Who Is The Best Spider-Man?

in #movies7 years ago

Hi movie marauders! There have been 3 major Spider-Mans over the past 15 years. First, Tobey Maguire in 2002, then Andrew Garfield in 2012, and now Tom Holland in 2017 (We first saw him in 2016 in Captain America: Civil War). There have been many debates over who has the best performance. Not everyone is going to agree, but this article is just my opinion. Spider-Man is an amazing superhero, who was created by Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Tom DeFalco, and Ron Frenz. Everyone loves him, and his amazing universe of villains (such as Venom/Carnage/Green Goblin). Let's take a look at which actor played Spider-Man the best!!

~Tobey Maguire~

Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004), Spider-Man 3 (2007)

Tobey Maguire was 27 years old in the first Spider-Man movie. I grew up with Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, and I think he did a good job in the films. Even though the dance in Spider-Man 3 was just terrible and uncomfortable to watch, that was not Maguire's fault. I really liked Peter Parker's relationship with Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2. I thought Maguire did a great job showing how Doc Ock was Parker's mentor, and how conflicted Peter was. I also really liked how nerdy Peter was.

Maguire was the first serious role of Spider-Man that actually had a good plot. Maguire really showed how Peter has to always choose between his friends and saving others from bad guys. Tobey Maguire was very old to play the role of Spider-Man. Also, Spider-Man is supposed to be a little funny (which Maguire didn't really show). It got a little old when Peter was always chasing after Mary Jane (even when she was dating his best friend Harry). Maguire did a good job of showing how in love with MJ Peter is, and how he was never brave enough to ask her out.

I didn't like how Maguire's Spider-Man seemed too mature and not very badass. I don't like how he was portrayed as fearful and serious. I think Spider-Man should be fun and friendly and someone who has some comedy. I also don't like how this Spider-Man has webbing as one of his powers. In the comics (and the other Spider-Man films) Peter designs his webbing. Maguire didn't indicate that he was super smart (except when he designed his suit). Overall, these Spider-Man films were pretty good. I just think that Maguire was missing certain aspects of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man: 6.5/10

~Andrew Garfield~

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Andrew Garfield did a great job of playing Spider-Man. He showed how smart Peter is and how funny Spider-Man is. Garfield's stutter could get annoying, but I think he showed a Peter that was a little closer to the comics. Garfield was 29 when he played Spider-Man in 2012. Again, this is too old to be playing a high school student. Garfield's Spider-Man developed his own webbing and suit. He also solved the formula to regrow Dr. Connors' arm.

I really liked the relationship Garfield depicted between Dr. Connors and Peter. Once again, Peter is conflicted by his mentor/the monster he has become. This version of Peter was able to ask out a new love interest, Gwen Stacey. I thought that their relationship was very cute. It was sad that Peter promised Gwen's father to not date her, especially when Gwen needed Peter the most. I liked Garfield's jokes when he was catching criminals, and this film also showed him taking pictures of Spider-Man.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a terrible movie as a whole. There were a lot of things wrong with that movie. I still think Garfield was too mature for the role. Peter is supposed to be in high school, still figuring out his life. I really liked seeing Spider-Man battle the Lizard. It was much different than the Green Goblin, which I really didn't want to see again in The Amazing Spider-Man. Overall, Garfield's performance showed a more fun side of Spider-Man, but still isn't exactly what I think the best Spider-Man is.

Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man: 7/10

~Tom Holland~

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Tom Holland was around 19-20 years old (Peter is supposed to be 15 years old) when he filmed Spider-Man: Homecoming. Tom Holland's Spider-Man is motivated to join the Avengers, which is something we have never seen. Holland did a great job of playing a teen in high school. The video that Peter filmed was so funny and seemed like an authentic reaction for a teenage guy. This Spider-Man was not very serious and honestly not very mature. He was not too scared to ask out Liz to Homecoming. Also, this Spider-Man created his own webbing (and his own not very high tech suit).

I really liked Holland as Spider-Man because he depicted the right age, and he is very similar to the Spider-Man in the comics. He is nerdy and just wants everyone in his city to be safe. Holland really showed just how much of a kid Spider-Man truly is. This film did not show anything with J. Jonah Jameson, but it could be coming in the next 2 Spider-Man: Homecoming movies. I wish we saw more of how Peter is very smart (like in The Amazing Spider-Man).

Holland showed again how conflicted Peter is (since he chased a bad guy instead of going to Decathlon and Homecoming). Holland even used a high pitched voice to show how young Peter is. Holland showed how much Peter grew throughout Spider-Man: Homecoming. I thought Holland did a very great job playing Spider-Man, and I think that he definitely fits the role.

Tom Holland as Spider-Man: 9.5/10

~Conclusion~

Tom Holland IS the Best Spider-Man

Tom Holland really depicts how young Peter is, and how everything is so cool to him. I liked how Peter is motivated by becoming an Avenger, and how Holland shows that Peter is not serious and mature.
