Good luck with your blogging - and thanks for your comment, but this is not the legacy of Mandela. Far from it. If you were part of a resistnace to oppression you would know and fully appreciate that.
If you knew anything about the context of these terrible events you would not judge her statements during that time in our history. The movement against Apartheid was being accused of many things and yes, there are still people carrying out these horrible things. It is not and never will be right.
Her statements were in reaction to all that was happening - what she was saying was that by any means we will be free - her statements were inflamatory and she was dealt with harshly by the country but she was not directly responsible like the apartheid forces were of terrible atrocities. The brutality of apartheid bred this violence and it also bred our responses which were horribly wrong and are still far from efficient as a nation. We are a long way from a true humanism, more so today that ever.
If you wish to speak out about abuses, speak about all abuses. If you read my poetry, you will not find any celebration of herself, her statements, her party - nothing. She was an icon, not a saint. She was a human being who also made mistakes at times. Your image you show here is your choice, if this is the only way you can find to express yourself, go ahead. Do the same for all abuses all over by all parties, nation states, people. Or else, find a more constructive way to talk and find solutions.

Thank you my dear friend. I am sorry any confusion over the image of the late Nelson Mandela. The poem is in memory of him and other icons who are no longer with us; but specifically at this time when his former wife Winnie sadly passed away on Monday. I am glad to read your comment,

“Roots that creep closer......” Just how deep did those roots of anti-racism go I wonder? Mandela’s legacy will long be remembered and with well chosen words such as you have written here @trumanity true heroes will continue to be honoured with the deep respect they truly deserve .
I hope so my dear. Winnie's voice was the only 'Mandela' we heard until I was a young man, and then it went silent. She was villified and gently marginalised by the very organisation she led. Even now, I am appalled to hear too many speak of her human errors or seek to gain campaign points, even before we lay her to rest. I believe in those roots though. What they build on the surface is but sandbags.
