Our future is a mystery
Yet you really do this to me
Teetering on the edge
A tiny shove, and you'll be dead
Why the need to be numb, my love?
Why put it all at risk?
Why sell your soul for happiness?
A hedonistic wish?
You reel me in
Creating a display
Convincing all of your success
Maybe I have faith in you
Even though you are a mess
Was I strong enough to inspire change?
So it seemed.
Am I weak enough to stay?
We will see.
Our severed ties will crush you, dear
Do I give you a nudge?
Pull you out, push you near
Settle your self destruct?
The darkness is your friend
Unless you are with me
Cleaving away from insanity
You said you'd be ok…
Do I wait for you to improve?
Giving you chance to change?
As history tells you always do
You never stay the same
Indeed, tonight
I will decide
Will I kill you
Or let it ride?

Well, I posted it the day before Valentine's Day to be fair...just my way of expressing my frustrations. :) I wouldn't say I'm necessarily a traditionalist, and I don't like bashing people, but I'll take a look! Hmm, now you got me curious...

I recognize the poet who told a story in the best way, concealing yet telling all. :)
Just wanted to reiterate again, @snowpea, how strong your ending is for this poem; it's so great.
with how much this poem is built on an internal monologue of questioning and the process of seeking answers for the questions, I really appreciate the end being on a question. It does a great job of pulling everything together and giving the read a real fluidity that comes with purpose.
I think you are finding more and more purpose in how to express your emotions and tell your stories in your writing, and I'm excited to see where you continue to go from here.

Now I'm curious to know what the narrator did, in the end? Kill him? Or let it ride?
What the reader doesn't know is that the narrator has too soft a heart to kill him at this point. ;)
