Understanding Resource Credits / Entendendo os Resource Credits (En / Pt-Br)

in #steem6 years ago

Heeeyho Readers! This time I wanted to share an important post, especially for new users on the Steemverse.

English

Dear readers, I'll cut the big introductions to go directly to the subject, because this is important, especially if you are starting out on the Steem blockchain and is facing problems with Resource Credits.

Being core member in one of the biggest communities on Steemit, the Travel Feed, and also moderator on Steemit Travellers Discord, I do see users complaining about having their accounts locked due to lack of Resource Credits. I'm not talking about fresh users, even some of the most active users are having problems to interact the way they wanted.

That being said, I believe that I do have a mission to give my best to help out, that's why I'm putting up this somawhat serious post.

How to handle Resource Credits problems?

A few weeks ago I participated in a show called Curation Corner hosted by @shadowspub and @artemisnorth on the Steemit Ramble Discord. You can check the recordings on the post below.

Curation Corner # 13 -- Recap -- Curation With #Travelfeed and RCs Impact on Newbies

From all the subjects we talked, the most important was the tests presented by the @welcomewagon team on the impact of the HF20 on newbies and what we, as a community, can do to help those who are failing to interact due to low Steem Power on their accounts.

I had the pleasure to meet these great souls and passionate Steemians @dreemsteem, @penderis and @bluefinstudios. All the information on this post was made possible thanks to them and their tests.

Understand Resource Credits in a Simple Way

The new Resource Credits replaced the old Bandwidth and is consumed every time you perform an action on the Steem Blockchain (Vote/Comment/Post/Transfer Money). It takes 5 days to recharge your Resource Credits from 0 - 100%. That means, if you spend 20% of your fully charged Resource Credits, the very next day it will be back up to 100%.

It is the same idea as managing Voting Power, only that when you drain your Resource Credits, you can't interact on the blockchain (Vote/Comment/Post/Transfer Money).

How to Manage RC

This is where things get tough if you have just started out on the Steem blockchain and doesn't have enough Steem Power. If that's the case you should be limiting your interaction to around that 80% number. Once you are able to power up sufficient Steem you won't notice those problems anymore.

How to Check your RC

Go to www.steemd.com/@username - and put YOUR username after the @...

On the left you can see a fresh account with 15 SP delegation from Steemit Inc., that's the account most of the new users will get once they start. This user has approximately 38 comments (which are posts also) until their 100% is drained. So should they use 38 comments/posts in one day? No, not unless they want to take their RC to zero. So, divide that number by 5 - in order to give you your ONE DAY approximate usage.

By doing that you'll discover that this new user can't really interact on the blockchain, because his numbers will go down to 7 comments/posts each day, which is nothing if you really want to build a following. Just remember, we are talking here in a case scenario of a user that is actively interacting each day; if you interact once a week you can use 38 comments, but your account will be locked due to low RC.

Based on my experience on the blockchain, if you want to grow you do have to be active every day making valuable comments on other people, posting everyday 1 or 2 times a day, you need to answear comments and eventually you'll need to edit something because of a misspelled word. It doesn't sound like a problem for large SP holders, but remember that you have 15 SP and only 7 comments to do. That is not enough!

From the tests done by @dreemsteem, @penderis and @bluefinstudios, you'll have to check your Resource Credits constantly, which is annoying and limiting if you want to grow.

You can check their tests on the post down below.

80% Why YOU need to know it!

What can you do to boost your RCs?

The only way to boost your RCs is to earn them or buy them, or to have someone delegate SP to your account. A delegation of SP will boost your voting mana and your resource credits.

My advise for the new users out there that can't buy Steem to power up, is to find the communities and be active on their Discord channels. We have a huge number of users on Steemit Travellers who are trying to support each other, including me. If you are legit enough we'll find a solution to your RC problem.

The same community sense is happening on the Brazilian community. If you are a Brazilian, pop on the Discord channel, introduce yourself, talk to us.

How much RC is enough?

From the tests done by the @welcomewagon team they presented their findings on how the new system impacts the ability of a new Steemian to function on the platform if they want to grow. Among the findings they had was an outline of the levels needed for a new Steemian to have a chance:

  • 15 SP — help needed or it’s going to be a long wait
  • 70 SP — can breathe and grow similar to how others have been able to
  • 100 SP — can comment enough to be effective
  • 200 SP — have hit a point to be able to effectively grow and to power up enough to move forward.

It's tough and we know it, but a solution can be implemented to remediate your problems until a proper solution comes out. Keep the positivism, find us on Discord, be friendly and together we'll find a solution.

I'd like to thank @dreemsteem for giving me permission to use her post as guide for this one. Also a big thanks to @penderis and @bluefinstudios for the tests so we can understand what is going on.

My shout out to @shadowspub for inviting me to the Curation Corner, where I had the opportunity to meet a lot of great souls.

Curation Corner # 13 -- Recap -- Curation With #Travelfeed and RCs Impact on Newbies

80% Why YOU need to know it!

oh my goodnesssss!!!!!! this was a fabulous post!!!!! Really and truly excellent - I don't think anyone will walk away from this and be confused!!!!

you did such an incredible job outlining it all!!! :)

I'm happy that we got to help ANOTHER community of newbie Steemians!
I'm only sorry that my upvote is so small - I have delegated all of my SP power to newbies so that they can grow :) so.... my vote is extremely small right now!!!

Wonderful job - I hope it helps many!!!! ;)

No worries @dreemsteem, more important than the payout here, is the post to be seen by people who need the info. The same way I didn't know about the real impact until you guys presented the numbers.

I think that if Steemit had it's own chat it would be easier and more intuitive than Discord, but... one step at a time.

A didática ficou show! Valeu!

Very informative post @mrprofessor and thanks for sharing this valuable information. This should be on the intro to every new user's account!

You already heard my mumblings in the travel feed discord and were very helpful since HF20 for me. Thankfully I realised to take back my delegations which instantly improved my RC situation once I got above 100SP. Hope others find it useful :)

Yeah, @nickhavey, I know the struggle because this problem also existed way back in December/January.

Glad we sorted your case, but if you go back into having problems just contact me.

Ah right, well let's hope it doesn't happen again and there can be better introduction videos for new users when an account is created.

Yes I now have more RC than I can shake a blockchain stick at 😀

nice work @mrprofessor .. great to see the information translated into another steem community

Hooraaay @shadowspub, let's just hope that it gets to the new people. We do our best on the brazilian community, but people just disappear =s

So after all RC is not abbreviation for Remote Controlled or Roman Catholic?
Not even for Radio Control??!!
Man i've been wrong for years...

:)

[i know it's a serious post, but i can't help it, i had to give my respect to all the RCs I knew before the HF20]

Not even Racing Coconuts, nor Raging Crocodile ! This world is indeed weird.

Ahhahaha thanks for the laugh

It sure does @shaman-ra, the community is what makes a great platform, if new users can't enter, it'll slowly fade away. But we won't let that happen.

Thanks for the comment
