Keeping up with the Joneses!
Have you ever felt the strong desire to try keep up with your peers around you? or experienced FOMO?

On Steemit, as in most other places in life, we often feel the need to keep up with those around us. Sometimes this is a healthy competition where we are trying to keep up with, or most likely surpass, our peers.
Sometimes, however, we wind up trying to keep up with a "whale". This type of ambition can be dangerous. Some people get the wrong impression that they will be able to compete with a whale right away, especially if they have a "successful" first post. Frequently, a very well written first post with interesting content will result in a $50+ payout. This may also lead to false expectations.

The best/most common way to grow in the community is to build your reputation, build a following, be active in the community through commenting and resteeming other useful/interesting posts, and provide useful and/or interesting content to your followers!
The same thing applies to Trading CryptoCurrency .. Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)
So many people in the Steemit Community have been around the Crypto life for over a year. If you consider that fact in all of the Crypto posts that you read, you will begin to understand how they are so positive and hopeful about Cryptocurrencies. Check out the chart below and just look at the ridiculous growth in Bitcoin between January 2016 and January 2017!
An important life lesson is to take everything in moderation. This includes advice from others, no matter how smart or reliable they may be.

Another important life lesson is that there's no such thing as a "sure thing" in life. Always do your own research about any financial decision that you make.
Because in the end, any financial decision that you make should be something that you're willing to live with for the rest of your life, owning the decision that you make.

Indeed! I have had a few good paying posts, but they definitely aren't all like that. I try to just keep a good perspective on it all, and remember that getting paid for sharing my content is amazing in and of itself!
Completely! This platform tends to reward consistency and loyalty, since that is how one is most likely to grow a following.
Once you have the following, you hope that those people stay consistent and loyal to the platform, and grow alongside you. As you all grow, all of your posts gain value together! It's a great concept :)
