My First "Newbie Stewards" Awards Have Been Issued

in #newbiestewards6 years ago

I have learned a lot about steemit in the short time I've been here. And other than the things I talk about every day regarding the #newbieresteemday initiative, I have one idea that stands out above all others in my mind. I think this idea is important because it will teach you what is important not only in steemit, but in life.

Stewards of Gondor - My Role Model

I will not attempt to get deep into the mind that made the #stewardsofgondor happen. Instead I will give you my simplified message based on what I have come to learn about their mission and their members. But first let me say that what @fulltimegeek did was amazing, he has groomed a first-class group of individuals that will follow through and carry out his intentions to make steemit a community that we can all be proud of.

To be a steward of gondor means that you must think about helping others if you want to help yourself. You must give in a way where you think the receiver will use that gift wisely, and then multiply it by passing the message on to others.

You must care about the steemit community, and about making it strong and grow. And you must be willing to help when you are able to because your strength is derived from the connections you have. It isn't the steem in your wallet or the power that you posses that's important, your value lies in the respect and loyalty you have engendered with others.

With that brief definition (my simplistic summation), I want to pay respect to their mission by following in their footsteps.

Newbie Stewards Are Born

I have been deeply involved over the last 40 days with an initiative started by @mudcat36 called #newbieresteemday. I have met some amazing and wonderful people during this process that are too many to list in this post. I am humbled and honored to call them my teammates and would say many are future steemit superstars. I'm amazed at how they offer to help others and expect nothing in return.

While I won't list the many favorites I have in this post, I do want to recognize 2 individuals that have stood out beyond compare. Not only have they given selflessly, they've gone above and beyond any expectations one would have.

I don't have much to give in delegation, because I myself am still young. I just crossed the 100 SP barrier myself, but I have learned that I can pay that forward by delegating that out. I have been fortunate to receive my own delegations of 780 SP from others (thanks @abh12345 @inquiringtimes @swelker101), so I want to do my part and help the people that I know will use it well to build our community even stronger.

In honor of the #stewardsofgondor and the #coolstewards award that was received by @newbieresteemday (thanks @coolguy123), I'm starting my own #newbiestewards award designation that can be used by any member to further our cause. We are a young and vibrant bunch of newbies and minnows ourselves, but some day we will grow up and help others to follow our mission of strengthening the experience for new entrants. I hope this will be the first of many #newbiestewards awards I can personally make, and I invite any other steemians to join me when it suits there needs and interests.

Newbie Steward #1a is @beeyou

If you have spent any time following what is happening with #newbieresteemday you will find that @beeyou is in the center of the action. She is like an angel that watches over us and sees everything that is going on. She has passion and drive and loves to see others do well, and she does so at her own expense. Her posts are few, but her heart is huge...

And she does all this as a wife and a mother of an infant, plus she works a full time job too.

She also spends her time helping to make this initiative the best that it can be by not only writing the "Weekly Buzz" (all 3 issues shown below), but by courting relationships with others and trying to expand our reach in the community (right @abh12345, @coolguy123, and @originalsimulant?).

On top of that she acts as a cheerleader, just one of many clips of her comments everyday:

We all love @beeyou and I'm proud to make her one of my first two Newbie Stewards! She deserves the 50 delegated SP from me and much much more! Thank you so much @beeyou for all that you are to us!

Newbie Steward #1b is @bashadow

Bashadow is the second recipient of my Newbie Stewards award for one main reason, he is everywhere... always doing his best to help the cause. He uses his voting power every day to vote up any post he can find where he is supporting the mission of #newbieresteemday. On top of this, which is generous enough, he also takes the time to create little messages to let people know that they are doing good and to tell them we are here to help them. For instance:

Also when he gets extra SBDs he has generously donated them to help us start things like the @newbiegames channel. He is so valuable to the mission that I don't dare give him a defined role. He is what I call a "floater" because he creates value on his own by doing what he does best, helping others! I can't imagine where we would be without him.

So I'm thrilled to honor @bashadow with my token 50 SP delegation. While he has more SP than me, the value that he creates with his efforts makes any donation to him a very good investment in the future for both #newbieresteemday and the steemit community as a whole. Thank you @bashadow for everything you do everyday on your own in ways that are unexpected!

2 Great Newbie Stewards

So these are the first 2 recipients, and I couldn't have had two better choices. I really hate to "not mention" so many other wonderful people (who I won't name to save space), but the decision was easier because I know that everyone knows what these two do for us everyday. There will be no doubting whether my choice was good, because all of us know how awesome these 2 #newbiestewards are!

Congratulatons @beeyou and @bashadow... I know you will carry on the spirit of what the #stewardsofgondor members have taught us! One day I know you both will be members of that great organization too, and maybe others will see the #newbiestewards as a pathway or stepping stone to such a prestigious achievement!

but by courting relationships with others and trying to expand our reach in the community (right @abh12345, @coolguy123, and @originalsimulant?).

Right!

We have many self-titled 'influencers' here on Steemit, but the @beeyou account, as well as yourself, currently stand out for me.

I'll soon need to clipboard some text along the lines of 'you guys are doing such a great job with your initivaves for the newer members of the community', and I hope this brings you all what you deserve going forward.

Great stuff!

I had a feeling you wouldn't mind vouching for that one Asher! :)

Yes @beeyou is amazing and certainly stands out, and we really appreciate everything you do as well...I know I've said thank you a lot, but its true how much you're a part of this too. Your delegation in the beginning was something that lit a fire, so neither @beeyou nor me will ever forget what an amazing thing that was! (and because I can comment a lot, then others won't forget it either) ;)

Also, I'm glad you got a clipboard to make it easier to keep repeating the same line, because I know I speak for @beeyou when I say that we intend to keep you proud of us all (the whole initiative). :D

Thank you both, you are too kind :)

I know how you feel with regards to delegation appearing in your account, the same happened to me late last year. It was a spark for me also, I thought i was doing good for the platform but had no 'influence' to back it up with.

Just 3 months later, I can offer out my own delegations and really feel I am a part of a positive change with the Stewards, the Curation leagues (2), and also being able to support the likes of you guys.

It's a great feeling i have right now, and I hope for a super year ahead for everyone involved!

You are definitely a part of a positive change on our part and we definitely feel your support. Its not about the delegation you gave either (that was awesome), but rather it is the fact you have paid attention. And while you've been traveling about, you have taken time to check in on us. This is very motivating when it comes from someone as busy as you.

As far as steemit is concerned anyone can look at your page last week and see the enthusiasm and excitement that your leagues have created. People are starving for tools such as this that gives them ways to improve their efforts. Everyone spends a lot of time and energy trying to succeed, and you with a simplified concept have given them something to hope for.

If we can ever give a testimonial or send a message of support to your efforts with the higher powers that be, please don't hesitate to ask. (I will get with @beeyou but have her write it, since her words are prettier than mine) :)

I am so glad you have a great feeling, I do too! This year is going to be fantastic!!!

I got a sponsor and i was told to ask you to why it was such and bright idea to post my contest under #newbieresteemday

But i almost figured out myself.

Will make my WEEKLY giveaway here.

Hope that it is fine and that i can contribute.

I actually loose money om them right now. Next round maybe break even. But what the heck. It's all fun and meeting some cool people along the ride. So it's all good and the Moon is not high enough

Hey @scandinaviaguide, yes you can always use our tags which will help us to see them and get you noticed by more people.

the first tag is #newbieresteemday and that is the main tag you can use for ALL posts always

the second tag is #newbiegames which you can use in addition if its a game or contest or challenge.

Does that make sense?

Ok yes it does. Thanks alot.

Will do. Making a new tomorrow.

Great work. Appriciate it!

ok cool... let me know if I can help you with anything... (try one of my newer links though becasue I almost missed this) ;)

ps... here is a good game to play where you can win just by playing to (up to 5 x)

Hi! Thanks for your support, @growingpower just upvoted your comment ;) Hope you have a great day

Got it and resteemed it for you in @newbieresteemday! Good job!!! I like the game :)

Thanks Asher. It means a lot coming from you.

Congrats to both @beeyou and @bashadow!
It's awesome to see people who care and want to foster the community aspect of Steemit and help out the new folks.

Nice job!

and to you as well @davemccoy :)

Thanks for recognizing @beeyou and @bashadow Doc... And of course I appreciate the pat on the back from you too!!! Thank you :)

And I also want to let everyone know that reads this comment that you are the original creator of the newbie nickel... The "Newbie Nickel, minted by @doctorcrypto 2018"

Haha cheers!

Thanks @doctorcrypto. The sentiment applies to all of us in the community.

In just a short period of time, I am happy for all the progress that you made here mate. I am also happy to see you contribute in community building. Just like when we first met, I want to ask you on how I would be able to help in the community you are involve with.

Thank you so much @asbonclz, I have tried to get to my other replies today so that I had a clear mind when I replied to this post. I want you to know that your words are very motivating to me and the others that are working with me. I remember when we talked at first and I want to respond to you first tonight.

You asked how you can help and I want to say "you are doing it". Every time you stop by and comment, it shows you are paying attention. In many ways, this is the thing that the newbies need the most, hope. Hope that someone with a 62 Reputation will stop and notice what they are doing. Of course the upvotes and resteems are nice, but the real thing that matters is the approval you give by taking the time out of your day to comment. That is a special thing that I think most of the veterans underappreciate.

In that vein I have recently started talking to a person @simplymike that is thinking about starting a "friends of #newbieresteemday" working group. She's a mid 50s level member and wants to work with more experienced steemians (50s and 60s) to support us in ways different than our day to day activities. She's very creative and I think it is a great idea to get an "angel group" set up. As with #newbieresteemday there is no committements, fees, or hidden obligations. It simply a way to connect people in ways that are more suited to their time, needs, and abilities.

So if you are interested in becoming the first introduction to her, please let me know and I will make that connection and we will see what happens next!

Thank you very very much for your stopping by and I very much appreciate anyone who say "I would like to help"! I hope to hear from you soon! :)

I am very interested with this initiative and I would love to get involved with this idea. Please message me in discord, I would love to talk this out there.

ok great.. I'm trying to connect now... do you have your 4 numbers after the pound sign?

mine is davemccoy#2479 if you want to add me first

I will contact you as soon as I get home :)

Cool concept! I’ve aleays wanted to be a part of stewards and @fulltimegeek has been a blessing for my voice as well! I’m working hard to reshape awareness for Steemit ui! Great post! Upvoted

Thank you very much @theuxyeti! I also appreciate all the mentions you give us all the time! Sometimes I get inundated and don't get to thank you, but I see a lot of them and you are definitely helping to spread our message! I agree that the #stewardsofgondor are a great group of people, I haven't met one yet that has disappointed me in any way. You fit right in and I'm glad that you are making steemit a better place for all!

Thank you so much for coming by, it is always great to connect with you.... ps... I don't know if I've ever told you, but I love the logo and the name! Very rememberable :)

Congratulations @davemccoy for joining the league of delegators with these 2 delegations for 2 of the most deserving members of #newbieresteemday.

As @abh12345 said in his comment, @beeyou stands out with her influential comments which has helped to bring more support to the #newbieresteemday and also encouraged others like you to go that extra mile in reaching someone like @abh12345 and @goldendawne and other people who can help with something to encourage the newbies.

@bashadow is another deserving #newbiestewards who I have seen actively commenting and taking part in the initiatives of #newbieresteemday and now he is also among the toppers in Asher's Curation Leagues which shows that he is contributing through his messages and helping others.

These 2 guys will now don't have to worry about bandwidth issue and can concentrate more on what they are doing, helping others with their advice, their rewards on posts.

Thanks once again @coolguy123! I was shown the way be a cool guy that told me the other day how to do it ;)... Its nice having someone like you guiding someone like me. I don't know the rules, but filled with energy and passion to get things done. Without you giving me the gentle guidance, I'm not sure I would end up sidetracked in a ditch somewhere. But with your guidance, once again you led me to the right place to be. So I accept your congratulations to joining the league of delegators, and I give you the credit in my acceptance speech :D ...

And I also want to thank you and Asher for the attention you pay to the efforts of us all.. It has not only brightened the hopes of us all, but it has also led many to strive for the #stewardsofgondor model! To me that is a win win and I'm grateful to be in the mix!

I am humbled by those words Dave, my role in that act is very small one, it's your interest to help newbies led me to suggest that curation league creation and as people are exploring about that and appreciating that, it's something which is done for a good cause and as we can see, it's paying rewards to many newbies.
If I would have alone voted on the posts having #newbieresteemday tag, the author would have got a 0.02 or 0.03 worth vote(Of-course, others would have voted), but with this curation trail, the combined vote is more than 10 times of my vote value and that has to be something exciting, right?

Now @abh12345 has given positive signal and his one line of comment on that trail will bring more people to the trail than what me and you have done because of the follower base he has.

So, I feel, all such small small acts will lead us to a bigger reward for the newbies if we maintain the trail for the main cause we created that for.

Once again kudos to all the team members for making it this big.

I agree on your point about the value of the curation trail as it comes to helping the newbies... A 0.02 or 0.03 vote is good, but when it gets into double digits they definitely notice... It is the single biggest (one thing) that we have done to grow our base. After we got that account set up, I have seen tons of new people using our hashtag and trying to vie for that "top 10" post of the day.

As far as Asher (I hate to tag too much)... I agree when he thinks its appropriate he can do many awesome things. As for keeping the purpose of that account solely for its intended purpose, I completely agree with you. I think it important for not only the newbies that get that excitement, but also for the ones that use their trailed vote to make that impact. We are in complete agreement and again I love your guidance!

And while I'm excited at how well we've done as a group (you and Asher included), I still look at the future and see that we have many more things to do. Its an exciting time and I truly love every day spent here!

ps... lots of stuff on the drawing board too... I like to button up the things we've started before we get spread too thin... but there are at least 5 new projects on the drawing board and I am in the process of team building as you are witnessing. ;) (thanks again for everything @coolguy123) and I think I've caught up since I always reply to you last (to save me from doubling up...lol :D

Those are very kind words @coolguy123. It was a team effort that brought us where we are now. All accomplishments we’ve achieved so far is with the support of you and Asher, our partners and our ever-so-wonderful members. Everyone has contributed so much and came together to build our community into a great one. I’m honored to receive the SP delegation from Dave. Now I have to make sure my online time is put to good use since I won’t be restricted with bandwidth issues.

Team efforts always yields good results than an individual performance and this is the evidence for that.

I’m honored to receive the SP delegation from Dave. Now I have to make sure my online time is put to good use since I won’t be restricted with bandwidth issues

Yes, Dave has made you to be even more responsible with the delegation and I am sure you will feel even more satisfied than before when you utilize that delegation in a better way and receive appreciations for that.

Congrats to @beeyou and @bashadow. Both well deserved.

@davemccoy - there seems to be a lot of talk of delegation these days but I still don't really get it. How will 50SP help the newbiestewards do more?

Hi @gillianpearce. Dave will chime in of course, but I'll be happy to share what Dave's SP delegation does for me as a newbie,

We newbies have a small amount of bandwidth allocation. Bandwidth is tied to the amount of SP each person holds. As a newbie, it is very hard to earn SP on their own. It is possible, but a gradual journey.

For newbies, once we use up our daily bandwidth allotment from parent Steemit, we basically have to wait on the sidelines for the bandwidth to 'refill' before we can comment, upvote, or post again. I have no problem doing my activities in the evening. In the morning though, I don't even bother coming on to Steemit. I have no bandwidth. Even when I haven't been active since the night before, the morning congestion on Steemit limits the bandwidth for everyone involved.

Dave's delegation enables me to come on in the morning and contribute my talent to this community (j/k).

Additionally, I believe the extra SP will increase my curation rewards. You earn more in curation rewards the more SP you have.

So it's a win/win for our newbies (myself included).

Thanks for the explanation of the difference it makes to you @beeyou. I've had bandwidth issues a few times but I think that was when there was a general shortage on the platform as a whole because lots of people were experiencing the same.

I'm just stating my third month and have been commenting and posting regularly so I'm beginning to see an increase in my SP although, to be honest it doesn't make much difference to the value of my votes since I ge a bit carried away. My VP was down to 30% recently so I'm trying to build it again but resisting the temptation to vote isn't easy!

I hope the delegation continues to makes a big difference to you. 😊

emoji LOL.jpg
@gillianpearce I totally relate to the will power it takes to not vote on content you find that you connect with. Probably comes from using that Facebook like button so much over the past few years. (So glad I found another social network platform!)
I'm currently trying to build back my vote power, or would have simply upvoted your comment instead of commenting on your comment...

Emoji Source

Ha, ha, ha. I know what you mean. I think you're right about our old FB habits. No probs with no upvoting. That means I'm more comfortable not upvoting you too as I'm desperately trying to rebuild my VP. And to be honest, I think meaningful comments are of more value anyway. Especially in these early days! 😊

I agree completely with you... Upvotes are a crutch and the real connections are made in the comment section! Here's a newbie nickel for you too Gillian for making that point!!!

Thank you kid sir! 😁

Love your name ;) is it wisar dave or wisard ave ? lol

And yes I completely agree with the voting power... Its a blessing in disguise though because commenting can earn you money where upvoting rarely ever does... So here is a newbie nickel to show you the power of the since awesome comment intended to helping others! :)

thanks for the info.
I have made 1 penny from the upvote! woohoo

I am wizard dave. :D
... I was Marco the Magnificent in Carnival, so amateur magician...
I am a pinball wizard...
The dragons and stuff kind of wizard? I'm not at liberty to say... haha

Thanks. It probably won’t impact my curation rewards if I continue hovering around a 40 VP. I’m trying so hard to get it back up. Grrr. I can relate to @wizardave; it’s that FB mentality.

I’m usually not able to get on at all in the mornings/afternoon but because of Dave’s delegation, I was able to get on today and catch up with my replies. I was 2 days behind 😬.

Glad you got caught up with your replies. 😊

My VP was hovering around 30 for a couple of weeks so I've been working to get it back up. It's a slow process as I'm still upvoting. Don't seem to be able to go cold turkey! 😊 But this morning I'm back over 50%

I don't think, in the big scheme of things it really matters, right now but psychologically it's hard to feel comfortable with it being really low. Not logical but it is what it is. 😁

I’m with you there with the upvotes (around 50 myself). I’m going try to refrain from upvoting so I can try to build it back up. Even though our penny or two doesn’t seem much in the scheme of things, we should still try to keep our VP around 80-90. That way we can earn a tiny bit more on curation rewards and build up SP so our upvotes will have a little more punch to the authors we love.

I will be sure to stop by your art journal later when my VP is up. That’s really cool!

Thanks @beeyou. I hope you enjoy my blog. I'm quite proud of it to be honest! 😍

emoji thumbs up.jpg

@beeyou Thanks for explaining that. I've been experiencing the bandwidth problem and wasn't really sure what was causing it.

  • Now, I have hope! I see light at the end of the tunnel.
    • Thankfully, it's just a temporary situation until I build up my SP.

Emoji Source

It is and it is usually better on the weekends too! Love your emojis! very good :)

You’re welcome. Good luck on building up your VP! I need to do the same.

Hey @gillianpearce, I'm glad you asked. That is a great question... And @beeyou gives you a great answer how it affected her. But I also want to add this:

There are 2 major points we go through as young steemians on the platform, 1) is the lack of connectivity due to bandwidth concerns and 2) is the use of the slider to give us more control of our votes.

If the delegation can help with one those 2 things, then it is VERY helpful. I would encourage others to consider the impact because it is a really big deal to the newer users to cross these thresholds.

Otherwise I would agree completely with you, if you are only looking at the utility of 50PS. 50 SP added to just give your votes an extra penny or so will be good but will not be that thrilling.

However, if you consider the fact that the #newbiestewards program is more of a template or roadmap to teach others how to be successful here. By learning how to "give" and being selfless, it may encourage others to do the same down the road. So the value of the gift isn't the 50 SPs being delegated, the value that is important is the message that get learned. One day that 50 SPs might be 500 or 5000... The same line of logic will apply at that point.

I hope this helps to explain why I decided to do so. If you have any more questions, please let me know!!!

Thanks @davemccoy. I was really checking my understanding about delegation and vote power so it sounds like I've got that bit right. Thanks for clarifying.

Your motives are never in question as far as I'm concerned but an explanation of your thinking behind why you've chosen to do something is always interesting.

Just seeing people get the extra SP is a boost to me, knowing that they will go on and use it well.

Thanks, as always, for all you do here. 💙

Thank you too Gillian! I always like having communication with you as you are always pleasant :) ... I hope you have a fantastic rest of your week!!!

Congrats @beeyou and @bashadow !! I couldn't think of two more worthy newbie stewards :-D you guys are amazing, committed and just plain kind people! You both do a TON of work around here! So much love and respect to both of you, as well as to @davemccoy and @mudcat36 for creating this community. I'm so proud to be a part of the tribe !

We just thought of the idea @amariespeaks, its you and your fellow teammates that made it a good tribe! I'm just happy to be associated with you and all the wonderful others. together we are pretty damn amazing! And I can't wait for what the next step for us brings... Every day is an adventure!

Thanks for all you do too, you weren't mentioned in the article but I hope you know that you are in my mind!!! :)

I know! Don't worry :-D I'm more than happy to see these two get some recognition they both put a lot of heart as well as time in and they deserve it! we are a pretty damn good team!!

Thanks @amariespeaks. You do a ton of work yourself! I really don’t know how you manage to write your own posts along with the initative ones. I’m kaput after one or another. I too am proud of this community we’re building.

@beeyou it is my plight as a writer... LOL I write when I should be doing other things.. and I'm lucky enough to only be working a part time real-world job so I have a lot of personal time ;-)

Yay! They're so lucky. You contributes a lot in this platform. May god bless you more @davemccoy. Cheers! :)

Thank you very much @neihy05... that is such a nice thing to stop by and say!!! And I hope God blesses us both the same (a lot) :)

Cheers to you and here's a newbie nickel just because that was really nice ;)

Great progressive initiative @davemccoy. Congratulations @beeyou and @bashadow, definitely deserving of this award.

Thank you very much Leigh!!! That is nice of you to congratulate them and let me know you like the project! One day I think many will be able to benefit from this program as both the givers and the receivers :)

Hello Dave how are You? Yes You learn a lot and you grow a lot, from the month of december when we first talk i knew You will do good job. I have a request to You can You share my post on resteemable the last one thank you
