The Chipmunks Day Poem - Original Illustrations

in #poetry6 years ago

Hello all, today I want to make a quick presentation of an old project I did in high school.

We were given a choice of a few poems and had to illustrate them or make a video, or something like that.

I love to draw, so I made the poem The Chipmunks Day by  Randall Jarrell into a childrens book. I have only ever shared this with my English class, so I am excited to share it with Steemit! To be clear, the words are not mine but the drawings are! So, what does a chipmunk do in a day?

(note: I messed this part up a little, it is meant to have the image below in between the top two lines, in Prezi mode I could insert that image into it, but here I have no way to accomplish that, so oh well haha. It is meant to read:

"To the feeder full of seeds he dashes,
stuffs his cheeks.
The chickadee and titmouse scold him,
down he streaks.")

I really do love these drawings, it was my first attempt at making a childrens book, and looking  back I sort of want to re do it in more detail. Plus, there is more to the poem as well. There are a few things I would like to update, mostly to correct the words but also to touch up the drawings and fill in some plot holes haha.

I wonder where the original artwork is anyways? I am not sure at all where that could be. Somewhere in the black hole of my closet and baskets of illustrations. I suppose I just gotta redo the whole thing haha, should be fun!

If you would like to get a full reading of this cute and joyful poem, here is a video you can watch of Brad Craft reading the whole poem The Chipmunks Day by Randall Jerrel;

Thank you for your time today friends! Sorry it is a quick post, I am getting ready for a terribly busy weekend and walked all the way down the snowy mountain today too! I will be posting about the film fest and about other stuff if I have the time haha.

Here are some bonus pics from our hike;

Yeah, this is how roads are plowed in Canada on a rural mountain.

Apparently, these guys want to get to work rock digging since they have a quary around these parts.

This was unusual, but not incredibly so. Unusual things happen a lot in my life!

I hope you enjoyed this cute poem, the drawings of a cute chipmonk, and the odd pictures from our hike! It is always my pleasure to share with you guys in the Steemverse <3

Good drawings :) the one where he stuffs his cheeks are the best!
which place in Canada is this?

Beautiful! It is a nice poem. It is complemented by your lovely illustrations! After 3 terrible Chipmunks movies, it is nice to read something that is chipmunk related and pleasant~!

This is awesome! Illustrated poems are a great idea!

Found you through #TeamGirlPowa and really enjoyed your illustrations. More than that, I enjoyed your hike photos. I had a flashback to a small adventure I had with a glacier on the side of a mountain in southern BC while visiting my parents in northeastern Washington State. My father was a geologist whose idea of a nice day off was to explore remote areas with often questionable roads. The closer we got to the glacier, the worse the road and the weather became. Long story short, we spent some very tense time trying to extricate our truck from a very remote muddy, slushy road gulch. This Georgia native never had so much fear and fun being "stuck". You are certainly more hardy than I. Thanks again for sharing a peek into your winter wonderland!

Hahaha if you look at some posts from 2 weeks ago you can see us chizel our truck out of ice lol. Took us all day. We get the truck stuck like 4 times a year at least, but that was the worst. My dad likes to drive until he is stuck lol, and our roads can be nasty though not as difficult as those further up the mountain.

It would be so neat to visit a glacier! It is on my to do list of adventures, our snow will hopefully melt soon. Also, I actualy likve in southern BC, in Kelowna okanagan area, have you been?

Also I am glad you are at team girl powa! Its an awesome place! Please do keep stopping by and chatting, its enjoyable!
