The Joy Of The Lovely Of It All ~ Part III

More Images Of Driving Around In The Recent Snows

Our giant snowstorm has come and gone. And what fun I had, bombing around town all night long for several nights, photographing the snow. And now, we're STILL having fun looking at what came out of the back of the camera. And you're all invited to continue along for the ride. At least in a visually vicarious sort of way. Onward to more SnowPics.

The PLEASURE Of The Drive Continues

Heading out into the country. Early evening (11:12 PM), gotta get a start on this photo thing. I can turn right or left, and stay on a major highway full of snow, or go straight, and head out into the country. And the AIRPORT. Cool! Plus, even MORE snow. Hmmm...(I went straight).

I'm glad I payed attention during Driver's Ed, in that section on road sign shape and color. Since the signs were a bit hard to read in these wacky snows. Red, octagonal = STOP! What could this mean, otherwise? ..."Well, I guess I go this way to the All Way STORage place.

The local BigBox store is closed. But as Motel 6 always said, "we'll leave the light on". Gotta love good hospitality in the shopping realm. Notice the glazed look to the snow. Once the temperature dropped, there was a crust on everything. Wee haaa in the driving department. Time to head over to the BigBox parking lot and practice your nasty-weather driving techniques. When Johnny Law shows up, just tell them - "I was practicing my James Bond evasion techniques, Ociffer". THAT should make them happy.

More trouble getting out to go to work tomorrow. This car looks like someone's been running the heater for awhile, or a couple of randy teenagers are wrestling about in the back seat, sweating up the windows and melting the snows. I didn't look, but since it was cold, I'm voting that heater scenario. Though the other sounds like a lot more fun.

The snows just kept coming. I took a break in the parking lot of a local grocery store. Someone plowed it. They obviously take better care of the store areas than the roads. I guess commerce IS king. But then again, it allowed me easy access to bags of cookies and other necessary photo-fuel, so I could stay up all night driving all over the place taking pictures. So thank YOU, private snowplow companies, for your DO-diligence!

The Mongolian Grill Range. Ah, to be a kid once more...these would be great places to make forts and such. Then again, someone might run you over if they 'went awry' driving by. So nevermind.

I don't know what to say here, so won't say a thing.

If you leave your Chevy too long, it might get plowed in until the thaws. Sort of a modern, Shackleton of the S.S. Endurance of the shopping world thing. Stay alert when parking, or you might have to abandon your ride and set up camp in the local BigBox lot until spring. At least there's plenty of bagged cookie sustenance a short walk away to keep you in good spirits and at full-bellied happiness till April.

On The Wintry Road

A lone traveler, skitching on down the empty, snowy highway below the overpass in the middle of the night. This photo reminds me of my mid-age youth, driving to somewhere far afield in the bleak winter snows, bleary-eyed, a dark, abandoned highway stretching for miles into seem'ed eternity out front, with only a forlorn, far-off AM radio DJ to keep me company through the night. One of those loneliest of moments of life.

Author's Note:
Many photos are a bit grainy. They were shot with the highest ISO (3200) on my small Lumix camera, while hanging out the car window, during the storm. All photos were handheld, without a tripod. So, there is a bit of color shift and odd things going on, which I feel adds to the effect. Thankyouverymuch. -dds

Oh that is al fine business!> Say< I just knew you would know about Ernest Shackleton. Some of your snow photos remind me of the ones they took. It was amazing what they went through. I thought it was so cool to have the photos documenting both his and your adventure! Great post, my friend!

Can't imagine what they went through on the ice. Nice my photos remind you of theirs. I should post the photos together. Then again, theirs are probably not legal to use, as even though old, I'm sure SOMEONE owns them now. Stay tuned, there's more to come. Just had to give folks a break...( :

WOW! A new set of wonderful photos of snowy land at night! It’s a good decision that you went out in the late night. The city looked very peaceful indeed while most people were in bed.

I like all details in every photos… Great capture!

Um! I don’t know what to write more, so I’ll end my comment right now! ;D

Glad you enjoyed them. More to come, I'm just giving a break in the action, and writing today about Mr. PotatoHead ( :
It was very peaceful out there, I am sure you would really enjoy it. (Except the very cold part). And that is all I will say too. O :

Oh! That’ll be great! I look forward to seeing more photos of the Snowy Night soon…. Yeah! I would very much enjoy it if I go outside among the gorgeous snow with you, GFF!

Mr. PotatoHead is so cute! Unfortunately, your Schteinn Science is too complicated for me to understand…. Ha ha! That’s why I upvoted your post, but didn’t leave any comment….. ;D

I love the stop sign, too! But then, I love all of them. You night time wanderings were a grand success!

Thanks, glad you are enjoying the series. It was very gorgeous out there, I'm always in awe at snow and night lights. Used to walk around as a kid in a storm, just marveling at the quiet beauty. We never do grow up, thanks be. Have a nice night up yonder. Hope your weather has improved.

Ooooh!! The stop sign looks so cool!!! Like a popsicle! Add some flavor and ready to be eat! Ha!

We have a saying here: "never lick a freezing-cold stop sign, no matter HOW good it looks to eat. Your tongue will stick" My mother used to repeat that all winter long...

So.... no stop sign popsicle then? hehehe

Kids were always sticking to inanimate metal objects growing up in snow country. Christmas Story was not far off the mark, if you've ever seen that movie.

Oh, that movie is classic! A must watch!

One of my favourites.
