Hello, my fellow minnows and veterans of the "game"
This could be a sensitive topic for some Steemians, maybe I'm wrong... Maybe I'm just going over board with it but what the heck... I'll give it a try!
So obviously all of us are familiar with the "follow per follow" game, and some think its cool other ones think it's not. I think it's not cool. For Steemit.com to become some child's game. I understand the minnow mindset going into it. I really do. I already spoke about it, and I think these first days or weeks are super important for you "general" reputation in the community. That number stuck in your account, tho it looks cool, one can still be " @idiot ".
Yeah, I said it!
These first weeks will show a lot, most minnows do all the wrong things I guess. They see huge $ on a post of veterans and they see a bunch of followers. All they do is go on a "copy/paste" rampage and go in the "1Follower/10Following" mode.
NOT GOOD!
After they make their "following", start posting the shortest f&%&%$% post with 1% value to the community. A few days are in denial about it, how is this possible? I only have 0.03$ on my post?!?!

Yeah, all this happens after only a week or so, people remember stuff...

But before that just a few words how the idea for this post was born. I guess we all have our different ways or opinions on, who and why would one follow them.

The Stranger - Is this encounter so difficult?
"What just happened here?"
My way is usually random post browsing and I also like to check some other stuff from the author I wanna follow, just in case. Obv, reputation helps make that decision easier.
BUT I DO give a chance to every cool person I meet in the comment section if I do not have the time to check on them ASAP... That being said, I have a list of people who I recently followed up and try to check on them in the future days.
Some are happy about it, and they follow back. I appreciate it, people, I really do. But that is NOT MY POINT!
As I go through the list a find myself in a weird position sometimes. Seein the person who I had a cool chat with just might not be the person I need in my feed.
Might be a cool author who brings fresh and useful stuff to the community and much love and huge props for that! On the other hand:
If everybody followed everybody, how would that look like?
Is it fair for me to follow someone who brings things to the table that I'm just not into?
Not, in my opinion.
We should curate among "us", by that I mean you should curate to authors who are on your daily "menu" plus find yourself new ones who will bring new enlightenment and joy to your life and everyday tasks. Or whatever are you looking for of course!

If you follow me and you "enjoy" my daily blogs and stuff or at least you check them out, why is the reason ME UNfollowing you for you to UNfollow me?
Are you a mad, "envy", hypocrite person who will not let another person succeed or at least try not to be a part of it? I dunno, and you do not know, maybe I'm the next big thing "Ha Ha" and my vote will be Whale-size one day and make you ๐into the sky

Everybody, work hard on your posts and you will definitely find your circle of people who will enjoy it. AND PLEASE do not hate on me if I'm not one of those people. I try to support Steemit.com and will promote it in the best possible way and with that I in many ways help you as well, right?

Listen, let your cool post speak for you, or your cool comment also. Do not take a glance at the other person post and just type some short "topic" related stuff.(SOMETIMES short is the best:) Read and comment on things that got you going or something, I dunno. Following will come, it just takes some time! I sometimes pick into Whale๐ณwallets and I see tons of "begging" for an upvote, you will not buy a Whale for cents...

Unfortunately downvoting drains your energy as well - otherwise I would downvote all of those shitty comments. It is just so obvious that they didn't even read the first paragraph of your text.
On the other hand it might be good that downvoting costs energy. Otherwise there would be tons of people who vote everything down.
I am really excited on how steemit will develop in the future. Good content is so rare to find since 90%+ just is useless spam.

Sup bro! I have 5 days here and I saw all what you said from the start and the first thing that came in to my mind was not taking that approach. Although I hesitated at first because the competition here is not normal I finally ended up resolving that I'm just going to be my f%%#$&# self! and you know what, even though I'm not making money nor getting upvotes from the whales -my articles don't get that much of attention...yet- I'm actually having fun. I've learned more here in one week by reading quality articles than a whole year in Reddit. I like commenting posts and making friends, I don't have that many followers but most of the ones I got are quality followers and that's the big Idea, isnt' it? having fun while making some bucks! I think the general idea behind it is that, if I've given you a shot, you should give me a chance in return. If I cease to entertain you than fine... unfollow. But I've found that sometimes people are just too into themselves to do it on their own. Now, I'm not going to force anyone to do anything, nor will I call them out if they unfollow me, but if I've commented and or up voted on 3 of your posts and you haven't even commented on mine...I'm not fucking with you you anymore. Some points I'll make. I usually comment where I post (which isn't usually in these tags), so most of he time people could easily read and relate an idea on what I have said. Also, I often (though not always) express a no holds barred approach to commenting on my stuff. I don't care if you think it sucks...tell me why. I'm cool with it. I'm not saying I won't defend it, but I can guarantee you my feelings won't be hurt over it.
Usually, minnows wanna shot at a dolphin or a whale...
They would then have to follow a million people:P
Sometimes it's hard to check on everybody, I just go with
my feeling or I just remember... I guess that is expectable?

I see your point. I know that feeling of guilt not really wanting to follow someone that followed reesteemed and even upvoted and their comment says please follow. I just smile because I remember what the white papers warned about when I first signed up. Yet if they followed me then I know I'll get around to checking their blog out. I do my best to go through my followers list. I'm only 35 days into steemit so I know they will probably be the ones seeing my post.
There's a learning curve on steemit. #steemit seems to be the tag with the highest paid amounts. There are so many how to's and theories posted it takes a while to figure out what works best, not to mention the community is growing fast. I smile at newbie mistakes cause I know others will put them in place. Yet anyone that reads your post will have no excuse, and woe to them that don't and just comment. Lol Thanks for sharing.

hello kid4life...You must have been reading my mind when you wrote this post!! I was thinking about all the hard work I have put in my posts and time dedicated to actually "reading" others post. I was thinking about how I could possibly better spend my time making more products for my farmer's market business as I get paid $10.00 a jar for a jar of pepper jam which was more than I had earned here. I was thinking, heck I could just take that money and buy steem instead of earning pennies on one post. Also, when I read some of the reply's I get, It is obvious that they haven't even bothered to read my post. Just a simple I followed you, now you follow me. I was ready to write one last post entitled "Give me one good reason to stay here." Well, kiddo, you did just like that and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping me from making the worst mistake of my life. My motto has always been, "respect can't be bought, it has to be earned." You have earned my utmost respect. Now I will get back to editing my video interviews with my community, upload them to steem, copy the link and email them to them like I promised and move on to do more interviews. ALOHA and MAHALO! Btw, you have earned the right to call me Annie. #whalepower!!

Good stuff. Even as a recently returned 'Steemian' I have to agree with you. Following someone just because they are following you seems a bit pointless to me. Fair enough if their content is appeals to me but otherwise it is indeed like a schoolkids popularity contest. I will like and follow the posts and Steemians whom I discover that interest me. Hopefully, in time, others will also do the same for me.
