Weekend Box Office Update: Who's Number One?

in #movies7 years ago

Hey movie marauders! Let's take a look at this weekend's (July 14-16) 7 highest grossing movies!! [Click on the blue links to watch the trailer for each movie!!]

7. Wish Upon-$5.6 Million

Wish Upon was released July 14, and got a 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is a horror film, and is about a girl who gets a music box from her grandfather that will grant her 7 wishes. She makes wishes that improve her life, but come with the cost of killing people she cares about in terrible ways (she is seduced by the darkness of the music box). This film definitely sounds scary, so if you don't like to be scared I definitely don't recommend this movie. This film is rated PG-13, and stars Joey King, Shannon Purser, and Ryan Phillippe.

6. Wonder Woman-$6.9 Million

Wonder Woman was released on June 2, but is still in the Top 10 of the Box Office! There is no surprise that this movie is still doing so well. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend buying a ticket. You don't have to know any comic book stuff or even what Wonder Woman is all about. The movie explains everything clearly, is funny, has great action, and amazing performances. This film is rated PG-13, and got a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. It stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, and Robin Wright.

5. The Big Sick-$7.6 Million

The Big Sick was released June 23, and is rated R. The Big Sick is a Romantic Comedy, and got a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. A lot of people have been raving about this movie. I haven't seen it, but I heard that it was really good. The Big Sick is about the love story of Kumail Nanjiani (playing himself)and his real life wife Emily V. Gordon (played by Zoe Kazan). The screenplay was written by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon. This film stars Holly Hunter, Kumail Nanjiani, and Zoe Kazan.

4. Baby Driver-$8.8 Million

Baby Driver was released June 28, and is rated R. I've heard great things about this film, and I really want to see it. This film is a crime movie and a thriller. It got a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, and was directed by Edgar Wright (director of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World/Shaun Of The Dead). This movie stars Ansel Elegort, Lily James, and Jamie Foxx.

3. Despicable Me 3-$18.9 Million

Despicable Me 3 was released June 30, and got a 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. This film is the 3rd in the Despicable Me trilogy. The spin-off, Minions is (sadly) getting a sequel in 2020. Despicable Me 3 has Steve Carell playing both Gru and Dru (his twin brother). I have not seen this movie, and I am just going to wait to watch it (I'm not very anxious to see it). If you loved the other 2 Despicable Me movies, I'm sure you will like Despicable Me 3 as well.

2. Spider-Man: Homecoming-$45.2 Million

Spider-Man: Homecoming was released July 7, and got a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. I loved this film, and I think Tom Holland is the Spider-Man we have been waiting for. I really liked Vulture as the villain, and the twist in the movie. The post credits scene were very funny (there are 2), and I am so happy that Spider-Man is a part of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). We will see Spidey again in Avengers: Infinity War, and he has been confirmed 2 more of his own movies.

1. War For The Planet Of The Apes-$56.5 Million

War For The Planet Of The Apes was released July 14, and is rated PG-13. It got a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it must be good if it beat out Spider-Man: Homecoming!! Everyone loves these films, and I want to watch them again because I don't really remember them. War For The Planet Of The Apes stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, and Judy Greer.
