The Girls of Steemit - Bullshit Content or Not?

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

Steemit Girls Header.jpg

Are the girls of Steemit only uploading trash are do they bring value to Steemit? Let's find that out today.

I will take an honest look at 3 blogs of women on Steemit (I have not seen more women on Steemit with a real identity).

I also don't care if you are offended ladies. Let's go!

Seperator.png

The first blog that I will take a more in-depth look at is the one of Sharon French @Fitinfun.

Before I talk about her content I will tell you guys her stats. She is on Steemit since July 2017, has 1733 followers and 3688 posts & comments written. That is a good but not too good.

FitInFun Stats.jpg

As you can see she clearly resteems more than she posts. This is a great thing of her to do that but she must try to post at least 1 post on Steemit per day if she wants to succeed here.

About her content: She formats her content well and she uses a couple of pictures, mentions, and links in her posts. She also writes above 100 words average per post which is good. However, her posts could have more words and she should aim for 500-600 words per post.

About her comments: Sharon writes very long comments and formats those well. This is best practice and Sharon is a very good networker as she connects people with each other and recommends them as well

Conclusion

Sharon is doing good on Steemit for 4 months but she can do more. She could write a post per day and write more words per post. Like that she would climb the ranks very quickly.

The second blog I will take a look at is the one of Marianne @mariannewest

She is on Steemit since August 2017, she has 415 followers and she wrote 4015 posts and comments. Her follower count is not very high (my guess is that she is not using Steemfollower) but she has an outrageous amount of posts and comments which is very good.

Marianne.jpg

Take note everyone, this is what dedication looks like. A post and multiple resteems per day for almost 2 months. Add the outrageous amount of comments she wrote besides that and you can easily be busy for 3-4 hours per day on Steem. Very good.

About her posts: Marianne writes about 100 words per post and adds a lot of pictures just like Sharon does. She uses the markdown well and formats the posts nicely. However, just like Sharon, she could write more, 100 words scratches the spam borders for me. I can write 100 words in 1 minute so please ladies, more words, more effort.

About her comments: She puts effort into her comments and just like Sharon she is a great networker. She also connects many people with her freewrite challenges which are awesome to build the amount of words up you can easily write per day.

Conclusion

Marianne is doing exceptional for not even 3 months on Steem. She writes okay posts and exceptional comments every day and she is a good networker. If she adds more words to her posts and provides more value in the posts itself (freewriting does not provide value) then I predict nothing but success for her.

Seperator.png

The third blog I will a closer look at is the one of @goldendawne. I just call her Goldy. She is on Steemit since July 2017, she has 981 followers and wrote 2255 posts and comments. These stats are okay but not exceptional.

Goldy.jpg

She writes every damn day and resteems a fuckton as well. This takes dedication. Even if it is just 30 minutes to write a post. Doing that every day even if you don't want to equals dedication. She writes about her life and seems to have multiple interests.

About her posts: She adds a lot of pictures and around 100 words average. Just like the other 2 ladies she formats those well and uses a good amount of markdown.

About her comments: She as well is an exceptional networker. She makes sure to answer every comment and every reply she gets which makes her someone you can build a huge comment-chain with.

Conclusion

Goldy is doing well for her time here but not exceptional. She could write more words in her posts and then she would climb the ranks very quick. I know you can do that! ;)

Seperator.png

The ladies on Steemit seem to do good but they could do better. They actually have the same things in common which make sense. Women are very social beings and that reflects in their networking abilities. However, they also seem to have an addiction for choosing pictures instead of writing more text.

All girls have the same problems which can be solved by simply writing more words! 400-600 words are optimal ladies!

Wow! Thank for the awesome review. Very much appreciated. I recently started writing shorter posts since I was getting dinged for my 4000 word posts in the past. My friends told me to be more brief and it looks like I got there! Now it looks like I need to go back a bit in the other direction.

I resteem what I promote on my other platforms. If I upvote and resteem - I will also be promoting on fb, twitter and steemit chat among others. I resteem the posts so I don't loose track of them.

So if you are interested in curation rewards - upvoting the little guys on my feed is a good bet. They are pretty sure to be bigger by the time they pay out.

Again, I really appreciate the recognition. You made my day!

The golden middle is 300-600 words Sharon.

I will try to upvote good comments, but I have to reduce that because I upvote around 20 posts and comments per day which is too much.

I have to be more picky and I hate that. So I make sure that my best followers receive them. Here you go.

Yes, I am aiming for 350 -750 but not always succeeding. There will be less for the photo challenges if I can do it. I have a lot to say about everything and I am trying to be more quiet and listen more :)

Thanks for the upvote. I know how hard it is when you want to keep your power up!

You did just fine with your comments here unlike others. It is always good to have an open mind to learn from criticism instead of throwing tantrums.

I am taking your criticism in a positive light. ALL criticism can be useful, whether negative or positive; and I find all your words as advantageous to my success here. THANK YOU quadruple times over! Sometimes it takes someone on the outside looking in to show a person the way. And you have done that WELL!

I see what you are saying and thank you profusely for pointing it all out.

On another note: I am honored that you chose me, along side @Fitinfun and @mariannewest to consider your girls of steemit. These two ladies are great contributors, write solid content and have a great following.

Thank you again!

Glad to see that you took it so well Goldy! People nowadays have a hard time with criticism as they think they know it all. They certainly don't.

Even Plato said that he only knows one thing for sure -> which is nothing.

Without criticism we all would continue to make the same mistakes or lose all the value we put into our world/writing/lives.

I am a user of steemfollower and have been for about one month or more; can't really recall.
I used it a lot when I discovered it; perhaps time to revisit the website.

Definitely taking into deep consideration of the word count. I personally prefer bulleted points and key words with a quick explanation. Sometimes I feel people can drone on (yes, even with an article) and actually just keep repeating themselves. I know repetition is good for memory and drilling home the topic and main points, but still... maybe I'll give the longer posts a chance. You have to figure, what can it hurt, right?

I think that the word count is not an end-all. It needs to fit with your post and your purpose. the 300 to 600 word is a bit outdated. It used to be that Google wouldn't rank you if you have less than 300 words. Now, in the blogging world, the 1500 word count is looked at as the golden goose.
It depends so much on what you want to achieve and what your purpose on this platform is. If you are a poet who writes Haiku - the word count is going to be low and it would be annoying to fluff it up to get to the "magic" number.
There are people who want to read long articles - and other's who do not.
The key is to decide what your goals are and who your audience is or who you want it to be.
Or if your goal is to make $ as fast as you can. Then again, what is the long-term strategy? I think to grow a solid reputation and to build community is the key to long-term success. Look at Papa_Pepper.........

I am here for the long haul. If a post requires more text then I can adjust.
Money is not my primary goal. Having the platform, meeting new writers and bloggers, learning new tips around the homestead, etc. The monetary advantage comes close to dead last for me.

My rebuttal https://steemit.com/steemiteducation/@goldendawne/upvote-exchange-on-steem-follower-lacking-categories-and-time-to-boot-it-up-here

"Then again, what is the long-term strategy? I think to grow a solid reputation and to build community is the key to long-term success."

That is gold.

Oh, sweetie!! Thank you so much!! I think the same about you!!!

Hey, thanks for writing a post about us! so, what does this mean?

freewriting does not people value

I am assuming that you say that a freewrite does not bring value to people reading it? Which, of course, we can argue about - but I am not going to. Interesting that you say that my posts average about 100 words. I thought the word count is higher.
I am interested to know what you are using to average the count. Is there a tool on Steemit.
And what is Steemfollower?

It provides people with value, however, people are not on Steemit to freewrite for nothing.

There is no tool, I have opened 5 posts and saw the average.

Steemfollower is a tool to exchange followers and upvotes. High numbers give people the impression that you are wanted (which you and me are anyway due to our networking and writing abilities).

I'm supporting #freewrite and think it will grow. This is one tag that can attract authors as you will see by reading the comments on the posts. I have about 5000 active authors in my online circle and this is the first reason I have had to go after them in my 4 months here.

I think all that is needed is for @mariannewest to get some dolphin or whale support for her very cool initiative. I'm hoping it succeeds as we sure do need some content creators to get active at steemit.

There are SO many tags that are popular... too popular and trending EVERY DAY. I say give a new tag a try.
I have read some #freewrite posts and to me they are like #flashfiction... and we all know 50 Shades started as a flash fiction for the author. So more power to the short posts.

Freewrites are 200-300 words in my case, which is good length. I agree that she needs that support. She deserved to be a dolphin / whale for the effort she puts into Steem.

I agree.
I see people such as both the other ladies you mentioned here that work hard and get little result up the chain of fish/command".

I do not understand the entire complexity of the algorithms, cryptocurrency or how your status from red fish-minnow-dolphin-whale is accomplished or met, but then again, that is not the reason I joined steemit.

When this becomes a struggle for power, animosity among members gets out of hand or I don't look forward to writing, blogging, posting or commenting then I know the time will have come to see about a new venture. But I honestly don't see that happening.

If you don't offend people you don't need to be worried here on Steem Goldy.

I agree with what you write. I, however, won't change the venture as I have made my decisions.

Just continue to be a lady and you will have a good time here on Steem.

Oh, but maybe they are. Some people are here to share their photos only - no words at all - or their art. And that is just as valuable as an article with 1000 words. They just have a different audience. And it is up to each individual what they value and want to see. And that is the beauty of any platform. find your tribe.
Thanks for telling me what steemfollower is. I don't think I want to use that. In the end, I do think true community building is what I am looking for. Maybe it's a women thing? LOL

Women are more social than men are nowadays. You are doing a really great job at building something.

It's an interesting way of looking at it. Really indepth and postive reviews. It takes time to do these posts so I understand why you only did three. But I feel this can be an awesome series. Especially if you do your followers.
People get a little huffy over gender but I don't think you were being malicious with it.
I enjoyed reading it.
Question on word count. Different analysis and algothrim I know. What about users who use zappl (low word count) but make indepth and constructive comments below their posts?

Hi Swolesome! Thank you for commenting. It took longer than usual to finish this post that is for sure. I really was not being malicious, they are overreacting.

Not everyone uses zappl so when I see a small post I will still label it "low-quality" even when there is a long comment below it.

Yeah I should make a serious recommending my followers ;)

Steemit seems to be a system that women can thrive in if they put in more work.

interesting!

You can write better & longer comments than that, this is rude.

Recommendation: Write at least 3 lines, format those well and always reply to comments or replies to you, in that way you will build a large follower base.

rude. wow. now we in a prison system. hmm.

The people rule here, and if you write drive-by comments you will lose your reputation. Write @Ned if you don't like it.

I see you coined a phrase here - the "drive-by"
imagine that... hmmm

I am not sure what you mean Goldy.

hello @valorforfreedom :) thank You for writing up what i have been thinking...i came onto Steem with lots of great research, and i am not having much luck at all: while, these "fluff" posts are taking off. Alas, i was hoping to be taken seriously for the work i do on here, but i have much more readers on google,,,idgaf abt grammar in comments and suck at socializing with "airheads"... U should read some of my work https://steemit.com/history/@paigemoore/there-was-more-to-the-civil-war-than-slavery-part-1 ...i followed U, please follow me back :)

I love that you put some effort into your comment but I don't know you and you post your link here asking for follow for follow which is rude.

exactly...Ur bitching abt bad content and i show U good content... lol... UNFOLLOWED ...lol...

U have such an ugly soul...r U gay or do U wish Ura woman...or did Ur momma beat U...idc....Ur just UGLY inside and out ...i will mute U

Ok I think you need to take into account more than just 3 women on Steemit. Seriously, you could only find 3 genuine blogs? Then maybe you're not looking hard enough. I feel that I've added value to this platform, I don't post everyday, but I'm getting there and I believe my articles are long enough and relevant. Maybe not for a wide enough audience? There need to be more women on this platform. I would love to see more stay at home moms personally, and I think there is a place for them here.

What I don't understand is how some of the men can get away with writing only about cryptocurrencies everyday, and still be successful, but I'm just a woman, so what do I know? ;) <3

I knew some damn feminist would go full retard over this post.

If you want to read something sexist then take a look at one of my sexist masterpieces and cry there:

https://steemit.com/steem/@valorforfreedom/the-modern-woman-is-a-slave-of-her-smartphone-her-job-and-her-tinder-app

You're making average 0 to 2 dollars per post and you make a post on how good/ bad girls are doing on steemit? This is absurd.

Constructive criticism is welcome but don't call me nasty names. I'm no feminist. ;) I'm just a girl of Steemit trying her very best and feeling invisible sometimes and you say there are only 3 women of whom you could find real identities? I wish I could find more community here. Then I read your post and didn't even really take too much offense if it came off that way. You seem more offended at me getting mildly offended...It would be nice if more stay at home moms found value in this platform. In fact, I think that will be the inspiration for my next post. Something to the effect of, "Reasons why Steemit is perfect for homemakers." Maybe that sounds like a "shitty" post to you but other people might like it. :)

Haha.. Feminist is a nasty name? Do you not vote/have a job/ride a car? Damn haha

That's all well and good, and I'm grateful for those things but I reject modern day feminism.

Don't play the victim now.

Fix your behavior or mute.

Muted, I don't have to deal with children.

I read your previous article, and I think we have more in common than not. Sorry things went sour there, my comments were tongue in cheek, and I didn't mean to come off as a brat...but maybe you need to learn to take criticism too. Let's be friends! 🙂

Much love, @snowpea 🌸

I don't make friends with women. Despite that, I can handle pure constructive criticism just fine girl.

Anyway, I like your new tone. There is no need to mute you if you are being lovely like that.

If you need some help on Steem just let me know (but only if you stay lovely like you are now).

Have a nice day.

I don't really get why you are reviewing blogs about women only on this post? What's the next post gonna be about, review on asians and black people? Everyone can thrive on steemit and it's obvious. Hell, @stellabelle is a whale and she is a woman, @sweetsssj is a whale too. They are far more successful than you. Try again.

No, it will be about transgender afro nazi punk hedgehogs.

My wife might do very well on here, she can't open her mouth without 500 or 600 words coming out, but she will need to work on her typing skills.
On a serious note, very good to see that all three ladies accepted this post in a positive light, speaks volumes for their character.
Until next time,
@sultnpapper

thank you for your words @sultnpapper
I always take advice, criticism and words to heart. I am a person with an open mind and take it all in. If I can see a way to improve, then I will try it.

You are most welcome Mam, good character is easy to spot, I was just trying to point out that if anyone would have reason to be offended it would be one of the three of you ladies without using those exact words.. Character in a person is deep rooted, but very easy to spot because it is the essence of their being. Honestly, I was surprised that I didn't catch hell for the opening of my comment about my wife, which was tongue in cheek, but people were busy directing outrage in other directions.
Take care,
@sultnpapper

I agree Sult, they are doing pretty well, other people in the comments should take note. I really wonder why people are so offended by this post?

It was an honest review of how the ladies I know here perform. Guess people are being outraged at everything nowadays.

Did you somehow erase the outrage you are speaking off. I just see mild annoyance type of comments. But you sure got a lot of comments lol
