Curiosity #21 What happens when you quit Smoking?

in #science7 years ago

did you know "over 7000 chemicals are released each time you  light a cigarette."

Hey every one, welcome once again to my curious article series. Everybody knows smoking is the most preventable cause of death but what really happens when you stop smoking?

So,What Happens When you stop Smoking?

See , after you quit smoking many things happens at the same time ,so let me summarize it step by step.

After 20 Mins of quitting : Your blood pressure and heart rate return to normal because nicotine is washed away from your body in nearly 20 minutes. This also makes your hand and feets to feel colder but thats normal.

After 2 hours of quitting : Nicotine cravings begins causing moodiness, drowsiness, tense feelings and difficulty in sleeping.

8 hours after quitting : The inhaled carbon monoxide clears allowing oxygen levels to return to normal in the blood stream.

24 hours after quitting : surprisingly, coughing will increase which is the body's way of clearing out the toxins from the lungs. At this point the risk of developing various heart disease decreases.

48 hours after quitting: Nicotine and its metabolite are completely eliminated from your body. So the damaged nerve ending begin to regrow. The tongues gains is sensitivity back which makes the food taste better.

72 hours after quitting: The withdrawal symptoms are observed, with headache, nausea and cramps and emotional symptoms like anxiety and depression but after this period the worst is officially over.

1 month after quitting: The risk of developing type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer has already been decreased.

3-9 months : The damaged cilia in the lungs are fully repaired. As a result coughing and other symptoms are almost completely eliminated.

1 year : The risk of developing heart disease almost decreases by 50%.

10 Years :  The risk of developing lung cancer decreases by 50%.

15 years :  The risk of heart attack decreases the same as the person who has not smoked their entire life.

Unfortunately , there is always some irreversible damage to the lungs which makes it susceptible to the disease. But while quitting may be difficult, the benefits greatly out weigh the initial withdrawal symptoms.

Ultimately, the best way to prevent this from happening is to not begin smoking at all.
