to know that steemit is your vocational heaven. Lol! Well done, @euro! Enjoy.

Hi Mary. I think at full power I'm 8 cents lol. I'm also powering down a little for the first time.

Hello, @bearbear613! That is quite interesting to know that your full power vote is worth 8 cents. Congratulations!!! Well, if you power down now, it might take a little while before you build SP again to get to minnow level (1 million vests/about 500 SP). The option of DSP is there, though. Thanks for this useful information of your vote's worth.
