Steemit Should be Focusing on Making the Platform More Accessible Instead of Launching SMT's

I love the idea of Smart Media Tokens, but I think focusing on making the site more accessible should be the primary focus

Smart Media Tokens, set to be released in the next few months, are going to allow individuals to tokenize their website separate from Steemit utilizing the Steem blockchain. Projects such as OnStellar, an esoteric social media platform, are promising examples of what SMT's can accomplish.

Communities and teams are able to create their own token as a way to monetize their own website/platform while still utilizing the benefits of the Steem blockchain. Frankly, this could be a boon to the price of Steem and be a further advancement of the ideas that Steemit has realized.

But I think Steemit should be focused on optimizing the original platform instead

One of the biggest current issues with this site is that it is still fairly inaccessible to new people trying to utilize the platform. Navigating through the site can be wonky and difficult in comparison to other mainstream platforms.

Uploading a profile and banner picture can still be incredibly frustrating for some, and going through the various tags and finding relevant content is not easy to a person not familiar with the platform. Steemit should be focused on making the main platform easier to use and more accessible for people used to sites like facebook and reddit.

And let's be honest: it practically requires a tutorial video in order to explain the difference between Steem, Steem Power, and Steem Backed Dollars, which is why @kennyskitchen has done some wonderful work with his 2 Minute Steemit Tips video series.

While SMT's will surely help the platform immensely in the long run, I think the main focus should be on making the platform easier to use and accessible to a mass audience. It's hard to preach the value of Steem to my friends only to have them utterly confounded with the platform.

What are your thoughts on where Steemit should be prioritizing its attention?

You have my vote. I am amazed at the people that have managed to find original content on Steemit. In addition to a few well-curated tags, it can be super frustrating to navigate the interface. I wish Minds and Steemit would merge somehow. Each has good parts and Minds is just starting to integrate into the blockchain.

Whatever happens, I hope they listen to the feedback and start investing more back into Steemit!

I kind of agree with what you are saying.. the onboarding process can be tough on regular non-tech folks... and other social media platforms had many years to perfect their UI and Steemit has a way to go in order to compete.

Yep, if we want this platform to gain a significant reach it needs to have a better UI. Facebook excels at making their UI very easy to use, hence why it is popular with older, less tech-savvy individuals.

Can’t agree more dude👊🏽 I too took time to understand the difference between steem, steem dollar and SBD.

Now tokens? It’s getting to confusing for most people.
