Rakhi
Rakhi, in Indian culture, is a simple form of ritual protection centered around the tying of a thread on the wrist by one person to another. Although it's primarily done by sisters to brothers, it can also be by priests to patrons, etc.
Recently it was in the news for a wrong reason. A male student attempted to commit suicide by jumping off a building, after the teachers made his girlfriend tie a rakhi to his wrist. This simple act, to his mind, has altered his romantic relationship into a brother-sister equation with his girlfriend.
In other word, his relationship has been ended by the tying of the rakhi.
