May 30 Days Writing Challenge - Day Four: What Are The Top 5 Most Relevant Witnesses On Steemit? Why?

in #steemit6 years ago

Welcome to the fourth day of the May 30 days writing challenge. If you don't know what this challenge is about, please have a look at the introductory post. Also, at the end of each article I will post the links to all the posts in the challenge (if you're joining the challenge, I encourage you to do the same). Also, if you join, don't forget to tag your post with #challenge30days and also leave a comment with the link of your post, so I can evaluate if you're one of the 3 lucky Steemians that will get a full upvote from me.

I'm very happy with how this challenge went so far and it seems that having pre-arranged topics is working way better than just going with the flow. Before diving into today's topic, I would like to congratulate each and every one of you who joined: even if you won't see some immediate results (like higher payouts), the mere activity of writing each and every day for 30 days in a row will make you a better writer. Also, by interacting with other people for this time window, you will definitely hone some much needed social skills.

Now, let's get back to the topic of the day.

What Are The Top 5 Most Relevant Witnesses On Steemit? Why?

That's a very delicate topic, I agree. Not only because it's ultimately about personal preferences, which don't have to be explained (that's why they are personal, after all), but also because the entire concept of witnesses is very, very new and it's still developing.

But I will still try my hand at it, even if my choices may seem surprising to you.

But, before giving you my selection, please have a look at this article if you're new to Steemit and don't know what a witness is and why you should always vote for witnesses.

@jesta

I think the contribution of @jesta to this ecosystem is by far the most consistent, albeit the least popular of all. He is behind some of the most interesting spin-offs on top of the Steemit blockchain, and yet, very few people know about him. For instance, he is the creator of http://steemdb.com, the maker of the Vessel wallet (the only cross-platform stand-alone STEEM wallet that I know of, so far) and he was behind the now defunct http://chainbb.com. If you look at the witnesses list on steemd.com, you will see @jesta most of the time on the first position.

Now you know why.

@smooth.witness

I got familiar with @smooth around a year ago, when I started to frequent the steemit.chat rooms. He seemed like the most balanced voice around and one of the most knowledgeable persons in the rooms. We had a major misunderstanding a little over a year ago, but that doesn't minimize in any way his contribution to this project. Oh, and in case you don't know, @smooth is one of the biggest liquidity providers on the internal market (sometimes, when you sell on the internal market, you will see the order is filled by @smooth.team, or something like that).

I consider him relevant because he is part of the "checks and balances" that are keeping this system from tilting too dangerously.

@yabapmatt

I don't know personally @yabapmatt, but we did exchange comments quite a few times. He came across like a very knowledgeable person and also very dedicated. I consider him relevant because he fills the profile of an independent, technical savvy witness, who can always step in to solve a problem and keep his nodes up without missing nodes. It's worth noting that there are at least 5-6 witnesses in top 50 with the same profile, but, for some reason, I chose @yabapmatt as being the most relevant.

@curie

This was the first curation guild I bumped into, back when I joined Steemit. If you are a consistent author, you've been helped more than once by this curation trail and you know it. I consider this type of witness, one that can do clever and balanced curation, indispensable for this project. As you know, @curie specializes only on newcomers, helping them getting around the platform, but I can easily see specialized curation trails (think of it like a much more "human" voting bot) on various topics.

@utopian-io

This is probably one of the most recent successful projects in the Steemit ecosystem. Basically, @utopian-io rewards Open Source contributions, and does this in a very professional way, with a team of editors, well defined roles and so on and so forth. Yes, there are still a lot of things to be done in order to make Utopian a great project, but even in this stage, I consider this witness type - a consistent content-related service - very relevant to the Steemit community.

Ok, now it's your turn. Please make sure to link your post in the comments, so I can check it out.

Hmmm, I won't be participating in this one. Your post is very interesting in the witnesses you chose and in the contributions that they have made, like Yabapmatt who has one-handedly brought bid-bots to a new level, Utopian with their super big platform... And I don't know the other two, Smooth and Jesta, but Curie has been helping the people I know for a while and they are indeed pretty big.

But... this is too politicised and, on one hand, I could talk about my preferences, and that would make them not really the most "relevant on Steemit" but the most "relevant for Sharon". And even then, I don't want to bring hostilities. Flag wars going around, showing preference for some Witnesses is bound to bring bad eyes from other Witnesses, now or later when my account has grown.

I don't think it would be convenient to participate. Sorry! I was really eager to write the full 30 days.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much as long as you don’t attack anyone. I’m very verbal in my dislike for bidbots, I started the #nobidbot tag and I’ve yet to have been flagged by anyone. I was even directly upvoted by bidbot from its owner despite all this. People general just don’t like to feel like they are being threatened. It’s a post about who you think is relevant (for me I wrote who’s I thought was good for the community, not necessarily creating good apps) not wbout who you dislike or don’t support. If that was the question, I’d probably be nervous to answer...I’d probably still do it though.

There have been people who have disregarded my posts because they saw that I use bidbots, and as far as curations go, very few minnow curations would support someone like me who has around $35 in upvotes per post, regardless of whether it's from upvotes or not.

I've also seen people claim that bidbot users are destroying the platform, but it's only natural that people will use them if they're the only way of reaching the front page without big votes.

Anyway, I already didn't participate. I'll go for the next posts in the challenge. :) <3

what about giving it a try?

I don't know enough about the platform to throw around names about whom I think is relevant. It would end up in me calling the names of the few witnesses I know, which are really very few, and in a few months or years, my opinions and the side I chose could close many doors for my future. So no, I don't think that it would be convenient to try.

It's ok no problem :)
Good to know that you know what is good for you :)
God bless you <3

@abdulmanan bhai kuch pochna tha please

yes bro, ask what you wanna ask?

Bro let me know Can I make Post of First Challenge in which made post that you have mentioned above @abdulmanan

Yes you can, i think @dragosroua will allow this.
I'm also a late participant.

Bro I want to ask I have to make post on 30 challenge & can I make post on first day challenge please tell me @abdulmanan

@dragosrous will let you know about it!
can we start the challenge from start or we will have to follow the schedule.

not really the most "relevant on Steemit" but the most "relevant for Sharon".

I think that's exactly what I was looking for: whats the most relevant for each person. Please keep in mind I didn't say: "best" witness, or "relevant".

I agree this is politicised, but this is the very nature of DPoS. It's not a perfect system, but at least it's better than PoW, where all it matters is computing power.

I would be really curious to see how you see witnesses...

I've tried to start to write the article 3 times and made a couple outlines, but it's just too politicised a topic to discuss overtly without fear of repercussions in the future or without hypocrisy out of convenience. I'll leave it like this. I'll keep writing on the other ones. :(

Hmm, now you made me think. In all honesty, I think you may project some of your current fears onto this system. Yes, you are obviously biased (and so am I and everybody on the platform), but that doesn't mean you will be punished for speaking your mind.

As a person who lived 19 years under a communist regime, I understand very well your fears. I also think, based on my one and a half year experience here, that Steemit is not even remotely similar with what we experienced under those totalitarian regimes, although sometimes seems / looks like / is unfair.

I respect your choice.

Steem on!

You too, Mr Dragos, Steem on, and thanks for the cool topics to talk about. :)

And yeah, I might be projecting my fears, since I've lived already 20 years under a communist/socialist regime, like you. I've seen Twitter users dragged to jail for opposing the government, and worse, and I'm sure you're familiar with similar things.

So maybe it's just the way I see the world that has passed into this new environment where it may perhaps not be as justified. But I do see Bernie punishing all who talk slightly bad about him, similar to Rancho. I've seen so many accounts be lost in blacklists because of their support for one side or the other, and even for being against or for other parties, like all of Noganoo's friends (whose posts are all greyed-out now), etc.

Who knows if by saying I support certain witness I'll get destroyed by a witness who hates them. I know a few of these hated witnesses, and one of them is in my vote list, but if I spoke for him or others similar to him, I might bring those that flag them onto my posts.

And even then, I've been treated badly for using bidbots. I know that most people are neutral and respect the decision of others, but there are some who don't, so if I spoke for Yabapmatt, for example, or for Adsactly, or any other witness whom I looked positively once, I might be choosing the "wrong side" and rejecting the support that I might have gotten by another side if I had not supported this one.

Anyway, I'll leave it at this. <3 Thank you again for the challenge. My second post got around $7 in organic votes and I'm very thankful for the opportunity to earn the support of the community that I love.

Thanks for this Initiative but sir In this challenge we can write only for above mentioned witnesses or which I want please tell me @dragosroua

You should answer to the question: What Are The Top 5 Most Relevant Witnesses On Steemit? Why?. Obviously, you should write about your preferred witnesses.

All right & thanks for Guidance sir @dragosroua

Nice post. I'm staying out of today's as well but looking forward to the rest of the month.

I got to write this early today!! yay! Here is my personal why I voted for 5 of the witnesses.
https://steemit.com/steemit/@mariannewest/5-witnesses-and-my-why-day-4

This was by far the hardest topic to date, but hopefully what I wrote makes sense. Thanks for providing a subject to write about. Here's the link.

It's not that I'm participating in your contest. But I do have a brilliant pointer for anyone that does participate.

Include @dragosroua in your top5 😁

I have written about the reason on who my 30 witness votes are andI have to think who the 5 most relevant witnesses to me

Here is my post https://steemit.com/steemgigs/@maverickinvictus/discuss-what-are-the-top-5-most-relevant-witnesses-on-steemit-why

Thank you for your witness selection on today challenge post. It helps to get to know those witnesses which others value the most and why.
I am not enough experienced in the platform to know the reasons to choose 5 witnesses.
So far I have voted for those I have been in touch for any reason and you are one of them :)
