Don't Look to an Outside Force to Save You

in #psychology6 years ago

A very common belief in our world is the idea that someone or something will fix all of our problems

Our world faces a multitude of problems which can be overwhelming for an individual to face. Economic injustice and frauds persist on a mass scale. An environmental crisis threatens to destroy the world as we know it, including our species. War, famine, disease, and scarcity of all kinds affect our world in unimaginable ways.

And what is the general response to all of these problems? Someone else will fix it!

If only we had the right people in power to institute the right policies to make us all responsible! God will step in and save humanity! Aliens are going to come down and provide the answer at the last minute!

Stop looking to others for the answer

I don't know about you, but my faith in institutions' ability to resolve our problems is about as low as you can get. Electing the right democrat or republican has never resulted in a sustainable solution for any issue.

Assuming there is an intelligent, creative force in the universe, I'm fairly certain that it isn't going to intervene and stop our self-inflicted destruction.

And as for aliens...well, whether they're real or not, I'm also positive that they're not going to save us either.

I'm certainly open to any of these forces helping humanity fix its problems, I just see zero evidence to support the idea that it's ever going to happen.

Individual responsibility is the only real solution

I've written at length about the power of personal responsibility and how it is the only force that we can count on to initiate any substantial change. We can't alter the course of the entire world just by changing our behavior, but we can influence our surroundings much more than we give ourselves credit for.

If we're tired of big financial institutions destroying our world, we can choose to divest ourselves from them.

If we want to solve the environmental crisis, we can look at ways to make an impact at a local and individual level. Only looking at the giant forest fire disempowers a person from taking care of the trees in front of them.

No one is coming to save us...and that's a good thing

Let's assume that some outside force is going to swoop in and magically solve our problems in an instant. Is this actually something we want? In my eyes...absolutely not!

Imagine how dependent we would all become on that force to resolve any and all problems in the future. Whether it's the government, god, or aliens, if something 'saves' us, we are essentially indebted and utterly reliant on that force to resolve our problems.

When we look to some outside force to provide the answer, we are at the mercy of this force in perpetuity. Our ability to empower ourselves shrinks any time someone else gives us the thing we need.

A simple scan of how the welfare state impacts a person's autonomy shows that we really don't want something to fix our problems other than ourselves.

As difficult as the issues we face are, let's remember that it is we who must find the answer. Any external solution will only create more problems in the long run.

i like your words... that no body is coming to save us & that's a good thing... because we all should have our own strength to face all the problem in our life. & you should be strong to overcome it by your own.

In my view, one should always deal with their own issues and find appropriate solutions to their problems. Problems will come in life no matter what happens and you should know how to handle them efficiently. Should always avoid outside source let it be anyone as it can worsen the situation even more. Thanks for sharing bud👊🏽👊🏽

I believe God can guide you out of your problems. He’s done it for me my whole life. The problem is for people who have little or no faith he’ll show very little presents.

People need to feel alone in order to make themselves realize their inner self. In Ender's Game a genius boy, Ender, is left with peers that were bothering him, intentionally by authority figures. The adults needed to see how he reacted when he thought nobody was coming. This experiment showed Ender becoming more powerful through the feeling he had been put under.

I enjoy the enlightening posts! Lets continue to share truth, or at least try to motivate people to search for their own truths.
