Denial of reality — the ego defense mechanism
When someone denies the reality of a situation, they do so because the reality is simply too painful to bear. Denial is also a sure sign that the person is not about to change.
After an international survey has ranked India as the world's most dangerous country for women, two Indian entities have denied that the survey result is a reflection of reality.
The Thomson Reuters Foundation, after a survey of 548 experts on women’s issues, has ranked India as the world’s most dangerous country for women. In other words, India is more dangerous for women than war-torn Afghanistan and Syria. This is due to the higher risk of sexual violence in India.
National Commission for Women (NCW), of India, has rejected the survey report on Tuesday, 26 June, 2018, claiming that the sample size was small and not representative of the whole country.
Next, the Ministry of Women and Child Development dismissed the survey report on Wednesday, 27 June, 2018, as an “effort to malign the nation and draw attention away from real improvements seen in recent years”.
