The Power and Persuasion of Images: Pt 2- Street Art
Choose your Steemit images wisely. Pictures have the power to create profound physical and mental effects.
Images have been used extensively to market items subliminally. The correct image will captivate you or project upon you what it's maker wishes.
Advertising companies will show you happy people pouring bubbling soda into clinking, ice filled glasses. This helps the viewer believe Coca Cola will refresh your palate and bring you friends. Almost naked women alluringly wink at you over a frosty glass of Grey Goose Vodka. And those images of sad eyed puppies and kittens staring at you while Sarah McLachlan belts out a heartbreaking song gets you to open your checkbook for the ASPCA every time. The first commercial alone raised $30 million in its first two years on air.
Using the correct image in your blog post is just as important as publishing great content.
Governments and Superpowers papered their lands with propaganda posters before the age of television and internet. They used powerful and perverse images to persuade their people to support their cause.
In recent years Street Art has been gaining in popularity. The modern version of propaganda posters.
They say an image is worth a thousand words. True?
When choosing your photos, show the feeling you wish to convey to your reader.
We humans are hardwired to respond to images- the visual cortex is the largest system in the human brain. Reading is a skill we must be taught, but processing pictures is an ability each one of us is born with.
And the language of pictures is universal.

I love street art. My paintings are largely inspired by street art. I make stencil paintings on papers and wood panels.
Nice post, @arbitrarykitten. And true that. It helps to come across a post like this now and then to serve as a reminder to post only relevant visuals and not just decorate an article with random ones. Cheers!
I am happy to hear this :)

You are welcome ;)
Always been a big supporter of Banksy-esque artists. Those who make the statement quietly and with convoction. 👍🏼
There is a difference between graffiti and street art. I am a huge fan, also. Done right, it leaves a big impact :)
Advertisers really do know how to use these images to convey their message subliminally. We fall for it not even knowing that we have been "pulled in" to buy their message and/or point of view (propaganda)
We can't help but fall for it! They are masters at being robustly persuasive.
Love it. I always look for streetart when I travel. London has some of the best!
I agree with London- I have thought about this and I believe it might be because of the dreary days... The artists are indoors more and have time to think up creative art ;)
