Right and Wrong: Religiously, Politically, Economically, and Socially.
In India's political conversations, if you hear the word "Emergency", the word meant that 21 month period from 1975 to 1977 when Indira Gandhi suspended elections and curbed civil liberties.
She had her political opponents thrown into prisons, the press censored, and conducted mass-sterilization. It's a dark chapter in modern Indian history.
Today, Prime Minister Modi's rulership gets compared to Indira Gandhi's Emergency. The two undeniably practiced a degree of heavy handedness. Both put the disenfrancized at the receiving end.
However, some people have possibly rightly pointed out that Indira Gandhi was simply a democrat that has gone astray, whereas Modi, instead of going astray, fits perfectly with something different altogether: the RSS's view of India.
India under Indira Gandhi
Under Indira Gandhi, the whole of India including Indira Gandhi herself felt a sense of something going terribly wrong.
India under Narendra Modi
Whereas under Modi, India is divided into Hindu and non-Hindu, such that one part of India felt Modi has hit the nail on the head while another felt Modi has got it all wrong. Religiously, politically, economically, and socially.
