Japan is, as they say, the land of the gods. Two of the more popular ones, at least traditionally, were the goddesses of Spring and Autumn. Let's look at the latter of those two goddesses.

The Autumn Princess

Tatsutahime (竜田姫)—Princess Tatsuta—is the goddess of autumn in Japanese mythology. She is said to live in the mountains to the west of Nara on Tatsutayama—Mount Tatsuta. Tatsutayama is famous for its red maple leaves.

She is the goddess of dyeing and weaving. It is said she dyes the leaves beautiful colors in Autumn and then becomes a strong wind and blows all of them away.

A poem by Prince Kanemi:

Tatsutahime
must have offerings to make
to gods on her way:
so the autumn leaves
scatter like fragments of cloth

Catching Mother Nature

Another shot from the beautiful Kourankei valley. Mother Nature, or Tatsutahime, did her work well on this day I visited. Look at all those colors!

Nice color.

It was even better in person.

Man this picture is beautiful and it's awesome that you're sharing these photos for free!

If I can make Steemit a more permanent job for me I'd love to be able to spend a few months or a year in Japan. It looks like a beautiful place to visit.

Thanks 😃 Japan would love to have you. Hopefully all of us can make Steemit a more permanent job. I am in Japan, but I'd love more free time to explore more of it too.

How's your fever doing?! You're still on the Northern hemisphere, right? And it's still winter....
I presume you're still tucked up most of the time and pulled something out of the bottom drawer. Good for you, autumn leaves are always a hit.
Look who's talking: I'm listening to Bach's Mattheus Passion today! If we subtract your autumn from my spring I think we're back in winter.

haha we always end up in winter. I have many thousands of photos in my archive so whenever it's time to share I open the library up and pick what I want to share. Similar to my haiku translations. I like the let photos sit a little bit after I take them before I look at them again.

Oh! I love the idea of leaves being offerings, scattered along the path of the goddess as she goes. What a sweet post, and lovely colours. :)

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it :)
