Weekly Review - Vivo Indian Premier League Twenty20 Cricket

in #steemit6 years ago

Hi Everyone

In no time, we are into fourth week of IPL 2018 and here is a recap of matches held in third week.

This was the week in which Christopher Henry Gayle, The Universal Boss announced that he is still good enough to play those blistering knocks by scoring yet another T20 century against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 19th April, thus becoming the first centurion of IPL 11. 3 days later, Shane Watson showed that experience does matter by scoring a century against Rajasthan Royals. By doing so, Shane Watson became the first IPL player to score a century for and against a team(Rajasthan Royals). There was that scintillating knock of 90 not out by AB De Villiers of 39 balls to help RCB register their second win out of five matches.

On the bowling side, Deepak Chahar playing for Chennai Super Kings is proving to be a worthy buy and can be an bowling option for India in future if nurtured well.

Below are my previous reviews of IPL 2018:

Except CSK and RCB, all other teams have completed 6 matches each and RCB and CSK will be playing their 6th match today in Bangalore.

Let's see how each team fared last week.

1. Chennai Super Kings:

CSK have improved their game and the combination of players to win 4 out of 5 matches played so far, though they are stripped of their home advantage of playing in Chennai.

They played 2 matches in last week, one of which was against Rajasthan Royals and with continued consistent performance from Shane Watson, CSK handed a loss to RR.

Their second match of the week was against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad and CSK overcame the stiff challenge from SRH by defending their score of 182 as SRH could only score 178 while chasing. The credit of that win goes to Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina with the bat and young Deepak Chahar with the bowl as Chahar took 3 quick wickets in the beginning of Hyderabad's innings and didn't give a chance to Hyderabad to recover.

CSK with those 2 wins has maintained their top 4 ranking and they are right now trailing Kings XI Punjab, who are the toppers with 5 wins from 6 matches.

2. Delhi Daredevils:

Delhi Daredevils vows with bat and bowl continued in third week as well as they lost both their matches against KKR and RCB by huge margins.

In their match against KKR, Delhi won the toss and elected to field and allowed KKR to score 200 thanks to blistering knocks from Andre Russell, Nitish Rana and Chris Lynn. Delhi didn't have a good start and only Pant and Maxwell could reach 2 digit scores and Delhi folded out for 129 giving KKR a huge win.

Their match against RCB wasn't different as they scored 174 after put into bat by RCB and it was Rishabh Pant's heroics which helped them to reach that score of 174 but still end on a loosing side as the RCB's AB De Villiers outscored Pant by scoring 90 of 39 balls and helped RCB chase the score in 18 overs.

Delhi continues to be at the bottom of the table with 1 win out of 6 matches played. Their overseas players needs to stand up and deliver if DD has to make it to playoff.

3. Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab sitting pretty at the top of points table with 5 wins from 6 matches.

They played against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders and won both comfortably.

Their match against SRH was dominated by Chris Gayle with a century and SRH couldn't chase the score and had their first loss of this IPL.

Second match against KKR was a rain curtailed match and a target of 126 in 13 overs (after KKR scored 191 in their quota of 20 overs) easily achieved by KXIP, although the Duckworth Lewis par score attracted much criticism.

Kings XI continues to be at the top of the table and looks to be the team to beat. Gayle and KL Rahul are in good form and that should augur well for KXIP.

4. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders had 3 matches in week 3, winning 2 and loosing 1.

Their match against DD was a one sided affair as DD were bowled out for 129 while chasing 200 set by KKR. KKR's bowling continues to be among the strongest.

KKR's match against Rajasthan Royals was on KKR's side as they chased the target of 161 set by RR and it was a collective batting effort from KKR including the one from Sunil Narine.

Their match against KXIP was hit by rain and KXIP were handed an easy score to chase as part of D/L method. The D/L method went for a scrutiny by KKR's captain Dinesh Karthik.

KKR continues to be among the top 4 and have 3 wins from 6 games, they need to up their game as RR, RCB and Mumbai are following them closely.

5. Mumbai Indians:

Mumbai Indians continues to be among the bottom 2 teams although had their first win of the tournament in their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore as part of their first of two matches in week 3.

Match against RCB gave a chance to Rohit Sharma along with Evin Lewis to re-discover some form and set the target of 214 to RCB. RCB's top and middle order collapsed against the spin and pace attack of MI with only Kohli scoring huge to help RCB score 167.

Their match against Rajasthan Royals was a nightmare to MI as they ended up on losing side after being in a comfortable position thanks to RR's lower order batsman K Gowtham helped RR win by scoring 33 from 11 balls he faced.

Mumbai Indians continues to be at 7th in the points table with one win from 6 matches they played. The road to playoff's is becoming harder and harder for MI.

6. Rajasthan Royals:

Rajasthan Royals had 2 matches in week 3 winning one and losing the other one.

They ended on a losing side of their match against CSK as Shane Watson scored the century to help CSK win with huge margin of 64 runs.

Their second match against Mumbai Indians was dominated by K Gowtham's 11 ball 33 helping RR win the match.

Rajasthan Royals continues to be in the middle of the table at 5th position.

7. Royal Challengers Bangalore:

Royal Challengers Bangalore's batting and bowling vows continues as they won 1 and lost 1 in week 3 of this IPL.

They had a tough game against Mumbai Indians and lost because of their lackluster bowling.

They had it easy against table bottom team of Delhi Daredevils as they won the match thanks to the blitzkrieg knock from AB De Villiers.

RCB with that win again DD, moved to 6th position in the points table and need big wins to stay on competition.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Sunrisers Hyderabad had back to back losses against KXIP and CSK after starting the tournament with 3 consecutive wins. The losses are mainly due to their batting failure and David Warner's absence is clearly visible.

While the match against KXIP was lost by 15 runs, the match against CSK was lost by a margin of just 4 runs. So, both the matches lost were by small margins.

SRH slipped from being at the top of the table to currently at third position.

Teams have played atleast once against all the teams and knows by now how the home pitches are behaving and how the pitches in visiting places. They should by now have an estimate of who should be in the starting XI based on the performances so far.

I will be back by next week with another week's updates.

Keep reading and keep smiling :)

Good day to you all.

Which team are you cheering for?

I am from Bangalore, so Royal Challengers Bangalore is my favorite team although they are yet to win the trophy.

Every year, they purchase cricketers who have made some big mark, but, they still squander the opportunity and end up on losing side.

As a loyal fan, I have stick with them and hope the wait for first trophy by RCB will be over soon ;)

So great that you are a loyal fan. Maybe their win will be this year. It is always fun to watch the game and hope.

My mom's family are hockey fans and they all get together to watch the game and chat about the players and teams. It always seems like they have fun. This is the only reference I have regarding sports. We are not sports fans. Maybe it is due to not having access to the current games.

Well, I am still being loyal with RCB, but I don't see them reaching the final this time as well, as they need to win 6 of their remaining 7 matches including the one today against Mumbai Indians.

But, it's also interesting to know that, when they are in must win situations, most of the time they produced results. I hope that happens and RCB atleast reaches the play-offs.

I am also a big fan of hockey and it's our national game. :)

So if they are in a must win situation this time then hopefully they produce somegood results. I am now interested to see how they do. I am going to watch your posts to keep up to date.

I didn't know hockey is your national game. Wow that is so interesting. It must take a lot of power to keep the ice cool.

I am happy that I am building some curiosity to you about cricket game. :)

Well, as I write this, RCB won their game against Mumbai Indians and I am just hoping it's the beginning of those must win games for RCB and looking forward to have some fun filled wins for them.

Yes, Hockey has been our National Game and it was Hockey which fetched many medals to India in Olympics during the 1980's to 2000's.
Off late, our hockey team isn't doing that good. It's more of individual medals than team games which are fetching medals to India in major tournaments.

Cricket sounds like an interesting game. That is good that the RCB one the game. I will go read the highlights.

I really enjoy all the information that you share. Good there were many medals during the 1980's to 2000's. I am sure the hockey teams will improve. It is good for the team members to get individual medals at least it will keep moral up until they can get medals as a team again.

I am sure cricket is second only to football in popularity and now there are efforts to bring cricket to US, Middle East and other European countries where cricket is a lesser known sport.

RCB have definitely made a good start and we have a match with our neighbors Chennai Super kings in their home ground, hopefully we will pull it off to be in race for playoffs. Every game is like a do or die game for RCB.

Although our hockey team shows glimpse of expertise here and there, it's not like the one we use to have in 1980's. We need to have a better coach to train the team to be on superiority and on par with teams like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Spain to have chances of making it to finals of important tournaments like Olympics, Hockey World Cup and other international tournaments.

A lot of information here.. I see you're really into the cricket. Nice post - nice to know you from the upv4life curation trail - I also manage the @oneazania account.
