Rumors And Mob Action
Four men have been killed in 4 separate mob attacks last week in the Indian state of Tripura. Reason? The attacks were fuelled by rumors that kidnappers were out on streets hunting for children to sell their organs.
One of the four who had been killed was Sukanta Chakraborty, an artist hired by the police to spread awareness to caution people against fake news; he was thrashed, stripped and clubbed until he died. The policeman who accompanied him didn't stop the mob attack.
Similar attacks have been reported in several other states including Assam, Manipur, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
